"Teepees & Trailer Parks" - Episode 1 in the Sweet Southern Sleuths Short Stories: A Cozy Mysteries Women Sleuths Series.
Loretta Sweet and her identical twin sister, Lacy, have recently inherited a home in Misery, Mississippi, from their distant relative, (Aunt) Tess McCoy. Their aunt's attorney insists that the girls meet him at the property to discuss the specifics of the will.
When the sisters arrive for the meeting, they discover that there is more...much more to the will than just inheriting a home.
As the attorney prepares to go over the details of the will, one of the "stipulations" makes a dramatic appearance, along with a body that is found in the bathtub.
Will the Sweet sisters turn tail and run or will they stick around to help solve the murder?
Teepees and Trailer Parks is the first story of the Sweet Southern Sleuths mystery series by Hope Callaghan. It's a short, quick read. Cozy mystery. Twin sisters inherit from their Aunt Tess: a trailer park, a teepee tourist attraction, a mansion with a dead body in the bathtub, and the care of their older, debilitated uncle. I really liked it. Loretta and Lacy Sweet are fraternal twin sisters. They look and act nothing alike but move from mystery to mystery in the town of Misery, Mississippi. The good thing about cozy mysteries is that they’re like short stories in book form, bubblegum for the soul type-of-stuff. If this first one is any indication, these are going to be fun little edible bites of murder mystery goodness.
I would have given it 5 stars but.....I am giving it 3.5 stars because: I loved the mystery, the characters and the setting A LOT! The story was just absolutely too short for my taste. The 51 pages were not nearly enough for the story - it seemed like the skeleton of a very fun mystery. All the details that make it well rounded story were not there... I wish the author would have made it a "real" book. I would love to read the other installments in the series but I don't like to be disappointed by the choppy style again.
A fun short story about two sisters who inherit a trailer park. The story line was fun and I enjoyed the characters Loretta and Uncle Ichabod and I am hoping Loretta's sister Lacy disappears and isn't involved in the rest of the books she is just annoying. I also like Officer Gatlin who seems to be the love interest. A quick entertaining read.
Twins, Loretta & Lacy Sweet, arrive in the little town of Misery to collect their inheritance. Aunt Tess has passed away & left them a little something to remember her by. Both girls think they're getting a house. Instead, they receive a house, a trailer park, & some tepees. Of course, the tepees are part of a tourist attraction.
Unfortunately, the twins are also about two receive a few extras. First, the house comes with a stipulation. Uncle Ichabod is the stipulation. Thinking ahead, Aunt Tess added a clause that Lacy & Loretta must allow their Uncle to live out his life in the house. Neither twin had ever even heard of him. But, the bigger shock is surprise number two- a dead body in the bathtub.
Local bad boy, Delbert Rucker, is deceased & lying in the bathtub. Being new to the town, neither lady knows him let alone who might want to kill him. Uncle Ichabod senses a new purpose in life & decides he & Loretta will crack the case. Reluctant Lacy just wants to go home. Never having been close sisters, this development is just too much to handle. Can they get it together enough to solve a murder, run a trailer park, & handle their newly discovered uncle?
This is the first in the 'Sweet Southern Sleuths Cozy Mystery Series'. I had to laugh as the only other Delbert I knew of worked at my very first job. He was, more or less, my mental picture of the deceased in our story.
Hope Callaghan has crafted a very clean cozy mystery. I was a bit surprised that her story started out as all about Mr. Rucker's death then switching a more of a story about Loretta. She appeared to be the main character though both sisters were said to be the stars. Poor Mr. Rucker fell to the wayside. However, it's a good cozy mystery & presented a strong start for the series. It's 3 stars from me.
This is the first book of the “Sweet Southern Sleuths” cozy mystery series. Twins Loretta and Lacy Sweet have thrived on disagreements about everything and were happy to live completely separate lives, until a surprise inheritance forces them together. They suddenly find themselves the joint owners of a quirky trailer park and teepee holiday village in the small town of Misery, Mississippi. It sounds too good to be true, and Lucy just wants to take her share and run, until they find out that the inheritance comes with small print. They have to run the place together, and care for their eccentric uncle Ichabod. Just as they are coming to terms with that, Ichabod discovers a dead body, and the sisters find themselves tangled up in a murder investigation. On the suspect list are all the oddball characters who call the trailer park their home.
