Hearts out of Time is the first book in the trilogy An Era Apart.
Tracy steps into a futuristic device and plunges into a world she never imagined. Although flaming desire is a tempting pit to dive into, a life is at stake and evil is lurking. In an uncanny nineteenth century where incredible characters love and fight, vengeance and hate are never far away. Aboard a dream train, across a treacherous Nevada desert, down into dark hideouts and nasty secrets, passion and duty struggle to conquer the worst enemy of all: love. For at the end of the line, one must win, one must lose.
Welcome to Chris Lange's fantasy world where she lives most of the time. She loves alpha males, badass bikers, sensitive men, hot vampires, angels, demons, cowboys, cops, ghosts, knights, kings and the Winchester brothers. When not writing, reading or listening to classic rock, she can be found watching Supernatural. Chris Lange is a dreamer and a storyteller. She writes about love, love, love, and sometimes she leaves her characters' bedroom door open.
Time travel, vampires, romance, suspense and plenty of adventure. that is what you will find within the pages of this read. There is a lot going on in this book which makes the fact that it is the start of a series so important--it definitely left me wanting more. I loved this book and was swept away on an adventure that to me was unique in every way. I have never read a time travel book that incorporates paranormal/fantasy--it was awesome and leaves the story open to so many exciting possibilities.
Tracy finds herself in search of her scientist father. While following his cryptic directions, she is taken away to 1899, to a time where gentry were everything and she was a nobody. Of course she falls in love with Garrett, a man beyond her station. Together they search out Tracy's father and the questions regarding the Everett Project.
Like most romances, you expect that the lovers would end up together but this ending takes a surprising twist, setting the stage for the next book. If I loved this read, I loved the ending the most--It was surprising, unique and did exactly what a series starter should do...leave me questions that can only be answered with the next awesome read.
Fabulous story. We get adventure, suspense, great lead and secondary characters, a piece of the Old West, and a romantic love story. I really enjoyed being transported to the end of the nineteenth century, especially with a man like Garrett. He can seem stiff at times but what a man! I recommend this read to all romance lovers looking for a great book.

Every now and then I like to take a break from my usual genres and read something a little "outer worldly". So with an open mind I was excited to escape reality with some Sci-Fi Romance. Even though Science Fiction is not my preferred genre, "Hearts Out of Time" by Chris Lange was better than I expected. Having a healthy balance between the Sci-Fi and the Romance isn't always easy, and Chris Lange does it well. I could follow the time-travel / other dimension aspect without getting bogged down in description and just let the story unfold as it does. This is a story of forbidden love (with a time-travel / other dimension twist).
Tracy Richardson was living the normal life of a 21st century single woman until a phone call triggers an adventure like she's never known. Before she has any time to stop and think about the instructions given to her, she's whisked away into another era (19th century San Francisco). There she meets the perfect gentlemen, Garrett, whose opposing public and private persona's have her head spinning. Learning that she holds the key to rescuing a loved one, she has a hard time staying put and doing what she's told. She's breaking rules while at the same time trying to reconcile her feelings for Garrett.
Garrett Burnes is a handsome, polished, well-bred "Gentleman" from 19th century San Francisco who is loyal, dutiful, and mission-oriented. The last thing he expected was to fall for a "Modern" woman, whose uncouth speech and mannerisms are so unlike his own. He complicates the situation by succumbing to Tracy's modern feminine ways. Garrett and his companions Wheedon Welsh, Jake Cooper, and Jessica Harring have a mission to protect her from enemies who would do her harm, and a relationship would be in direct conflict. As much as he'd like to be with her, there are other circumstances involving Garrett that would prevent any chance for a happily ever after.
I really enjoyed reading "Hearts Out of Time" and really took to the whole cast of characters. Chris Lange wove a nice tapestry of forbidden love, adventure, with Sci-Fi and some supernatural elements mixed in. I'm looking forward to reading the next two installments of this Trilogy, and other books from this author.
