Michelle Pillow is quickly becoming a must read author for me. The relationships she develops between her characters are well thought out. Her characters are well-developed and she always seems to hit me on a emotional level with all of the books I have read from her so far.

Princess Fen has been forced to marry. At her mother's insistance, she must endure countless suitors coming from upstanding families. She is not drawn to the snobbish men of her station...instead she wants another. The man who stepped in and saved her life. A commoner who with his warm heart and winning smile has stolen her heart.

Piers Aaron has loved the Princess from a distance. When he saves her from a certain death, he is surprised when the Princess sees him as a man, but not a servant.

I really liked the strong-willed Princess Fen. What was fresh about this storyline to me was the determination the Princess has for Aaron to be with her. She persues him. I really liked her. She simply doesn't take no as an answer. I thought that was refreshing. She came, she saw, she conquered...in the end I thought...YOU GO GIRL!

This is considered erotica, but I would catagory it more as a sensual romance. Yes, there is some lovemaking, but it wasn't any heavier than some mass paperback romances out there.

This is the second book in the Zhang Dynasty series. It is not nessessary to read the first book to understand what is going on.

Butterflies Are Free?

The Dynasty Lords live in a land where class makes all the difference, but changes are coming.

Princess Fen is expected to uphold the traditions of her family after her sister Princess Mei left to travel in space with her mate a Lord of the Var. She does not want to marry any of the nobles presented, she does not want to marry anyone yet, but then she sees the most beautiful, captivating eyes ever and she is enthralled by the eyes of this commoner. She must have him, but he is not reacting to her like others do?

Pierce Aaron has been in love with Princess Fen since he first saw her 10 years ago, but he knows the way of nobles, he has been shunned by them since he was a child. Will one time with the captivating Princess be sufficient to live his life without her, after all she is flirting with him.

Will Princess Fen rebel against the royals and go with her body's desires to bed the commoner, or will her loyalty to them be enough to deny her the pleasure?

Michelle Pillow - Temptation of the Butterfly: A Qurilixen World Novel (Anniversary Edition) (Dynasty Lords Book 2)

This is Book 2 in the Dynasty Lords Series, a spinoff /addition to the Quriixen World of the Draig and Var shifters. There is some crossover of characters. This series takes place on a planet that has been settled by those of Chinese customs, and there are two main families (Zhang and Song) that hold the power and rule over this planet.
We have learned so far that the Zhang Dynasty is steeped in tradition and hold family status and their version of what honor means, plus the influence of the ancestors (many who remain in the form of ghosts and spirits and really like to intervene).

The Empress is determined to see her youngest daughter, Fen, married to a nobleman, remain on their planet and bring the family much honor, possibly make a good match for political reasons and have grandchildren. She was disappointed in the matches of two of her other children (previous books).
Fen is not ready for marriage nor does she desire a match. As much as she wants to please her family she wants to marry for love. The development of Fen’s personality into an independent strong woman able to push against her families pressures was a great part of her story and very timely as well.
Aaron is half Lintinese and has secretly loved the princess from afar for many years. He believes he is but a commoner who’s own grandmother has rejected the boy of mixed descent.

Fen sees Aaron at the palace as the talented man has been summoned to design silk dresses and curtains for the family. She is instantly drawn to the handsome stranger with the deep blue eyes and can not help to secretly pursue him.

From here the story brings readers on an exciting roller coaster of adventure and surprise filled with mysteries, danger and intrigue, romance with some hot sexy scenes all set in this new world the author has so creatively developed. A non stop enchanting, thrilling adventure that I highly recommend for all sci-fi paranormal fantasy fans. To fully enjoy book 2 I suggest reading book 1 first.

Temptation of the Butterfly: A Qurilixen World (Anniversary Edition) is the second book in the Dynasty Lords series by Michelle M. Pillow.

Princess Fen, the only daughter left unmarried, has been deemed the need to marry a noble from their own planet. Her mother who is afraid of her leaving like her sister, Princess Mei, has taken upon herself to try to choose a noble she marries. Princess Fen is not intending to marry someone through the matching process as she desire to marry for love.

Piers Aaron is a commoner who has watched Princess Fen from afar. He designs and creates the finest silk. Aaron is a guest at the palace to redesign and create new masterpieces around the palace and new dresses for the royal family. Aaron is used to keeping to himself and being quiet, but the Princess is someone he can't seem to stop watching.

