A thousand years ago, on the world of Claire-Agon, a war raged between men and dragons.
After an expedition of elite warriors kills an ancient nemesis, Seth the Sword Slayer, one of Agon's most feared assassins, finds himself in the middle of a mysterious string of killings targeting the members of his elite group.
As the Kesh wizards call a conclave of Agon's most powerful realms to Balax, the capital of Balaria, Seth attempts to set a trap and kill the rouge assassin in his homeland with the help of the governor's troops, the thieves' guild and his own assassin's order. Seth must not only save his city from a new threat of destruction, but also navigate the politically deadly waters of high intrigue from the gathered realms.
Seth soon discovers that, in the world of Claire-Agon, when dealing with a Blue Dragon, sometimes appearances can be deceiving.

Author's Note:
If you've read this far, I just want to say thank you for looking at my book and a special thanks to those of you who have purchased it. It is most gratifying and humbling to have you spend your valuable time looking at my work, and it's my sincerest hope that it brings some entertainment, and perhaps a nice unexpected twist, to your reading pleasure.
The Dragon Book Series consists of five books each highlighting one of the five chromatic dragons found in the world of Claire-Agon. Each book can be read independently of each other and in no particular order however, they take place during the same time frame and involve many of the same characters and locations of the Claire-Agon world.
Does a world filled with mighty wizards, dangerous dragons, brutal barbarians and dangerous assassins send your heart racing with excitement? If so, this book could be a nice little addition to your fantasy book collection.
The world of Claire-Agon was once home to a great war between the mighty dragons and the brave men who fought them. Many years later, dragons have become a myth or a legend to the general public but plenty still know about the dragons of old. When a dragon is sighted, governments across Claire-Agon rush to the scene as a legend is about to be reborn and they send an expedition of elite warriors to slay the mighty beast. The expedition was a grand success but as representations of all the governments ruling the lands of Claire-Agon come together, the legendary warriors that came back from the expedition start dropping like flies and it is now up to Seth the Sword Slayer, one of Agon's most feared assassins, to find out the truth and put a stop to the killings. On his quest to find the killer, he must slither through the deadly swamp of political drama, battle enemies he hadn’t expected to ever face and learn more about the legendary beasts of old than he could ever have imagined.
As you can tell from the plot summary, this book has a lot to offer on many different levels. Whether you’re a fan of a fantasy adventure, historic political drama or a detective story you’re sure to find something in this book that will appeal to you. The writer does a great job in weaving these different components together in a compelling book that will try to keep you entertained from start to finish. It is quite nice to say that all necessary boxes were ticked in every part of the story which kept the momentum going until the end.
The fantasy world still leaves much to explore but it is easy to get lost in the magical world of Claire- Agon filled with magic, wizards and dragons. The dragons in particular feel like the most interesting part of the story and whenever the story centers around them you can feel more energy emanating from the pages. It is definitely a treat to read about this fascinating version of these mythical creatures. It is only fitting the book is named after the dragons that are at the heart of this nice little fantasy treat.
The political drama and intrigue is not really my cup of tea and does often get featured throughout the book but it never got too boring. Give credit where credit is due and credit is due for the author to get across so much information about this world without dragging the story down toward the abyss of boredom. Plus the political drama makes the ending work so well in this book and it does make the ending stand out more because of the buildup towards the climax so the book would probably not be better off without it.
As far as the detective part of the story goes, it is quite obvious that there is no Sherlock Holmes lost in this story. It is a quite straightforward mystery that doesn’t take a brilliant sleuth to solve but even though it is quite obvious what is going on for the reader, we are still taken on quite a path of discovery that will keep you on the tip of your toes.
The story has got quite a good jump start. It doesn’t take long to get sucked into the story as the story starts with a bang, while it does have its slower moments it never loses too much steam and keeps racing towards the end. The battles and the scenes where dragons are involved in particular make for the most memorable moments in the book but even during duller moments in between, suspense is never far away.
A little heads up to anyone who wants to tackle this book, it is filled with a lot of characters. So many in fact that you can get a little lost at times in that vast sea of characters when you don’t read it in one go. That being said, it doesn’t take long to get sucked back into the story after leaving it be for a while as the characters are quite straightforward and the writer did a great job, portraying quite a big cast with relative ease. The ending in particular was quite messy with so many characters being thrown around but in a good way, like organized chaos I would dare to say.
