Ted Andrews was an internationally recognized author, storyteller, teacher, and mystic. A leader in the human potential, metaphysical, and psychic fields, he wrote over 36 books which have been translated into more than two dozen foreign languages. He was featured on many national and local TV and radio programs every year. He won more Visionary Awards than any other author.
Ted was a worldwide acclaimed speaker and teacher. He presented sold-out seminars to thousands of people throughout the US and Canada every year, and his appearances were just as popular and in demand in the United Kingdom, Europe and parts of Asia. In May 2002 he was specially invited to speak to the UNSRC at the United Nations in New York for his writings and work with animals.
This award-winning and best-selling author was involved in the serious study of the esoteric and occult for more than 40 years, and he brought to the field an extensive formal and informal education. He served the public school system for ten years as a teacher and counselor, 7 of which were spent working with disadvantaged students, creating a special needs reading program for which he received both local and state recognition.
Called a true Renaissance man, Ted was trained in music, playing the piano since the age of 12. He composed, performed and produced the music for ten audiocassettes. He could even scratch out a tune or two on the violin/fiddle. He was a longtime student of sacred dance, ballet and Kung Fu. Ted was also schooled in a variety of related holistic healing modalities, including music therapy, herbology, hypnotherapy, acupressure and other alternative techniques. A clairvoyant since childhood, he was also a certified spiritualist medium for nearly 30 years.
Probably best known for his work with animals, Ted held state and federal permits to work with birds of prey. He performed wildlife rescue and worked in wildlife rehabilitation and education. He conducted animal education and storytelling programs with his animals in school classrooms throughout the year, giving freely of his own time and expense to help young people discover the wonder of animals and nature. In his spare time, he enjoyed hanging out with his menagerie of animals, training and playing with his horses and ballroom dancing.
I grew up in a house that was surrounded by six acres of woodland, and I was always "disappearing" into nature to scout for animals, or write stories by the creek, or seek the peace and solace of the trees. This book is a keepsake for me -- even when I'm not thumbing through it (for writing research or inspiration), I find myself carrying it with me as a way of "connecting" with nature when I'm in the Big City. Much like "Animal Speak," the book, "Nature Speak," is devoted to myth and lore, covering every type of plant (from herbs to shrubs to trees) and their habitats. It also includes beautiful exercises to help the reader become more aware, and more attuned, to Mother Nature in all of her majesty.
This is an interesting look into the patterns and signs within nature. I recall being struck by how much wonder the author obviously had for the natural world. The language is reverent and the observations so acute that I could picture everything as it was being described. As the title suggests, the book promotes awareness of the spiritual in nature, reminding us that there's far more than just human life on this planet.
This has been my go to book for years and years and years. I invoke many of his writings during the equinoxes and soltices. If you have a connection with nature, this is the book for you. My pages are worn as I pull it out year after year to consult and remind myself of the wonder of natrure! Thanks Ted!
I adore Ted Andrews and have for a very long (decades) times now. This is an extremely educational books in regards to the North American Native traditions of Nature Omens and also includes educational scientific information regarding the natural elements (weather, plants, animals, etc) that provide the basis for these traditional beliefs. He discusses how omens are best used and interpreted and when you are going a little overboard as well as what role these should play in your day to day life. Cannot recommend enough!
Interesting compendium of nature folklore focusing on the alleged mystical properties of trees, flowers and the general environment. I've not seen any similar compilation. While the some of the author's paranormal claims seem hard to believe, it's a fun read to get grounded with nature.
This is a book that sits in my treatment room and which is frequently used by my self and my students as a resource to check or confirm signs and omens in nature,
I do wish it includes signs and omens from outside of the USA though but that is a small point,
Great book, very insightful. Brings back a lot of memories of my child hood growing up outdoors. Made me realize how much of these things I have forgotten about.
