Jess finds himself in Destin, Texas, shooting it out with three outlaws who are hell-bent to stop him from taking down Harvey Millican, a man who raped and murdered a young girl. When the smoke clears and Millican is dead, an old man by the name of Grant Sackett talks Jess into letting him travel with him to Luden, Texas, where he can turn in Millican’s body for the bounty on his head.
While there, he receives an urgent request from United States Marshal Frank Reedy telling him to make it to the town of Washburn, Texas, where John Bodine is waiting for him. Washburn is the town where a ruthless gang of robbers and murderers, led by Wilfred Stanley, murdered a young woman and her two young daughters during a bank robbery.
When Reedy meets with Jess and Bodine in Washburn, the three of them team up together to hunt down Stanley and his gang. The hunt takes a deadly turn when they are ambushed and Bodine and Reedy are seriously wounded. Stanley and his remaining thugs get away when Jess has to escort Reedy and Bodine to the closest town to get to a doctor.
He leaves Reedy and Bodine in Trumbel and sets out by himself to hunt down the last three outlaws. They make his job difficult by splitting up and heading in three different directions, but Jess in not one to give up once he sets his mind to something. The hunt turns deadly and bloody, and Jess finds himself hoping that Reedy and Bodine get well enough to help him finish the job.

Another fast moving western adventure involving our Jess Williams and U.S. Marshals John Bodine and Frank Reedy tracking John Reno's gang of bank robbing, murder, rape..It's the usual types that Jess hunts down. But Frank Reedy has a deeper reason for hunting these creeps. It sought of gives you the reason why Frank never married or sparked any women. The great Jess Williams, Bounty Hunter and sometimes U. S. Deputy Marshal when he's called on because of his tracking abilities plus he always gets his man.
This was a very good story and it was nice to have Frank and John back. I do agree with a previous reviewer about the price of the books. And having previous books priced a dollar more is strange indeed.
Although I love this series, I need to give serious thought to future purchases. Can we please have Jess Williams stories at a reasonable price?
I enjoyed this book like the other in this series. Short, again. There's a hint as to what Jess' future may be. Bounty hunter working with marshmallows looking for bank robbers who kill all the witnesses.
This story seems to be getting back to the old Jess. The best part was having Reedy and Bodine riding along. The interaction among the three was touching at times with a good deal of humor. Hopefully they will be together again. This was Jess at his finest.
Jess, Bodine, and Reedy hunt down a group of murdering bank robbers. During the capture of the last man, A secret comes to light about Marshal Reedy. I like it when favorite characters interact in a story.
