Little Miss Pepperpot is kept busy all year round, what will she get up to this time? She might very well find herself riding on a cat, being adopted by a hen, saving her friend the moose and cheering up a young girl in hospital. A compilation of twelve stories, one for each month of the year, The New Year's Eve Adventure; Fate and Mrs Pepperpot; Mrs Pepperpot helps Arne; Spring Cleaning; Easter Chicks; The Cuckoo; Midsummer Romance; Mrs Pepperpot and the Pedlar; The Moose Hunt; Mrs Pepperpot and the Weather; Mrs Pepperpot in Hospital; Mrs Pepperpot's Christmas.
Alf Prøysen (23 July 1914 – 23 November 1970), was a writer and musician from Norway. His Mrs. Pepperpot books established him as a children's author. Prøysen was one of the most important Norwegian cultural personalities in the second half of the twentieth century, and he made significant contributions to literature, music, TV and radio.
What a way to end my random library selections. I loved Mrs Pepperpot's stories when I was a young girl and I am still enjoying them as old as what I am. Mrs Pepperpot shrinks to the size of a pepperpot without any notice, and is then able to communicate with animals. This is perfect for hunting season when she wants to warn the moose in area to stay away from an opening where the hunters will be waiting for them. The stories in the book are short and easy to read.
I am reading a lot of my beloved children's books again. sadly some of them don't age well, but thankfully Mrs. Pepperpot is still funny and not horrible in anyway that I can find. Great for reading to children and for children to read themselves. Actually read an earlier edition with the original illustrations. I hate newer editions with the 'wrong' illustrations. But still the same book so I am not going to create another needless listing.
Mrs Pepperpot is amazing. She has an unpredictable habit of shrinking (to the size of a pepperpot) and going on lovely adventures. When she's shrunk she can speak to animals and they can speak to her which is all very helpful. Until you come across an Italian hen of course who thinks you are one of its chicks and then everyone is confused. It was fun to revisit these stories after so long.
The illustrations by Bjorn Berg are lovely, and it was translated from the Norwegian by Marianne Helweg.