This was a different type of read that I normally choose, but I really enjoyed this. This was more of a sci-fi/paranormal romance. We had Cross Dimensional travel which actually takes is to a time in our past but in another dimension. Confused? I was too at first then I got the gist of it.
This is part of a series and does not end in a HEA, nor does it end in a HFN either. We are left with a semi cliffhanger.
Tracy gets a call that her father has been kidnapped, thinking she got the call by mistake, she ignores it and goes about her day. However when she gets to daddy's house, things are in shambles. Following clues left over the years from her father she finds herself in a hidden area in the basement. When she leaves the basement, she is not where she thought she would be...She winds up in 1899 (in another dimension) Thanks to Garrett and the circle, she is determined to find her father.
There is mystery, intrigue, Sci-fi (being the crossing dimensions), Paranormal due to our vampire and vampire huntress, a lil bit of romance and deception.
The story line is interesting, the characters were entertaining, the descriptions to details were done nicely for the most part. The sexy bits to me, were a bit awkward and almost seemed forced. I love sexy scenes in a book, but the way these where thrown in and Tracy's comments to Garrett about sex was odd to me. Not in a bad way, just different.
All in all, a good read and I do look forward to the next book in the series.
I'm just going to start with WOW! This has been an absolutely interesting read. I'll be honest and start with I had trouble in the beginning getting into this book. I would pick it up read, then put it down and read something else. It was like there was too much to absorb with not enough explanation with a back story. But I persevered and boy am I glad, because suddenly the story line began to click, it was not about time travel but moving in an alternate world.
The back and forth between a Garett a 19th century man and Tracy a twenty-first century gal. That was some unusual back and forth. This story left me with so many question that I was totally intrigued. What is her father really thinking in that genius mind of his?
I look forward with much anticipation the next in this trilogy.

Free to borrow through Amazon Prime. This one's hot. A hot mess, that is. The writing is somewhat awkward and immature and sometimes confusing.
"He filled the coffee machine with water and switched it on." (Action by a supposedly 19th century man with no experience with electricity)
There is a marked inattention to detail and a train stolen directly from Wild Wild West. The heroine comes off as argumentative (although I think she's meant to be seen as feisty) and self-centered, and brings nothing to the table as far as I can tell. The hero - a real snooze. What is meant to portray overwhelming desire on his part just makes me lose any respect I may have had for him. And then there's this:
"Garrett grabbed her arm and dragged her across the room, his gaze glinting with resolve. "She squirmed against him. "What are you doing? Let go of me!" "Not as long as you're out of control. You need release, Miss Richardson, and I shall give it to you." When they reached the living room area, he released her, then quickly pulled down his pants and sat on the kitchen chair."
And
"I presently request your beautiful body. Would you permit me to bestow my strength upon you?"
I have no words. The villain's identity is obvious from the first mention of him. And there are - - vampires??? Not to mention total instalove and a hint of a love triangle - - with a - - vampire??? To the good, the sex scenes aren't all bad, although there is still a problem with the level of writing. The premise is pretty creative, and some of the secondary characters are interesting. I think a good editor may have made a huge difference. The conclusion leaves loose ends and unexplained details, hopefully (but not necessarily expected, on my part) to be wrapped up in Book 2. Will I read Souls Out of Time? It is free to borrow. The answer is I just don't know yet.
Hearts out of Time was a lovely time travel story. From the very first page you are drawn in and thrown in the middle of the action following a beautiful past. The author expertly develops some nice twists that keep you guessing. There are some steamy scenes in this book as well.
Tracy is a lovely character, true to herself and not afraid to go for what or should I say who she wants. Garret is a great match up for her. There are some additional characters who add beautifully to the story.
This book reminded me a little bit of western style Indiana Jones. I enjoyed reading this book and can recommend it to people who enjoy a nice mystery, with romance and some paranormal thrown in the mix.
I have received this book from the author for an honest review. (LoP, Lovers of Paranormal)
I was looking for a time-travel romance and I decided to give it a shot. This was okay. I am just not in love with it. The style was just okay. I needed a HEA and I did not get it. It kind of just read like a place holder. I wanted more!
