This new book by George Verwer reflects his heart and continuing passion for mission, for his fellow believers, and for God's grace and mercy to be shown and experienced throughout the world. George bears his heart in his usual honest way, sharing life lessons, learned over many years, about the challenges and complexities of life and how easy it is to get into difficulty. Each of the 14 chapters cover valid, standalone topics, covering George's thoughts on: unity; paradox; mission; mistakes; mercy; and leadership.
Published 2015 by CWR, UK Pages: 132 First sentence: from the Forward, "More Drops: Mystery, Mercy, and Messiology is an important book for two reasons: firstly, the author, and secondly, the message." from the Introduction, "For years I have been praying and struggling about writing another book." I have know about George Verwer for thirty-eight years and have known him for about thirty-five years. I love his global jacket, that he still wears, and his beach ball World globe. You need to read a biography on him. In each book that I have read, there is some autobiography in it, and there is in this one too. Here are some chapter headings: Messiology; The Church, Missions and Hollywood; The Leaders God Uses; Where Do We Go From Here?, to name a few. And there is always a recommended reading list - one of my favorite sections. You can read it in one sitting but you just may want to read a chapter and think about it and talk to God about it. I recommend it to all Christians, mission minded or not. It is good stuff to feed on. Stars: 4 out of 5 visneblog.wordpress.com
A heart-stirring challenge to encourage, support, and pray for brothers and sisters serving in messy situations and ministries
I found this a heart-stirring challenge to trust the Lord Almighty to work in even the messiest of situations. The book has helped me to be more generous in my assessment of others’ ministries. George Verwer’s thesis is backed up by a treasure trove of experiences combined with pithy reflections on key Bible passages. The book has made me want to follow the author’s lived-out wisdom that generously withholds judgment about messy ministries and situations and prays for them and looks for what is God-honouring in them, rather than writing them off as not useful to God.
Somebody needs to give Verwer a lesson on book writing. For being so well read throughout disciplines, you'd think he'd understand basic structure. Worse, he's created a theory that God uses people and situations of all types, with a made-up word messiology. Huh, original. If you're creating a theory of the world, please follow the scientific method, including qualitative and quantitative evidence to test your hypothesis. Or at least stop with the first person stories on your success and everyone's failures. That's what resumes are for. Why did I subject myself to this?
There's a simplicity to this little book, but its a simplicity that comes from someone who has great experience and understanding in what he's writing about - which is to celebrate what God is doing, and to encourage others to join in with this work. Its probably apt that a book titled, "Messiology" is a little bit messy itself, but this is an enjoyable book, both challenging and encouraging, and comes from a man who so clearly loves God and loves His people.
This book is awesome. I challenge everyone to read it.
This is a thought provoking x challenge to our own thinking. Missions is the greatest x most rewarding thing you will ever do for God. I'm just starting out at 67yrs x I'm never give g up. Thank you George Verwer for such a great book. Now I'm ready to make my next mission trip
I appreciate George Verwer’s honesty and straightforwardness. It’s an easy read full of lessons to help you on your journey as a Christian. Key takeaway: Give, be grateful, and keep reading books to find your way (especially the Bible).
listened to the audio book, read by George himself. An amazing testimony to God's grace. Loved his honesty about sin and his willingness to challenge what we think about mission and how God works.
A less of an OMer book, but still every OMer and exOMEr should read this one. Great passion on forgiveness and running the race among the mess of Christian circles and life.
Classic George Verwer. His books are challenging, and should be read. This one make a lot of sense, common sense! The problem is as many have said common sense is not so common as we should expect. This book is much of George's journey and what he has learnt, and we need to hear it.