In short, are you always up for nice little fantasy story? If so, this could be just what you are looking for. This is not a fantasy masterpiece - not by a long shot - but it is quite enjoyable at times. It has some great moments in it that make it worth reading if you’re up for some fantasy done right. It has its flaws but as long as you’re not expecting perfection this book can easily entertain you and perhaps even persuade you into reading the sequels.
The reader is immediately pulled into a who's who as the book opens. We see lots of people from multiple different countries/realms? It's a challenge to track what is happening.
Then we realize the group is dragon hunting. We learn that everything is far more involved than one would think about dragons and humans. We learn something about the battle between humans and dragons. But perhaps even more about the conflicts between the different groups of humans. Lots of subterfuge and backstabbing. Magic appears but is available sparingly.
Certain a different take on the human/dragon conflict
Kaylor was a Kesh wizard who was hunting a dragon. With him was Overseer Jaxon who was Balarian bureaucrat. Also present was Alyssa, who was a member of the Thieves Guild. Seth, who was a member of the Assassins Guild. As well as Balarian soldiers. And last but not least Krom, an Akun Cleric. They managed to kill the blue Dragon. The planet Akun was approaching and strange things were beginning to happen. The death of the blue Dragon was led to other death and other dragons. Mister Mercer has writ-ten a fine book and I really enjoyed reading it I recommend it especially if you like dragons good or bad...
I thought that this was an okay read. This fantasy tale about dragons, wyverns, wizards, warriors, merchants, clerics, etc is an entertaining tale with reasonable pace. There are lots of characters and intrigue but the central story is kept relatively simple so it is easy to follow.
Loved the story line even though it was hard to stay interested in the beginning. By the time you got to the end you were left wanting more. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I ended up liking this book when I got about half way through it. It was very slow to start, but about midpoint, it picked up steam, (pun not intended) so to speak. Hard to understand the names, but an enjoyable book.
You are immediately thrown into action with a huge cast. There isn't time to develop any characters. They exist more as archetypes than well rounded individuals. The action is fast moving and complected, but I didn't care.
This is a very good story. The plt is well planned. The characters are interesting and relatable. The story kept my attention. If you like fantasies you'll love this book.
I enjoyed this tale immensely. The characters were very believable, and the plot was excellent. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Okay, I did enjoy this book with reservations. It seemed to me that the plot started almost with the idea that I knew who the characters were. There was no kind of introduction, just bam, here we go. As someone else noted, there were quite a few people to keep track of. It would have been easier without the similarities in some of the names: Orwell/Arwell (or something similar) and a couple of the wizards also, but it turns out they were brothers so there you go. Some people like to name all of their children with names that start with the same letter.
As noted in the title above, this is supposed to be Claire-Agon Dragon #1, however the cover of the book claims it is Dragon Series 2. I guess it doesn't matter all that much since the author claims each is a stand-alone novel. At the end of the book there is an introduction to The Black Dragon. Supposedly the order is Blue/Green/Black/White/Red with one final epic, "The Dragon War" to be released in the Fall of 2018. To confuse matters even more, there is a series taking place in the same country, Claire-Agon, with the Rangers being the featured characters 1,000 years later.
If these are stand-alone stories, I wish the author wouldn't have ended this book with a zombie rising from the grave (When will people realize that cremation is the only way to go?) Will we ever find out how this fits into the story? There is also a blooming romance between a couple of the characters and it would be nice to find out a little more about that.
Since according to Amazon I purchased the five book set, I will muddle through and depending on how much I like them, may go on to read the final epic and the Ranger books.

Good Reading Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book was interesting. I found myself lost at times with all the characters that were involved , the storyline is amazing and thought provoking. This is the first book with the dragons being the evil side , quite refreshing and thought invoking. Well done Mr. Mercer.
As with Salvador Mercer other novels this one is great. I have had the opportunity to tread all of his books and I am a fan. His novels and characters are very coordinated and leave you wait g for his next experience
