He's annoying. He's dangerous. He smells terrible. But the public loves him. That's right- the Merc with the Mouth may make money for missions of murky morality...but he's become the most popular hero in the world for it. Eat that, Spidey! The world belongs to Deadpool. The fan favorite team of Gerry Duggan and Mike Hawthorne return to bring Deadpool into his most successful adventures yet!
Deadpool is franchising his name and likeness so he can be at more places at once. He's also doing interviews on his life and how he's funding the Uncanny Avengers.
What can I say about Deadpool? He's one of those popular things I just don't understand. I rarely find him funny, he generally seems more obnoxious than anything. I think funny is supposed to be his thing though so that's a problem. He's OK when he interjects the occasional odd line, but a title solely devoted to him is way too much Deadpool.
HOW come it's the same Gerry Duggan who made the other series a hell of fun makes this gloomy one.. I don't get it. and even not that attracted to Deadpool here.. why man? why? will it be better? , I pray so.
Is It Good? It’s tough to say without seeing what develops in the next few issues. As a first issue — it’s not the greatest introduction to the Deadpool character, doesn’t have the “feel” of a Deadpool title yet (with so many supporting characters crammed into the midst) and there’s very little in terms of narrative direction.
It’s worth a look for those that want a fairly interesting start and some decent action, but as of yet the chess pieces have only been set up on the board — still untouched.
Just... sad. Sad and terrible. Terrible and sad to see my favourite character ruined.
Everything is like, pfff I really have no words. The whole thing. All of it. All over the place..
So the mercenaries who are C-Listers from a random picking I guess from the other series that's out are in it.. and.. ugh.. they're all dressed as Deadpool.
And Deadpool wants to have a team of Deadpool's to be doing jobs here and there. ugh.. it had maybe ONE good moment?
But it's all fucked up.
Everyone's all over the place, you don't know who's who and you have NO idea what's happening. Also it brings back shit from previous series, which btw you'd have to read to know, I'm fine with it, actually the Sabretooth thing was maybe the only thing I liked, which btw the last page screwed that up for me too.
Artwork is great. That's why a 2nd star.
Everything else is complete garbage. Nothing funny happening. No jokes. Nothing. Nada. No Deadpool in this one. It didn't feel like I was reading Deadpool not one second. And I've been reading Deadpool since the Joe Kelly run. So, there's that.
I'm sad and disappointed.. of course I'm going to keep reading and hoping cuz I can't do anything else.
Don't get me wrong, I love Deadpool, so I was naturally expecting more from his much anticipated new series. I wouldn't call it bad, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting coming into this. First off, Wade Wilson wasn't very present considering that this was the pilot of his new series, and that said what we did see of him was a bit underwhelming. It was nice to see him, but I had higher expectations, especially since they kept teasing us with fake doppelgangers of him (which are all actually unpopular Marvel characters that, while nice additions in their own light, only serve to make things confusing) for the majority of the magazine, only setting the bar higher, when in reality it doesn't quite reach the hype. Another issue is that the plot of the pilot doesn't really welcome newbies, and may even cause a bit of confusion to older fans. I am not quite sure if this was the intent or not, but it kind of hurts the work as a whole. It took me a moment to fully grasp what was going on at certain moments. Deadpool is a series known for having great humor, but that also seemed absent for the most part. Though I don't personally mind the fact that it took on a slightly more serious tone than usual. Unless you're a loyal fan, I can't say that would strongly recommend picking up a copy. I hope that this continuation will soon improve with time, but it's a bit hard to say for sure. Verdict: 68/100
Duggan's Deadpool is my favorite iteration of the character right after the rendition of him we saw in Uncanny X-Force. There's a good mix of humor and seriousness that makes me enjoy the character so much. I think there's a lot lost when writers go for straight batshit craziness, it doesn't paint Deadpool as the threat that he is. I also really love the list of C and D list characters that are assembled for Deadpool's team of Deadpools.
I wasn't sure how I felt about Deadpool creating a team of mercs, though it does seem like something he would try. I read this issue, then #7, so getting to the "origin" stories of his merc team right away helped me to get more context on the first issue right away. I'm kinda sorry I'm not collecting the single issues right now, because based on #1, #7, and #13, Duggan seems to have a really good grasp on the character. I haven't read much of Duggan's Deadpool up to this point.
2/5 estrellas
I believe this was my first try at a Deadpool solo (not part of a special issue, mini-serie or event) and it was amazing!!! So funny!! Now I'm going back to read other of Duggan's material. Can't wait!
