A Short Story by Acclaimed Short Story Author Barbara Collins
Excerpt
Officer John Steele was sorry to hear the news about Mrs. Strebel, a childhood neighbor of his, having a serious heart attack.
After finishing his rounds for the day, the thirty-five year old policeman with blue eyes and sandy hair drove his squad car to General Hospital to check on the widow's condition. There, a doctor in intensive care told him the old woman was stabilized . . . for the moment . . . but the prognosis was not good. Steele asked if he might see her; the physician said only if he promised not to stay too long.
