Trigger Points Anthology: Abuse Survivors Experiences of Parenting

Rate this book
Trigger Points Anthology is a collection of writing by parents who are survivors of childhood abuse;a book where survivors of all forms of childhood abuse could talk about what it is like to be a parent when your own childhood was so traumatic. Parenting when you experienced childhood abuse often feels like walking back into a war zone as a soldier with PTSD. There are flashbacks and triggers everywhere, and most parents are completely blindsided by them because no one tells us that this can happen.

My review was so long, I had to blog it on my personal space. No spoilers. The best way to begging healing from abuse is to know that you are not alone. this book will do just that. http://motherlessmoments.com/?p=2814

This book should be mandatory reading for any parent survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I can't even imagine the type of bravery it takes to write about something this traumatic. My admiration and respect for all the creators, editors, and authors of this book is infinite. What I find most impressive - aside from the raw, honest writing - is how the editors chose to include journal prompts and several different types of resources for readers. This is a workbook, really. Incredibly well-written and thoughtfully arranged. I did not experience CSA, but I can imagine that if I did, reading this would bring a dire need for a sense of "I'm not alone" and solidarity, and It would be a game changer for my life as a parent. I also appreciated the author bios after each essay. It's helpful to know a little about the authors and their backgrounds.

I was given a copy of this anthology in exchange for an honest review. I'm honored to have done so. Bravo to the editors and contributors. Trigger Points is an absolutely beautiful, brave, cathartic book you should all be immensely proud of. This will help countless people. That's incredible.

This is a really important book for survivors of childhood trauma and abuse and those who work with them. I read this as part of my healing journey and it is so hopeful to know I am not alone in the types of triggers I experience as a parent. It helps me to normalize the behaviors and thoughts that make me feel trapped and stuck. As I read it, however, I discovered how it relates to my work as a doula and parent educator. The parents in this book describe how breastfeeding can be triggering but so can the birth of a baby. I recommend this to anyone who has read Penny Simkin's When Survivors Give Birth but most especially, I recommend this book to parents who experienced trauma and abuse in their childhood.
