Float like a butterfly. Kill like a swallowtail.

Scott knows his boring day is over the second a bloody and scared George Kelvin crashes into his office, claiming people are trying to kill him. He knows he should pass the case over to one of his brothers, but he can’t seem to do it. The strength and resilience of the man mixed with a quirky sense of humor fascinate him. He may be a human in the company of powerful shifters, but he’s just as deadly and well trained as the rest of his brothers.

With devious CIA agents, foreign forces gunning for what George possesses and George’s power-hungry father, who is also Deputy Director of the FBI, Scott begins to wonder if he’s bitten off more than he can chew.

George always knew his father was dangerous and cruel. However, he never thought that those titles would inadequately sum up the lengths his father is willing to go to, to get what he wants. The only chance he has is using whatever is on file against his father. Staying alive to do that is another challenge. When he runs into the Shifter Protection Specialists, Inc. office, he’s desperate, but isn’t convinced anyone can protect him from his father. Risking more than he’d thought possible, he discovers that maybe he is more than he’s always been taught to believe.

One thing is for certain—his father is not going to give up easily.

The Shifter Protection Specialists Inc. series

Shifter Protection Specialists, Inc. is a group of dangerous and rare shifters found, rescued and trained to protect themselves and others. There really is nothing better than a good book and a big mug of tea on a rainy day, which is often needed when considering the wet weather in Wales. She is rarely found without a book of some description on her person and a notebook, she can always be seen scribbling and doodling while lost in thought about sometimes random nonsense or day dreaming about alternate worlds of fiction. Real life may not be much fun but the imagination allows infinite possibilities to be explored and lots of naughty fun too if you're up to the challenge. So in the words of a crazy scientist - I reject your reality and submit one of my own. Happy reading.

I'm really enjoying this series and I love how many shifters are in this family -- lots of character and maybe books to come. This one was better than the first one, the story was more developed. One risk in books with so many characters is that the main relationship gets lost in the shuffle and/or watered down and I think that did happen to Scott and George a little bit in this one. Scott, in particular, was undeveloped and his actions seemed sort of knee jerk because we didn't have a lot of insight beyond the minimum into why he did some things. If you are looking for a romance heavy book with lots of analysis and heartfelt talk, this isn't your book. The emphasis is more on the action with the couple stuff fitting in around the edges.

I do love how shifters are so possessive. And I also loved the shifter twist in this story - did not see that coming.

Editing is getting better but a few things still sneaked through.

I'm excited for the next book.

I like this one better than the first in series. I mean butterfly shifter? Come on folks, that's a new one. Lots of action and evilness and sexiness. Plenty to keep a body entertained. They weren't both lovable at all times (Scott) but it all pans out in the end.

This is book two in a series and though it’s a standalone, I highly recommend reading book one both because it’s really good and because it helps introduce the many, many characters in this book.

George is the brother of not-Barry, aka Frank, from book one. Frank tried to kill a model, Kale, who ended up being the mate of Aleksi who is Scott’s brother. Scott, Aleksi and several others are “brothers” who run a paranormal protection service. George goes to Scott via the Protection Service for safety. He’s being chased by his father because he has blackmail material on his computer that could put his father in jail for killing his mother.

Very complicated? Yes. But once you get past the complexities this is a fun, rich story about shifters and political intrigue and computer geekiness.

I can’t tell you what the “twist” is but let’s just say there’s a reason the cover looks like it does.

Scott has never been the sentimental, snuggly, protective type, but George brings about all those feelings and more. Watching him fall for George is sweet and at times really funny. George is both meek and fierce and when we see just what he’s capable of, it gets even more interesting. The smexy times were hot and the romance was very sweet.

I really enjoyed book one, and book two takes right up where that left off. SA Welsh has a fun, engaging writing style with very “real” but creative characters who don’t follow the typical “shifter” lore but still give off that “MINE” vibe.

This book is part of a series and should be read in order.

I really liked George from the start. His plight just made me feel for him. From the beginning things are bad for George. His father is a serious asshole and he gets worse as the story goes. But even with all the things going on George still was able to keep a sense of humor. I liked his personality and his wit. Really he was just adorable to me.

Scott is a hottie no doubt. But he is far from perfect. He more the wham, bam, and leave type. He so does not understand the pull George has on him. So he does makes mistakes along the way. Luckily he does finally pull his head of his ass.

Throughout the story there is intrigue, several close calls, attempted murder, sarcasm to the extreme, and pretty damn awesome sex. This was a wacky ass rollercoaster ride and I enjoyed it all.

Even better along the way I learned a little bit more about the family that runs the Shifter Protection Specialists Inc. Each one is unique and a character I want to learn more about in their own books.

I highly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to more in this series,

I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

I really enjoyed this book. While the romance was not very prevalent, there were some hot lines that could develop in to a full blown relationship.

