The Quick Guide to Classroom Management: 45 Secrets That All High School Teachers Need to Know

Most books about classroom management are filled with tricks and techniques that help the teacher to engage with his or her students in a better way. Like paracetamol for a chronic headache, these books offer a temporary relief for the symptoms of bad teacher-student rapport without addressing the root causes. The Quick Guide to Classroom Management: 45 Secrets That All High School Teachers Need to Know is not one of those books.

Effective classroom management depends upon how effectively the teacher deals with the dynamic interplay of many factors in the life of the child. This book will teach you, through the hard-earned experience of the author and the contributors, the secrets of:

1. Working effectively with parents: your key customers
2. Enjoying productive relationships with your co-workers
3. Building and maintaining rapport with your students
4. Actively engaging your students in the learning process
5. Engaging your advanced learners (such as your 'A' - Level, SAT and IBDP students)
6. Managing student behaviour in a way that is non-confrontational
7. Using ICT to effectively enhance the learning process
8. Teaching overseas, and the special challenges this involves

Fully illustrated with full colour infographics, images, diagrams and charts (and with extensive citations throughout) this book offers a 'breath of fresh air' for the pedagogical literature scene and provides a high-quality, accessible and essential guide for every high school teacher.

Mr Richard James Rogers was born in Wales and educated at Bangor University, UK. The majority of the book is centred around the author’s personal opinions and limited experience. None of it is evidence based or backed up with any research. It uses schools of thought that are incredibly outdated and have actually been proven to be wrong. Could really hinder trainee teachers , NQTs and RQTs.

I received this through a Goodreads giveaway. Since I've been teaching for over 30 years, most of what was shared was not new to me. However, a beginning teacher would find the tips helpful, as most newbies do not expect the range of personalities & attitudes among the many students & parents they will encounter in a single term. I liked the inclusion of technology and found the QR hints useful.

A brilliant book! As a teacher myself, this handy guide came in really useful as I was writing it. The tips on using ICT in the classroom are very comprehensive, and I believe that my take on building student rapport is very intuitive and makes a lot of sense. Should be called the 'Complete Guide to Classroom Management', since it is very detailed.

The Quick Guide to Classroom Management is a refreshing new book that includes many personal stories, humour and a plethora of tips on how to build rapport with your students to help you manage your classes.

It is raw, honest and sometimes cringeworthy in terms of the stories that highlight what not to do, or how not to behave as a teacher.

Each chapter ends with a summary and a series of questions for the reader, which I feel tests your understanding of the chapter but gives you the opportunity to take notes and build on any ideas you have whilst reading.

The language is kept simple, making the book easy to read and understand, unlike some other teaching books that are full of jargon completely new to many trainee teachers and NQTs.

It the book also contains beautiful illustrations that help bring the book alive and you can genuinely feel that the time and effort that went into this book comes from the heart.

I would recommend this book to any trainees and NQTs, but also to experienced teachers who may be in need of fresh ideas.

This book has reassured me that I am on the right track in certain aspects of my teaching but also given me plenty of new ideas to try once I get back in the classroom and I can't wait to take this book forward with me!

I had the opportunity to read this title because I was winner of goodreads giveaway. I thought it was a very good read, potential for discussion within teacher study group. The illustrations were excellent. It is something I think experienced teachers as well as first time can work together.
