Sheriff Dare Turner is known for his ever-present scowl and general bad mood. Between a teenage sister who thinks she’s all grown up and a killer on the loose he doesn’t have much to smile about these days. He simply doesn’t have time for fun and games. Rayne Dunn is half free spirit and half workaholic. She doesn’t mind the long hours in her tattoo shop creating works of art on skin but sometimes she’d rather be dancing in the rain with someone special. The trouble is she hasn’t had a date in way too long. She needs to change up a few things or she’s going to work herself into an early grave. Every time these two find themselves in a room together they end up arguing. Rayne thinks the sheriff has a big stick up his posterior and Dare thinks the sexy little tattoo artist is too loud and mouthy. It’s best if they stay far away from each other. But when someone breaks into Rayne’s shop and then winds up dead that probably isn’t going to be an option. Whether they like it or not, they’re going to be spending a great deal of time with each other. And they’re starting to really like it…

You know who would like this book? People who like Kristen Ashley and the whole alpha male thing. I'm not into alpha males because I'm an alpha female. I would kill the crap out of one of those guys. You would find me over their blood-soaked body grinding my heel into their crotch screaming, "Why don't YOU make ME a sandwich, bitch?"
So, to start off my crappy, rambling review, here's a quote from the book:
"Has anyone ever told you that your cat looks like Kirk Douglas?"
Huh? Who the fuck is Kirk Douglas? I had to look it up. Then, I realized that her answer should have been, "Yes, that guy in the time machine, just back from the 1950's did. We laughed and laughed, and then he told me to make him a sandwich. He's dead now. I killed him."
So, the girl with the cat is Rayne. She's a tattoo artist with purple streaks in her hair, so she's a bad girl. Supposedly. The only problem in seeing her as a bad girl is that she giggles a lot. As a matter of fact, there is a lot of giggling in this book. It's a bit annoying. Like, check out this quote:
(When talking about someone dying and horrible things happening):
"...It's nothing to kill or die for."
Misty giggled on the other end of the line. "You do make a good point."
What the hell was wrong with Misty? Was she drunk? It made absolutely no sense for Misty to giggle at that time. I mean, truly, grown ass women shouldn't giggle at all, but if she needs to, maybe not when you are talking about death and robbery and a police investigation? It was weird.
Anyway, Rayne has the hots for the sheriff in town, Dare. *sigh* Yeah, I said his name is Dare. He's a cowboy-cop who is too serious. Her name is Rayne and she's a manic pixie dream girl. She even dances in the rain.
Someone breaks into Rayne's tattoo parlor and trashes it, so Dare to the rescue. They realize that they are attracted to each other, even though he usually likes his women blonder and more meek. She's hot and sexy, so he might as well break a few rules for her, in spite of her personality...
He had it bad and the only cure was to get the little lady in the sack. Once he'd sated his hunger things would go back to normal.
Lovely.
Of course, he eventually learns to love her in spite of her flaws - you know, the speaking of her mind and all... He's a real hero for putting up with shit like that.
DNF @ 69% Sorry but I’m calling it quits for now …(maybe)
There is no real chemistry between the MCs and Dare’s hang ups are taking too long to unravel. The one smexy scene was pretty hot but besides that the “mystery” surrounding Rayne is pretty obvious and the fact she hasn’t thought (even a little bit) that the strange tattoo/image the dead guy was asking about – you know, before he ended up shot dead in the back of her shop – might actually BE what the killer is looking for OR that is might be a map, was ridiculous. Then again, Dare, a seasoned cop and his ex-FBI friend couldn't piece it together either so . . . *Smh*
I don’t really like Dare, he runs too hot and cold. Also I don’t need the constant reminder that a) he can’t be happy b) doesn’t know how to be happy (even if he wanted to be) and finally, c) can’t/won’t smile. I. Get. It. Lets please move ON!
I think the writing style is just not a good fit for me and I ran out of patience with both MCs. Side characters weren’t much better.
