This book is the most comprehensive collection of planning theory books out there, in my opinion. It goes through a historical range of theory, from the mid-1800's to the present. All of the contributers are well-known in the field. Highly recommend for anyone beginning to learn planning theory.

The reader is a collection of classical essays on urban and regional planning. Very good for introductory courses of planning theory.
