My daughters and I read through a good portion of this book for 5th and 7th grade homeschool science this year. I think it is a very challenging read and we read most of it aloud and stopped to comprehend as we went along. Some of the experiments were fun but many were pretty basic and didn’t excite the girls. We ended up skipping some and just reading through them for understanding. Some of the writing was repetitive and could have been written more considering so it didn’t feel so heavy.
We all really enjoyed the first chapter that covered significant scientists. The book really explains what science is and what it is not. I also really appreciated the biblical worldview of the book and think the author did a great job in that aspect.
We used the journal and testing guide with this curriculum. The journal is colorful and a helpful support to the reading. Overall, I can say that we all learned a good amount and found it to be a success.
Everyone should read this book! It teaches us what science is, what science is not, and what science has to say about foundation issues of our world. Engenders an interest in science. Trains a scientific way of thinking. Whilst clearly upholding a young earth creation stance, with evidence and reasons, it talks through the opposing views and shows why the biblical accounts are more credible than that of scoffers. Designed for self study by home educators, this is written in conversational style as if the teacher was talking directly to the student. Has frequent demonstrations/practicals using everyday items from high street stores. (The multimedia CD ROM is optional and not needed, though has a few interesting clips for those who don't just want to read.) The solutions and tests manual is also optional, though useful.