This was a good 'grumpy sheriff meets girl with sunny disposition' romance. The setting is a small town in Montana. I have read all of the books in this series and I don't see that there's much, if any, 'Cowboy' to most of it except a setting in a western state. Otherwise, they are pretty much a group of truck/SUV riding lawmen. The books are really pretty good, though. I recommend them for good romantic suspense readers.
Tattoo artist Rayne Dunn (BFF of Misty from the last book in the series) and Sheriff Dare Turner get their own book in the Cowboy Justice Association series. They're supposed to be a classic example of opposites attract, but the author made Dare too grumpy and awkward for their relationship to make sense. Plus, the villain comes out of nowhere after a fairly slow and meandering plot. It's not bad, but it's definitely not the best in the series.
After her tattoo parlor in Fielding burns to the ground, Rayne Dunn decides to take her business to Valley Station where grumpy and handsome Dare Turner has returned home to care for his teen-aged sister, Sophie, since their father's death. Like oil and water, these two seem to repel each other at every opportunity.
Dare's plate is full with trying to get to give his sister a semblance of family he's sure she didn't get from their father; he's investigating a break-in and murder involving Rayne's new shop and at the last sheriff's meeting the group is put on notice that old fashioned bank robbers are on the loose.
The immature silliness of twenty-something romance is replaced by the mature silliness of world-weary thirty-something romance as these two relearn the steps to the age old courtship dance... undercover so to speak. The ''different-ness' of getting to and having their first date was akin to a cute meet and worked well for the pair.
Though the mystery itself seemed relatively simple, once again the journey from start to finish powered the read as the cases overlap. When she's assaulted and her home is broken into on the same night, Rayne believes Dare is the only safe place for her. Packing up her cat, Spartacus, Rayne is set to move in with Dare and Sophie. Rayne and Dare have a clear idea of why and what but not who or where.
When Dare could no longer escape his demons and fear of commitment, Rayne's special kinda I'm not taking your crap Dare elevated her in this reader's eyes. Sassy, independent, outspoken and realistic made her a very relatable character. Dare's way of dealing with his issues seemed typical until it wasn't and it didn't take any shine off his alpha vibe at all. This couple definitely had chemistry to spare. Rating: 4.75stars
I really enjoyed this book. Sheriff Dare Turner (Dare is a nickname, but we never find out what his name actually is) is the Victoria Beckham of Montana – nobody has ever seen him smile, but everyone knows he’s good at his job.
Rayne Dunn moved to Montana to be near her married sister, who had a baby, but she’s different. She inks tattoos for a living and has purple streaks in her hair, and the more conservative denizens give her a wide berth. When someone breaks into her tattoo parlour and a dead body is found nearby, it’s clear someone is after Rayne because of something she has or knows.
Dare is not going to let anything happen to the spitfire who drives him crazy at every turn. On top of the problems with Rayne, his much younger sister, Sophie, is determined to drive him even crazier. It’s no wonder he wants to give up on women, or so he tells himself, but there’s something about Rayne he can’t move past. When he kisses her for the first time, it’s all he can think about.
Rayne doesn’t want to be attracted to the surly sheriff – he’s definitely not her type. But the man can kiss, and she finds out later that’s not all he’s good at. While in the middle of solving a murder, Dare and Rayne realise that the other is everything they never knew they wanted. I really liked both characters and enjoyed the mystery they were caught up in. Worth a read.
Rayne is a one of a kind woman. She moves to Montana to be closer to her sister. She opens a tattoo shop and stays pretty busy. Dare is the Sheriff and came back after his dad passed away to raise his sister. Rayne’s shop is robbed but nothing is taken. Dare and Rayne start dating secretly because they live in a small town and don’t want anyone to know yet. While on a date, her house is broken into and her place is destroyed, while she’s getting mugged at an ice cream parlor. She goes to her sisters after he breaks up with her. Dare gets drunk and goes to apologize. Dare moves her in with him and his eighteen year old sister, who is excited. She has a bodyguard twenty four / seven when he can’t be with her. She gets kidnapped and Dare only hopes he can get to her in time. Funny, extremely sexy, action, suspense and a big growly sheriff and a tiny tattoo artist.