I love that despite the "alpha" feeling that the brothers have, that George's inner animal is one of grace and beauty. He is both dangerous and beautiful - an appropriate shifter animal given his dubious upbringing.

Then you have Jazz - who I felt needed more attention - but did like how he and George were able to bond so quickly.

Overall, this had great mystery, was suspenseful and is a new, fresh way to write shifter relationships.

I can't wait to see what happens next!

I didn't actually remember a lot from the first book but was able to follow along. The intrigue and action was confusing to me at times.. like I just didn't 'get' it I guess.

But I liked Scott and George. Scott reacts badly to how he's feeling by being an ass a few times. And George, strange mix of backbone, sassy, smart alek, smart, and afraid. Not a push over even if HE thinks he somewhat is.

I'm looking forward to the boys finding their mates in the future.

Picks right back up and gives the whole story!

This book is a direct follow from the first. It takes a moment to backtrack, showing the lead up to George crashing into Scott's office, then jumps right back in. It was great to get some answers to questions left open in the first book while still wholeheartedly embracing this new couple.

It seems that between a shifter and their mate the bond can be felt quickly and It is felt by both parties, even if one is human. Feeling so connected and caring for someone so quickly can be quite the shock and this book explores that nicely by pairing a commitment-phobe with someone who has never been exposed to a loving relationship before. The two have plenty of personal hurdles to deal with when they aren't being shot at by international assassins which makes for quite the fast paced compelling read.

I loved the two leads and their interaction with the rest of the close knit, oddly matched, slightly dysfunctional family that is Shifters Protection Inc. Each character has their own life to them and there are clearly plenty more stories to come out of this world, and I can't wait to read them!

I am liking this series. George's life is in danger and the source of this danger and reason behind it is a bit twisted. George also learns he has powers but it is not you might expect. Scott is in charge of the agency and tend to not get involved or connect with others, but with George things are different.

3.5 Heart Review by Kimberley

Shifter Protection Specialists, Inc. is a human/shifter run family business which specializes in providing protection for people in danger. This is book two in this series and I must say that it is off to a pretty good start.

George, a half human, half Swallowtail butterfly shifter, is on the run from his abusive, cruel, and corrupt human father who happens to be the Deputy Director of the FBI, and various other foreign operatives hoping to get their hands on some valuable, top secret information he has. It would appear that George, while quietly gathering proof that his father murdered his mother, inadvertently obtained obtained information that could very well endanger the security of several countries if this information were to fall into the hands of the wrong people.

This series so far is turning out to be a pretty good read. I find the characters entertaining. Here you have this close knit family which consists of human and shifters who run a successful protection agency. The interactions between these brothers will keep you laughing throughout the story with Oscar aka Ozzy, a bear shifter providing much of the book’s humorous moments. There’s Iago, a Phoenix shifter, the beautiful Viktor, a gryphon shifter, Raptor, a velociraptor shifter, and a snake shifter named Khan. Then there’s Merlin, a dragon shifter, and Aleksi, a saber tooth tiger shifter (Purrfect Protector). They’re all brothers with humans Scott, Jazz and Robert, the oldest brother and patriarch of the family. What I especially liked about the story was the loving and close relationship these men share. They’re proof that not all families consist of blood relatives. Welsh has done a great job of forming these characters. The way the characters are written allows you to become connected to all of them which will make the transition from one book into the next easier.

The author did a wonderful job of connecting you to these men. I cared about all of them. You not only got a book featuring the MC’s story, but the other character’s stories as well without it being confusing.

The lengths of the books are substantial, which is something that I really enjoy when reading a series. There were a few editing mishaps but they were minor and did not deflect from my overall enjoyment of the story. I liked the book and I think that other readers will as well.

If you enjoy reading about shifters, intrigue, action and suspense with a touch of sexiness, then this series would definitely be something that would interest you. This is yet another series that I will continue to read and enjoy.

