The inspirational combination of quotes and Scriptures in this book has proven to be a popular and comfortable way to communicate not just man's insight, but also to include the wisdom of the ages---God's Word.
Some of the stories and lessons in this little book are true gems. Others seem like poor fiction with a Scripture verse tacked on or a moral lesson added in the last three sentences. While it's enjoyable to read, it's not something I would hand to just anybody because some of the Scripture connections are questionable. For myself, it will probably not be a re-read. I think I prefer devotional books that make me think more. However, I may flip through the pages again sometime to review those few gems it contains.
This was one of my mom's books that I inherited after she passed. It was probably given to her as a gift at some point.
These books are fun for what they are. One of the main problems I have with them is that they don't attribute their quotes, some of which I know I've read before with famous names attached. I wonder if this is to avoid some kind of licensing, since the page set-up they use could easily fit a single name for the sake of attribution. Instead the book is more focused on connecting the quotes with a bible verse, one that occasionally doesn't truly fit the quote or the story that follows on the facing page.
Fun for what it is, I suppose. And I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who would enjoy the messages found inside, even if a few of them are stretched to make the point the editors are trying to make.
This beautiful book is a special devotional with lovely art work and a simple message to accompany the art. I read it one day at a time and was blessed, comforted, learned, relaxed with each message. The meanings are clear - no misunderstanding. Many of the messages are ones we know but I was blessed to relearn them. An example, "Falling down does not make you a failure; staying down does." I recommend this gift book to anyone to purchase for oneself or for a gift. The art work is excellent.
4.5 I started this book years ago and got a little into it and then put it down. About a month ago I found it in a drawer and decided this time I was going to start it and finish it. There are lots of life lessons in this book. There are lots of very powerful stories that is shared. I think part of my problem with this book is that although there’s a lot of powerful stories to be shared there are also a few that just are boring. So you have to let those pass and make sure the ones that are powerful stay with you. Have a great day!
A great morning devotional with lots of insights into Christian beliefs, along with supplying practical applications for your life. Each day also begins with revelant Bible verses for reflection.
I've read better devotional books but this one was still very good. I read one devotion each evening before bed and each one gave me something to reflect on in my prayer time with our Lord and as I drifted off to sleep. They were short and easy to read and many of them were cute or humorous but very meaningful if you took the time to think about the story. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a good devotional book to read to help them keep their mind focused where it should be: on our Lord and Savior.
Great devotional guide that has traveled with me from Temple to San Antonio via Ft Worth. A great reading guide when I did not use an electronic devotional.
