Summary:
Brash space adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb's true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.
Verdict:
I have a soft spot for space operas. I have already said in the Thor book review that Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy were my favorite Marvel movies. Guardians of the Galaxy more so because it has a smart, lovable host of characters. These characters carry depth in their background, worldview, and uniqueness. Drax and anyone would make for a hilarious combo. Gamora and Nebula share an intense emotional relationship. Rocket, Peter, and Groot (oh, blessed Groot!) make up for a badass motley of baddies. This book tones down the language a bit for the younger readers, but that is not necessarily a bad thing here.