When Princess Fen and Aaron are together, there is an instant attraction that is hard to ignore. With the suitors everywhere in the palace and the Empresses wishes for Princess Fen to marry a noble, and unforeseeable little accidents that Princess Fen keeps getting herself into…Princess Fen and Aaron may not be able to even spend time with each other.

Michelle is one of my favorite authors of all time. I started being interested in reading books during my early years in college to escape the stressfulness of college and I have always found solitude and serenity when I am reading Michelle's book. Each book and each series just get better and better. I love the originality and the fantasy. I enjoyed this book so much! I can't wait to see the rest of the Zhang dynasty.

I first read this book several years ago, and have enjoyed reading it again in this, the newly released anniversary edition.

The story of the Zhang Dynasty continues, with Princess Fen under pressure from her mother to marry. So much so, that the Empress has invited several eligible men to the Imperial Palace with the very definite intention that Fen will choose one.

Disrupting the Empress's plans is the very handsome Aaron Piers, representative of the country's finest silk merchant. Aaron is visiting the palace ostensibly to replace and renew some tapestries, but he is also tasked with providing a new wardrobe for the princess, which, her mother hopes, will help her attract a suitable husband. Things heat up when Aaron is summoned to Fen's quarters to show her samples of fabric for the new gowns. Unfortunately for Fen, however attractive she finds Aaron, her mother will never consider him suitable.

A spin-off from the very entertaining Dragon Lords, and Lords of the Var books, this doesn't have the same level of very humorous dialogue found in the earlier books, much of which was a result of a planet full of (shifter) men, deprived of female company, trying to impress human women. It does however, have some well-developed and very interesting characters - especially the spirits of the ancestors who just can't help interfering. You can read and enjoy this book on its own, but for continuity, I'd suggest reading them in order.
I think this is the best in the series so far. 5 stars.

I was sure I wouldn't enjoy Fen's story, as she seemed pretty docile, dutiful, and unexciting in the previous books. I was WRONG.

The Empress has decided that Fen needs to marry and floods the Honorable City with suitable candidates for Fen. Aaron is at the Honorable City at the Empress request (also) but as a worker and not a suitor for her daughter. Needless to say that Fen and Aaron meet and bang, instant attraction.

The story is really good. Fen wants what her sister (Mei) and her brother (Jin) have - love (but she is in no hurry). Surrounded by suitors (she doesn't want) and suddenly under attack by an unseen force, Fen's serene existence is under attack. Fen's constant headbutting with the Empress and Zhang An (the ancestor that cursed The Pirate Prince's crew) assistance with Fen's problems and more depth to the story. I have to admit Zhang An is pretty important to this story. Aaron is a "self made" man, as his family has disowned him (you will want to stab his family in the throat when you discover the reason). Both Fen and Aaron are strong and know their duty, even though it goes against their personal wishes. I loved when Fen found the strength to stand up to her mother and I loved the Emperor's part in the story.

Overall, it is an entertaining story with ancestral spirits, heaps of Lintianese tradition, strict parents, a princess falling for a commoner, over protective brothers, and an unseen force guided by an unseen hand to act against the princess.

I loved this read so dramatic, full of intrigue and action and suspense
This was a simply splendid read so exciting and full of action I could not help but enjoy every single page of this book where the characters had been so well written and their plot was riveting and fantastic.
Princess Jen has been forced into a marriage she has no interest in and yet her opinion has gone totally unheeded, she has followed through simply for her family so that her mother will be happy and her family appear to be something that they are not in front of their subjects. As usual it seems that the opinion and preferences of females in the royal line are not as important as her brother so she has basically been forced to follow orders.
Jen has also stared to experience so very realistic dreams on red=gular basis and they always seem to have the same male in in and she has to admit that she feels drawn to him even though they have never met.

She is so tied up in knots and there is no help until she speaks to her sister-in-law who is able to help her, she helps her to gather her courage and take action to stand up to her mothers demands. She knows that she had=s to fight for the man in her dreams, she has never met him yet knows that he is her future, she must find him and stand by her convictions no matter the cost.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Princess Fen is being pressured by her ogre of a mother to get hitched! She quite likes freedom thank you very much and marriage is not on her radar. But every cloud has a silver lining and on this occasion that comes in the shape of Aaron!

Brought to the palace to make new gowns for Fen and others and also replace some wall hangings Aaron makes contact with Fen. He has seen her from a distance on numerous occasions and has a bit of a fixation but that no longer seems to be a one sided affair.