This was my second time reading these books. It felt that I was reading the books for the first time. It was great how the female characters were all strong, and basically had their alpha males like putty in their hands. Very well written.
Sheriff Dare Turner has a permanent scowl on his face. Other than that he is smokin’. Rayne Dunn is a San Francisco transplant with tattoos, piercings, and purple streaks in her hair. She is hard working but manages to see the beauty in life. She is convinced that if Dare ever smiled his face would crack. When these two opposites get together the energy is of matter/anti matter proportions. These two balance each other like Yin and Yang. Watching them figure it out is a blast. Oh and there is a bank robbery a couple of murders and Rayne gets kidnapped so Dare is really going to have to work on it. This is a fun addition to the series.
Yes, even grumpy Sheriff Dare Turner isn’t immune to love. It takes a strong woman to get this scowl faced man to lighten up. Rayne isn’t any woman, she’s the perfect match for Dare.
Dare is the Sheriff in town, grumpy, ornery, and deadly serious about his job and hometown. He's got doubts about the brash, colorful tattoo artist, Rayne. But she's truly talented and he's quite pleased with the work she's done on him. But now he must get much more involved with her when someone starts targeting her in connection with murders and bank robbery. His attraction to Rayne drives him to provide protection, even if she doesn't want it. Meanwhile, Dare's 18 year old sister, Sophie, is trying to stretch her wings and has a boyfriend her big brother can't abide. The plot of this book is interesting. The characters are relatable and likeable Dare is quite a stoic alpha who gradually opens up to Rayne disclosing his painful childhood and displaying a warm sense of humor. Rayne is a forthright, independent woman who has lived on her own for much of her life. Her family is eclectic, but she has known love and knows she wants find it again. Will she and Dare overcome their differences and admit their love? The mystery, action and dilemmas they face can only provide them the encouragement to know they belong together.
This is the first one of the series that I have read. I have a habit of reading out of order.
I liked that they are both strong people. I appreciated that Dare was man enough to talk about seeing a shrink as he left the service. I really hate books where the hero or heroine disregards the availability of those services.
I liked that the plot had some twists and turns, although I did figure out part of it before they did.
I liked that she felt she could ask for what she wanted and he trusted her enough to oblige.
I also appreciated that the author didn’t forget what had happened the previous day. For example, it was acknowledged that the heroine was sore and bruised the day after something happened, and they did not just jump into hanky panky like nothing happened.

This was a good read. It's a story about tattoo artist Rayne Dunn and Sheriff Dare Turner out to catch a burglar who ransacked Rayne's tatoo parlor. Only, a dead body is found and nothing is actually stolen. The crime spree continues in this sleepy little Montana town of Valley Station when two more dead bodies are found and later connected to the burglary at Rayne's shop. A bank robbery at another nearby town is eventually connected as well. All this plot is a little anti-climatic and neatly tied in a bow while Rayne and Dare get their HEA. Although I enjoyed this story, both Rayne and Dare were a little two dimensional. The sexy times were steamy and delicious. There were some laugh out loud funny one liners that were delightful and injected a little levity to an otherwise bland, predictable story. This all balances out to three stars.
The basis of the series is the relationships between the lawmen and then each individual couple in each book. Both are integral elements of the storytelling. There is overlap between books with the relationships between the characters, for example Rainer, the female protagonist in this book, was nearly killed in Misty and Jared’s story.
The mystery in this one is kind of boring. Also, it should have been pretty obvious what the bad guys were after in Rayne’s tattoo shop. I guessed it immediately. But much of that storyline just didn’t make sense. It’s also pretty clear who one of the bad guys is.
Just not a lot of suspense here. The romantic relationship likewise is kind of dull. Maybe the series is just getting boring for the author to write. It didn’t have the spark of earlier books.
