He may have the double agent Maria Overgaard to help keep them at arm’s length, but he soon discovers that, as useful as she may be, she by no means has innocent intentions with him.

But the problems run deeper than just new faces. A year of co-habiting has seen Peter and Septimus grow used to one another, and familiarity breeds contempt. Danger lurks on all sides and from all species, but the greatest threat to Peter’s survival may just be the only friendly face he can turn to.