This book is short. At around 13000 words it’s really more of a novella than a novel, but it does manage to fit in an introduction to the local characters and a fairly straightforward murder mystery. The characters and the setting are enjoyable, and the romantic competitiveness between the sisters adds a bit of sparkle.
This is the first short story in Hope Callaghan’s Sweet Southern Sleuths Cozy Mystery Series and is a delightful read. This book includes a well-plotted storyline, well-developed characters, and an interesting mystery to try to solve. There is no adult language, graphic violence, or sexually explicit scenes. This was easy to read and held my interest. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading light, cozy Christian mysteries.
Loretta and Lacy Sweet are identical twins and believe they’ve inherited a southern-style mini-mansion in Misery, Mississippi from their Aunt Tess. The twins are delightful but their body styles and personalities are nowhere near identical. They learn the inheritance includes the house, a trailer park, and some Indian teepees; and there’s a big stipulation attached. Within moments of entering the house, a dead body is discovered in the bathtub. Since Loretta is interested in detective work, she decides to investigate and she finds a clue that’s critical to Officer Phillip Gatlin’s investigation.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting plot and colorful characters. I had more enjoyment finding out about the characters than the murder mystery. Zany and strange. Funk. Fit of rage. A secret locked door to the attic. Fun read.
Loretta & Lacy Sweet, twin sisters had found out their Aunt Tess had died and left them some property in Misery, Mississippi. Loretta shows up first, but Lacy is not far behind. Their Uncle Ichabod was also at the house and had just discovered a dead body in the bathtub. From this point on they are searching for the killer. This book was so much fun between the interaction of Lacy and Loretta, with Lacy throwing herself at all attractive men. I can’t wait to read more about Lacy, Loretta and Ichabod.
Loretta Sweet and her twin,Lacy just received word that their aunt recently passed away and left everything to them. They both travel to Misery,Mississippi to meet with Aunt Tess's lawyer. Lacy detests everything about it but Loretta finds that she loves the estate. She also likes Uncle Ichebod. Then a body is found in the bathroom! Who is the dead man,who could be the murderer and why murder? This is a quick little story but is very well written and has a good storyline. I give it 5 stars and recommend it to everyone who likes cozy mysteries.

This is a fun short story set in Misery Mississippi The sisters arrive in Misery where they have been left a house a trailer park and a teepee attraction when their aunt died. They arrive at the house with the lawyer only to find a dead body. A quirky storyline that makes you laugh. I enjoyed reading this book and will read more of the series.
A surprise inheritance finds twin sisters at odds with their inheritance and with each other. Stipulations to the inheritance mean the sisters must reside, manage the assets and care for their eccentric uncle. Things are off to a rough start with the discovery of a dead body, an attractive police officer and sisterly competition.
I started another Hope Callaghan series. This one is starting off to live up to the same good mystery as the others. I can’t wait to read the next book.
I received this book as an Arc from the author. I’m writing a review because I honestly loved it! I tried to buy the book, but I can’t buy it on the kindle app. It’s a really great prequel about sisters who inherit some property and a murder. Highly recommended!
This is another series I just loved by Hope Callaghan. What a great story teller.I just love her characters. They are all people I want to know better.
I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. I voluntarily chose to review this story and I've given it a 5* rating. There is a lot going on in this who dune it and it really kept my attention drawn to it. I wanted to know what happened next. I still want to know what happens next. Onto the next.
Short read before bedtime. A whodunnit that leaves you wondering until the end. Quirky, fun and believable characters. Uncle Icky is a hoot. I like his zest. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella and look forward to more.
This book was cute but very short. I feel like Hope Callaghan could have really stretched the story line and evidence finding out. Over all I liked it!