“He lived with one goal in mind since he was old enough to understand what hatred was, and he was so close-close enough that he could taste it. Colonel Kelvin wasn’t untouchable. And George was near being able to expose every little dirty secret with proof to back it up.”-George Kelvin
George Kelvin’s life plan is simple: gather information to bring his father down secretly. Well, that was the plan until his psychotic brother dropped off the key that sets the whole thing in motion prematurely. Weeks later, George finds out that his brother was charged with attempted murder on a celebrity model and his shifter boyfriend. It is only a matter of time before his father realizes what George is up to and now he must disappear once again. So where can a man like George find a place where he feels safe, protected, and loved? Why, the shifter protection agency that helped capture his brother, Frank Jr. a.k.a. Not-Barry, of course.
Protecting His Asset is the second book in the Shifter Protection Specialists Inc. series by S.A. Welsh. It should not be read alone since the sequence of events that led up to this one are essential. This book focuses on the journey that George is thrust upon and the man he falls in love with Scott, the protection agency’s boss.
I was looking forward to this book and I got to say that I don’t love it nor do I hate it. Here’s what I loved about it- the character development and description was well detailed and easy to get into. I felt that I personally knew these men and felt part of their family. Then the scenes between Scott and George, Phew! They were hawt!! I also enjoyed getting to know the other characters a lot better in this book. It gave us a glimpse into the close knit family Aleski (Purrfect Protector Book 1) and Scott are a part of. The nerd and jock jokes were fun to read as it appealed to this little nerd’s heart.
Here’s what I didn’t like- the book had too much going on and not enough explanation to the events that were taking place. Many of the scenes were drawn out and felt at times to take a while to end. It also seemed to have much more melodrama between the characters that had been mainly men. I do not think men, especially shifter men, would act this way. Possessive, yes. Whiny, no. Complain (all men do) and closed off-ish, yes. Wishy-washy, not so much.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read that kept me interested until the end. If the series continues I will most definitely pick up the next one because these characters are too awesome to ignore. Plus, I love a great M/M romance and this series has great potential!

Yes! I was right to push forward after the slightly disappointing first book of this series! This story was much more than what I was expecting and kept me entertained right up to the words "The End"!!!

I found it intriguing that Scott, the human was the dominant character, while George, the shifter was the one that was cared for by him! Don't get me wrong, George, even though he had been abused practically since birth, was a VERY strong and courageous character... he just had a tender, emotional side that needed to be loved and appreciated!

Now, if there was one thing that bugged me, it was Scott when he went into commitmentphobia mode... but, George just pulled up his "big girl panties" and said, "F*CK you... I was alone before I met you and I can survive without you!" Well, maybe not in those exact words! *grin* But, have NO fear... Scott isn't the chickensh*t that we fear he is turning into and the guys get their HEA... but, not before some major action in and out of bed! Bullets flying everywhere... bad guys popping up like they are running a Sunday special on them... and brothers of all species doing their "thing" to save the day!

I loved the way the author showed diversity in this book without having to mention race, color or gender! Well done!!! :D

I hope to return, in the VERY near future, to this series and see what Khan is up to in Guarding His Mark! And, I suppose we will just have to wait for all the other brothers to get their stories... Jazz has some growing up to do... but, I am sure his story, when we finally get it, is going to rock our world! *grin*

George Kelvin is on everyone’s must have list because of the information he has. Running for his life, George’s last hope is the Shifter Protection Specialists, Inc. With the help of co-owner Scott McCade, George found the safe haven he needed to live through his father’s perilous deception.

Protecting His Asset is the second book in the Shifter Protection Specialists Inc. series. The plot features corruption in the federal government committed by high level fanatical civil servants. Vital information that could destroy countries is for sale to the highest bidder. But, critical information of this nature generates a life-threatening environment as the Deputy Director of the FBI soon discovered. Another revelation in the plot relates to the identity of the stalker in the first book of the series, Purrfect Protector.

Protecting His Asset showcases background on how Shifter Protection Specialists Inc. got started by Scott’s oldest brother, Robert, who works for a powerful top secret agency. Robert found orphaned shifters and brought them home to be part of the McCade family.

The shifter characters are a unique collection not usually found in shifter stories. It is a stretch of the imagination to think of a velociraptor as a bodyguard for humans. Nevertheless, the velociraptor is one of Scott’s adopted brothers and all of the shifters are very protective of the three human McCade brothers.

George is not the fragile young man he first appears to be. George has an inner strength that belies his small stature, superior intelligence as well as an abundance of integrity.

SA Welsh’s Protecting His Asset is an entertaining suspenseful story.

Second one it the series, and it’s best to read in order.

This one is about Scott, The man in charge of SPA. Even though he has two shifter brothers he himself is human. We met him briefly in book one, but really got to know him and Jazz (the younger brother) in this one.

George, has had a miserable life. Between his mother being killed in front of him at age five, his father using him as a punching bag, and then his brother picking on him and then being ‘killed off’ in the first book. All he wants to do is lay low and survive. But for some reason his father keeps finding him?

Finally, George runs into the right person that can point him towards the people that can help.

These charaters work well together on paper, even though they are all different shifters. Which is good because with each aspect, twist and turn they need a different skill to get the job done.

George and Scott are an interesting pair. Almost, teacher, pupil at times other times D/s. But it all works.

It was a good book, but I couldn’t connect with the charaters all the time. Too many of them, not enough time spent with the ones that mattered. Myself, not in the right frame of mind for this style of book. All added up to me not getting what I should have from the story. If a book three comes out, I will look it up, but wait for the mind set to read. And do the book the proper reading it deserved.

