I was asked by RJ Dahl, the author, to read his novel C.A.G.E. #5 and then to review it. The Federal Bureau of Prisons along with Incarceration Technologies has developed a program for Homeland Security. It's a program to help relieve prison overpopulation. Prisoners up for 'early release' would be allowed out once they agreed to have a CAGE device implanted into their brain. The CAGE unit is designed to be policed by a Remote Corrections Station computer technician. They are able to control the CAGE wearer through electro -stimulation if it's deemed necessary. That could include sending behavioral impulses, finding their GPS location, and a fail-safe option, if all else fails, that will shut down the brain. Dr. Sean Savage is a psychiatrist picked to work with Nathan Smith, one of the five test subjects. Sean gets to know Smith, and sees him as a man whose main concern is raising his three motherless teenagers. Then Smith does something out of character and is in a lot of trouble. Sean realizes that this is not the Smith he knows. He wonders if his CAGE implant could have malfunctioned. He begins to look for answers but Incarceration Technologies and Homeland Security are not talking. Now Sean KNOWS the CAGE Unit failed Smith. How will he ever be able to prove it? Are the other test subjects also in any imminent danger? This is a multi-layered psychological thriller. I really enjoyed reading this highly satisfying novel!

Received as a giveaway in hope of an honest review.
I worked as a jail nurse for almost 10 years.
This suspense novel details a new method of monitoring convicted felons with psychological disorders near parole on trial with 5 inmates. A team of corrections personnel, psychiatrists, psychologist and the inevitable Fed are monitoring this wonderful new implant which is to monitor the inmate outside of a facility and has the supposed ability to thwart impending behavioral episodes. But suddenly, something goes horribly wrong with #5. Sean tries to become involved in correction of the problem, but is stonewalled at every turn. And then things really go to hell.
Well written and intensely absorbing. The characters reach out and grab you so that you really hate to put it down!

A scientific suspense thriller about the C.A.G.E. program. A federal government program designed to help reduce over-population in the prison system & how it works.
This book goes into detail explaining it, but not too much to bore you, just enough to help you understand the in's & out's for you to be able to follow the story line.
Athough, there are some glitches in the program & one of the forensic psychologists decides to take matters into his own hands & figure out what went wrong.
I thought the book was very interesting, original & definitely was a page turner.
I look forward to reading another one of this author's books.