But their scorching hot attraction is being thwarted by the Empresses repeated attempts at putting suitable grooms under Fen's nose at every opportunity. They may be eligible but not all of them are a catch! With a hidden threat who has way too much interest in Fen, earmarking her for himself and causing her strange visions and then taking the final step and actually striking out at her, the dangerous infatuation may be the death of Fen!

I didn't love Fen the way I did Francesca. She comes across as too much of a pampered princess for me. Aaron is lovely but does tend to have inverted snobbery sometimes, seeing slights were none were intended. But his love for Fen can't be denied and I loved the way Fen's brothers banded around her to help. Spirits of the ancestors still steal the show in my opinion, this lot should get their own series, they are funny and so incredibly brash!

The Empress is meddling again (at least it's not the ancestors this time) she's determined that Princess Fen marry a Nobleman and have babies so that the Empress can see them grow uplease, unlike Princess Mei she is determined that Fen stay near. And yes the Empress and the ghost of her ancester An are still not talking to each other. Not to mention openly defying each other.
The sparks fly as Fen meets Aaron (who's not a Nobleman ) but her heart knows who it loves and nothing will stand in her way......until her mother The Empress demands Fen stop seeing Aaron or else.
There's always the dead ancestors in and around the Honourable City and especially the palace....but now there's a dark presence being summoned and Princess Fen is under attack. Can the ancestors, the Royal family, their guards and a lowly silk designer save the Princess in time?
As always I loved the way Michelle writes, her characters are witty and lifelike and the situations they find themselves is so believable. I particularly love the ancestors in this series as they remind me of bickering old ladies, interfering / helping where they feel they need to, often with hilarious consequences. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a great love story with a well thought out storyline and an attention to detail for the setting that I feel as if I've been to the Honourable City.

Princess Fen really shines as the heroine of this second book in the Zhang Dynasty series. Though a character in the previous series book, Seduction of the Phoenix, she didn’t really pop for me in that book. In her own story, she springs to vibrant life – and her forbidden love story is nothing less than enthralling. Aaron is a commoner, a man who’s Lintian ties have been stained with dishonor – which means a lot in the formal, traditional Lintian world. Their romance is strong and compelling, with heated emotions and steamy erotic moments, and a HEA worthy of all the characters have to go through to get there. The story furthers the development of the story world, brings the earlier series characters back for some cameos, and effortlessly maintains the delicate balance of traditional Chinese culture with a space-faring, futuristic world and all its fascinating details. The Zhang Dynasty books, I’ve found, are both unlike anything else I’ve read by Pillow, and still solidly stories penned by Pillow with all the strong characterization, thrilling escapades, creative settings and emotional romance that I love reading her stories for. Temptation of the Butterfly reads well as a standalone romance, but I suspect that readers who have read the previous series books will especially enjoy the story.

This is another great Dynasty book. Sadly it's the last. The world building is just so incredibly detailed in both books actually. You really feel and can imagine yourself in the Honourable City.
This book is about Princess's Fen life or should I say her love life. Since Princess Mei went off with a Var Prince, Princess Fen is the last single daughter of the Empress. That being said, it turns into a tug of war between being traditional or following your heart. The mom is hell bent on Fen marrying another Royal and having babies in the traditional manner. I'm pretty sure the Empress is a helicopter mother wanting Fen to stay very close. All the Noblemen that are paraded in front of Princess Fen just don’t do it for her. Her eyes stray to the most stunning man who seemingly shies away from her & her glance. Ironically it's a young man named Pierce Aaron whose been in love with the Princess since he was 10 years old. The one giant problem........he's a commoner and way below her station. Here's the question: Does Princess Fen follow with traditions or does she follow her heart & soul??? You'll have to read to find out.
Plus throw in some hysterical ancestors for comic relief and you've got another great book by Michelle M Pillow!

This is a fabulous look at the Lintians, the commoners and the royals of the Zhang Dynasty Fen the eldest daughter of the family and the silk designer Aaron Piers who was disinherited at a young age by his grandmother. Find that they cannot keep their hands off one another but she believes that she can actually turn off her emotions when it comes to marriage but it is not as easy as she thought it would be. The characters were very interesting as well as open about their feelings for those who have less than they do. i love the atmosphere in the story and the description of the palace as well as the gardens and the surrounding buildings, and the country side. There is romance and suspense from the beginning their is someone who feels that Fen should belong to him and him only when she doesn't pick him as her husband then things begin to happen that could end in her death. I found it to be a page turner as well as keeping me on the edge until the end. Great job from the palace ancestors. Adult. I was given a copy as a gift from the author. I am providing an honest review without obligation.