This is a fun, steamy romp. A mix of shifters and human agents join forces to prevent secret government documents from falling into the wrong hands.

There is absolutely nothing believable about this plot. When you add dragon and butterfly shifters to a story about FBI secrets, I’m not sure how there could also be realism, but I’m sure somewhere on Goodreads there will be a complaint. No - suspend your disbelief and join The Shifter Protection Specialists as they take on evil enemy agents from around the world.

Despite the gunfire and the life or death timeframe, Scott and George have time for some very steamy sex scenes. Shifter books have always been able to excuse insta-love plots as fate between mates, but Welsh doesn’t make any excuses, she just gets her men naked as quickly as she can. At work. At home. In a car… anywhere and everywhere. Again, don’t think too hard, just enjoy it.

This is action-smut. It is sexy and enjoyable but the writing is very clunky and the story is completely implausible. Except for the shifter butterfly, the characters are vaguely forgettable. Read this in a hot bath with a glass of wine (but don’t waste the good stuff). Turn off your brain and enjoy the pretty shifters as they save the world.

Read by Tams Kelly for QUEERcentric Books

In book 2 of the Shifter Protection Specialists Inc series, SA Welsh brings us Protecting His Asset, where we are reunited with Scott McCade, who we first met in Purrfect Protector.

Scott is a brother of three, and the only one of the McCade brothers not born a shifter, but that doesn’t make him less deadly.

When George Kelvin runs terrified into his office, Scott feels conflicted. He knows he should direct the younger man to another agent – but he can’t.

Something about George sets off a tender side that no one but his family ever sees.

To protect George from his murderous father, along with the FBI, CIA and KGB, who think of him as mere fodder, Scott will need the help of all of his brothers – blood and otherwise. Plus all the luck they can get.

Nothing grabs my attention more than a strong man turning to mush. That’s what Scott does whenever he is around George, when not acting all alpha, or being “walking sex” on a stick.

George throughout his life had always been treated like he was dirt or worse yet – nothing. Throughout the book he cannot quite understand the attention Scott and his brothers give him.

Once they learn to trust him, of course.

Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book.

George knew his father was bad to the bane, he just didn't think he'd go as low as he did. George needs help. The sort of help Scott and his brothers provide. But George has secrets he didn't know he had, and those secrets could kill Scott.

I liked this, a lot! I've not read book one in this series, and I think it would have helped me to. Its just for me, it doesn't affect my star rating or my reading experience. I'll probably go back at some point and read it.

This is told from both Scott and George's POV, so we get to hear from both of them/

It has drama and danger. Some twists I did not see coming. Some interesting shifter types too. Snakes, lizards, phoenix and dragons as well as the usual bears and big cats.

It was an easy read, with just enough information filtered through, all in the right places, to keep you on your toes and interested.

Its the first I've read of this author. I will, as I said, go back and read book one in this series. I should also like to read any future books too. Some hints were made to possible future story lines and I would like to see them through.

4 stars.

So I want to say this book was just amazing!! I have never read a book with this kind of shifter before and I loved it!
Scott works with his brothers and is seriously bored with his job when George comes crashing into his office.
George his running from a lot of different people and his father who all want one thing. Scott agrees to protect him and just WOW!
I have to say I loved these two men together from the start! There was so much action in this book along with some steam and so much sweet! The way Scott had all these possessive jealous feelings when other men looked at George while at the same time being so protective and caring even when he pushes him away for a little bit.
Then there was George who is very attracted to Scott and cares about him so much.
I love the way this author wrote these characters and this story! Also loved this shifter world S.A. Welsh created.

Now I am really hoping Raptor's book will be next there is just something about his character, I can't wait to find out more about him.

All together I really loved this book!
I would definitely recommend this book!

I love shape-shifter stories and I must say, this is the first I ever encountered one involving this type before. I had to go and research on it, just to confirm what was written here, in the hopes I would understand the chemical reactions to the **spoil** (I won't spoil). All I could say, after reading about it for real, it was WOW! such things actually exist!

So we have a shifter story and it is not brilliant but it is definitely one of the well-written ones. I finished this in under two hours, and that was between cooking and laundry. This was fast paced and it opened a whole lot of questions but they only served to make me crave for more.

Yes, shape-shifter. Definite recommend.

I didn't realize this was the 2nd book in the series until after I'd already started. So I haven't actually read the first book in this series just yet...It wasn't confusing or anything but I'd recommend reading these books in order just to get introduced to all the background characters a little more.

This book was pretty great. What an AWESOME array of shifters! Seriously...I've never read about these kinds of shifters before so that was pretty cool. It's nice to get away from the usual wolf and cat shifters every once in a while.

I loved all of Scott's brothers and really wish I'd actually read book one first so that I could have read more about them all. Scott and George were a great couple and

I'll definitely be reading more of this series!
