From inside book jacket: "Pope Francis: His Essential Wisdom" invites readers to experience the words of the beloved pontiff. The excerpts are drawn from his homilies, books, interviews, speeches, and other writings from his papacy and from his tenure as bishop, archbishop, and cardinal. His words reveal a man who is humble, gentle, deeply spiritual, and filled with the love and mercy of God. Pope Francis is the first pontiff to adopt the name of Francis, and it is in the spirit of St. Francis that humility, services, and a close connection to his flock have been hallmarks of his papacy.
In the chosen excerpts, Pope Francis speaks joyfully about the external love of God; he invites us to open ourselves to God through prayer; he challenges us to reach out to those in need; and he reminds us of the mercy and compassion of Jesus. Also included is a selection of more personal quotations, where Pope Francis recalls his early years and his calling to the priesthood. Finally, there are quotations from others about Pope Francis - from those well acquainted with the Pope, to leaders, writers, and everyday people who have been inspired by Pope Francis.
Whether you are seeking his words for inspiration or guidance, comfort or strength, "Pope Francis: His Essential Wisdom"is a moving collection that you will turn to again and again.
I recently had the extreme pleasure of visiting Italy with my Grandson, who sang in the Mater Dei High School Choir during our tour of Italy. The country is wonderful. Unlike the USA the Italians accept people as they are with friendship and blessings. I have never in my 76 years heard so many "God Bless You" as I merely walked down their streets and visited their Chapels and also got to see The Pope during his Wednesday audience. The Choir sang for him and we were all very blessed by him. I feel he was indeed sent by God to encourage people to get back to their Faith and love of God and each other. I have read the complete book but keep it by my bedside in order to find peace in many of the pages.
I’ve been a fan of Pope Francis for years, so I was excited to read this. The format makes it easy to reference, and I appreciated the pictures and chronology. I don’t agree with everything the late Pope said, but I do like the variety of topics this book covers. I think it’s noting how well this book has aged, making it a sort of evidence of the consistency of Bergoglio’s character.
This is for the weary. The spiritually hungry. The empty-hearted.
Or also for the happy. For the complete, for the ones who always thank and praise God everyday.
Each quote holds a bit of truth applicable to the modern times. This is not just purely Catholic, I think even people of other religions will agree to some.
This book will make you stop, think, and reflect. About faith. Family. Agape love. About you. Your relationship with God. Your relationship with the people around you.
This is easily one of my favorite books to read and re-read.
This is the most inspirational and spiritual book I ever read.
This book is about faith, reflection, family, and a relationship with God. Each quote inspires and make you think and rethink your life. It's about love. I highly recommend it.