Princess Fen’s interfering mother has invited many nobles in the hopes that her daughter will choose a husband. But Fen isn’t interested in finding a husband, and when she finds her eyes constantly turning toward one man in particular, she is determined to have him even if just as a lover.
Aaron Piers is in the palace to hand tapestries. He designs silks, gowns and tapestries and is a master at it. He is constantly thinking about the princess, and finds himself gravitating towards her. When she makes it clear what she wants, who is he to refuse.
But an evil is stalking the princess and after several attempts on her life, even her family is starting to realise this.
Poor Fen, her mother bribing her to choose a noble, her dead ancestor leading her astray and many attempts to kill her, does not make for a romantic atmosphere for her and Aaron.
This was a great read; Fen finds her voice and Aaron has a long-ago mistake righted. Their attraction is hot and trying to guess who the evil is keeps you page turning to the end. Fabulous!
I voluntarily received and reviewed an ARC copy of the book.

Until she do she wants a life of her own accord not something that is planned for her.

She wants out but how can she when it becomes her duty to do so. Her only help is found in the form of her sister inlaw and the courage she must gather to stand up to her mother and fight for her love for a man she knows by law she can't have. Temptation of the Butterfly was a great book. It was well written, and very enjoyable. I’m going to try not to give away too much. It was written in such a way that I could imagine being there. I could see the palace, the gardens. I was on the tu di hang with Aaron and Fen, watching the beautiful scenery as it made its way to her brother’s house. I sat on the deck with Aaron watching to stars.
I was overcome many times by different emotions. I was angry at Fen because I felt like she was using her status to get what she wanted. Then I was angry at her parents for their stupid rules, feeling sorry for Fen. I felt for Aaron, and how he must have felt. He was always the honorable man, doing what was right. Then about halfway through, I started to understand the culture, and understand why things were as they were. I was worried for Fen, and then at the end… awe you thought I would tell.
Great book! I’m looking forward to the next one. I really want to see Haun find his happily ever after.

Another winner. Ms. Pillow manages to shake up every world she creates. Strong men are great but add sassy, defiant, equally strong women and the rulers do not know what has hit them.

It was bad enough that their son and prince married a commoner and warrior woman, now their daughter has fallen for a commoner, and not just a commoner--I'm going to let you find out more.

Emperor and Empress must be saying what happened to the time you told your kids it was time to marry, pick a noble and we'll even bring in a bunch to choose from. The kids bowed said yes and the marriage was a foregone conclusion. So far, three marriages and none have gone that way.

The love story between Aaron and Fen is hot and sweet and filled with forbidden meetings and danger. The parents are autocratic, but there are love and heart inside for their children. I loved the story, the characters, and the outcome.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. I can honestly say I loved this book. The story drew me in right from the very first page.

The forbidden relationship between Aaron and Fen could not be denied. They truly were made for each other. Both tried so hard to follow the paths chosen for them, Fen as Royal Princess and Aaron as a servent.

This story had it all, a strong, sexy, passionate alpha male and a sweet, strong, beautiful, honest and loving woman who found love in the unlikliest of places. There was romance, light humor, life threatening danger and best of all an HEA.

I highly recommend this book and all the other books in this series. Michelle Pillow is an amazing author and i have read all of her books and have loved them all. Be sure to pick up a copy of this book and other books by this author. You've I'll be very very glad that you did. Her books are all fantastic and in my opinion they are all Must Buy books.

Princess Fen has been brought up to behave a certain way. She is expected to marry a prince and as such has many, many, MANY paraded before so that she can choose one. Her mother is trying to compensate for having already one headstrong daughter out there sailing round the cosmos. She wants to keep Fen close. That said Fen has the same strength of will as her sister. She finds a man she wants and she goes after him, prince or no. Arron is the prince of her heart and that is all that matters. She sees the love in her brother's relationship with his wife and wants the same. Arron has loved from afar and when he is called to action to save her, the rewards are far an away from what he ever imagined would happen between them. That said he knows how things work in the nobility. Is there even a chance for them at all? Will the ancestors stick their noses in as well? Best read it and find out!