Justice Inked by Olivia Jaymes is a fantastic romantic suspense book. Ms. Jaymes has delivered a well-written book and furnished it with phenomenal, lovable characters. Dare is the grumpy Sheriff of Valley Station. Rayne moved to Valley Station when her tattoo shop in the neighboring town burned down. Rayne and Dare's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Olivia Jaymes in the future. Justice Inked is book 7 of the Cowboy Justice Association Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
What can I say about this series that I haven't already said in previous reviews? Well not much! I love every single sheriff and their feisty women. I love how the sheriffs friendships travel over the books and intertwine as it allows us glimpses back into their lives. This book was great, it had just the amount of suspense in for me and the wonderful happy ending was the icing on the cake. I hope there is more of Date and Rayne in future books,.
I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. Rayne is a tattoo artist in a small Montana town and Dare is the grouchy Sherriff. They are opposites and seem to clash whenever they cross paths even though there is a spark of attraction between them. Petty small crime is the rule of thumb in this town until they escalate into several incidences of break ins with even a murder and somehow this all centers around Rayne. Easy, predictable read.
Wow! 2nd book i read from Olivia and it was good. It had your Brood, scowling, suffering in the inside kind of Man, that is actually wanting to be loved by a great "no shit" kind of woman. I like the heroines of this books so far, they are not your typical "Virgin" sweet and " Yes Sir" kind of girls except if they want to be submissive on their own terms. It had mystery, suspense, thieves, shooting all cops and robbers theme. Can't wait to read all books.
Dare was a sheriff to a small conservative town. Rayne was the tattoo artist with purple striped hair, tats and piercings. Dare was moody. Always frowning. Rayne was pragmatic but hopeful. How robbery, murder, greed, chaos, rain, ink, and dancing bring them together is a story worth reading.
I wouldn't normally buy a book with that cover but it was free so I lowered my standards! I'm glad I did take a chance on it because it was a fairly decent read. The story had a bit of everything.
There were a few too many references to the "little lady" for me (macho man rubbish) but overall it was an enjoyable read.
3.5 stars. This was a sweet easy read. The suspense was nice but I was far more interested in the interactions between the main couple. The murder burglary plot was fairly easy to put together and it was all wrapped up quickly. It wasn’t anything extraordinary but it was a fun read on its own. I liked Rayne a lot and I’m a sucker for any opposites attract trope. Def give it a go
I enjoyed reading this book. Grouchy alpha male meets free loving, smart, take no prisoners female. When she becomes targeted by a group of bank robbers, as the sheriff, he steps up to protect and serve. It’s a fun, sexy, mystery thriller. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
Justice Inked : Book 7 ( Cowboy Justice Association)
Book 7 of 10 The love story of Dare and Rayne. Rayne is a Tattoo artist and she is having a run of bad luck, first someone try to kill her by burning down her story with her in it and now someone is breaking in her home and looking for something, she known not what. Can Dare keep her safe? Great story.
This is one of my favorites if the series, it's non-stop intrigue that leaves you guessing until the end. The relationship between the Rayne and Dare is slow to evolve which was refreshing instead of the often overused insta - love plot. A truly engaging read and one I'll read again!
I have enjoyed all the Cowboy Justice books and this latest one, Justice Inked is no exception. A lot of books in a series become like a photocopy of the previous books except for changing names etc. These books are different enough but linked to make each story unique. Very well told. Cant wait for the next book.
Dare gets his happy ever after with Rayne the town's tattoo artist. She helps him face his insecurities and he shows her what support and protection look like. There's also mystery/crime that Rayne is unwittingly drawn into and get to catch up with some of the other cowboys in the series.
We finally get our loveable grouchs story. Dare has been featured in many past stories and it was great to finally get his story. Meeting Rayne was a good way to make this story so interesting. We had met her before as well so it was a joy to have them together. Storyline took a twist I didnt see and I loved it. Plus the updates.
A tangled web! I loved it, and the characters Rayne & Sheriff Dare Turner. Poor Rayne from the last book to this one. She was in someone's cross hairs. She is a tough one, though. What a back story with the sheriff! Parents can really "#uck up" their kid's head & life. Everyone was affected by this outcome. Enjoy! 📚🎉❤️🌻