Princess Fen is the last remaining daughter of the rulers of Litian. Her mother is determined she is not going to lose her to some off planet man like she did her sister Mei. She has presented her daughter with a steady stream of suitors from all of the upstanding families on the planet. Fen can’t stand any of them! The one that catches her eye is Aaron, a commoner who is at the palace to design silk dresses and curtains for the palace and the royals.

Even though she knows her parents will never approve of him, she can’t seem to help herself when he is around. And when danger strikes, he is the one that comes to her aid.

Another wonderfully written book full of danger, surprise, adventure and romance. Don’t miss it!

So this is the family that cursed our space pirates. They sure have an interesting life. Seeing your long dead ancestors is normal to them and each of the siblings have their own gift.. I can totally understand the Empress, her mother-in-law might have been dead, but she is still making her presence known.

Life did not become easy for our princess when the empress took it upon herself to find her a husband. It was a bummer when she is in love with Aaron.

Aaron had lived a difficult life. Though he may be a disowned commoner, he was noble. He fell in love with his butterfly. Before our princess and Aaron can have their own happily ever after, they have to fight an evil that threatens to destroy her.

By the end, I loved this book! Let me explain... I had been thinking that since this is the first book in the series, I would only leave a 4 star review because it’s sometimes hard to follow not knowing the back story. However, about 2 hours after finishing it, I was still thinking about not only the main character’s, but all of them and wondering what their stories were. THAT is a sign of a GREAT book, in my opinion. If I could give it more stars, I would have. There were some little things that I didn’t completely understand (about how things were done or words used) but that’s not on the Michelle Pillow, that’s because I hadn’t read the stories before hand. Which I will be doing. The character’s were so detailed that you felt you knew them personally. Excellent book!!

Princess Fen is being pushed to find a husband by her Mother. However, both of her parents are afraid she will do what her sister did and leave the planet if they do not find someone from their kingdom for her to marry. Fen is not interested in being married and wants to live her life. She isn't interested in her Parents choice of grooms but is attracted to a commoner. However, her Parents plot is just a small aspect of what is really bothering Fen. She is under attack by the elements but doesn't know who is causing it to happen. Piers Aaron is drawn to Fen but think she is just using him and is going to discard him later like many have done in the past. There is an unmistakable bond and attraction between the two. The suspense and chemistry keep you coming back for more.

In this Asian inspired tale of instant attraction and forbidden love Fen’s ghostly Ancestors prove their worth and add many chuckles. While the storyline follows Princess Fen being pressured into marriage by her mother, the Empress also wants Fen to marry a Lintianese of noble birth which opens up the biases often found in so many cultures. Aaron however is neither full blooded Lintianese or noble, but he is totally honorable and gorgeous. As Fen and Aaron navigate this impossible romance we also get a bit of suspense and a mysterious baddie along with so many feels. Great read!

This is the second book in the Dynasty Lords series and a special edition is about Princess Zhang Fen and Aaron Piers is kind of a reverse Cinderella story with mystery and action. Aaron Piers is the top worker for Lady Hsin a servant who comes from disgraced family. Princess Fen's parents decide to invite all the eligible wealthy, noble suitors to the palace but she only has eyes for Aaron who she met while having a vision of burning in a fire in her chambers and he came to help her when he heard her scream. What occurs between them was another engaging story that I enjoyed reading and I volunteer to review via Booksprout.

Another branch of the Qurilixen world this one about the Dynasty Lords. Princess Fen is expected to marry a wealthy, noble man from the suitors her parents have invited to the palace. However, Fenn has other ideas after she sees commoner Aaron Piers who has a very dishonourable past. She is determined to get him, come what may. Passion flares but can these two totally disparate people really have a future together? An engrossing and engaging story with plenty of twists to keep you turning (or swiping) the page.

The details that Michelle put into this book are just amazing, you can really picture yourself on this planet and be out there with the people. This book had it all mystery, action, historical value and love, the best part was how it sucks you in and makes you want to keep reading to find out what is happening next. I really like how this book came together with the others of the series, you can just pick up another book and keep going and it's like completing a whole picture or you can read them in any order and it still a great experience.

Princess Fen and Aaron had a rough love story. Princess Fen is supposed to marry a noble and her mother is pushing her to hurry and get married. However, she doesn't want her to run off like her sister did. Once upon a time Aaron was a noble but ended up being a disowned and a worker, but he's always wanted Fen. This was another great story, filled with action, suspense, romance, and drama that had me on the edge of my seat. Michelle M. Pillow never fails to impress me and I can't wait to see what;s next. I wish I could live in one of her worlds!!!
