Jett and his next-door neighbor Natalie have been having a hot fling for a few weeks, but Jett is ready for more. And yet, everytime he tries to get more from Natalie, she avoids it. He finally ties her to his bed and forces the talk (literally) while seducing her. Although Natalie is reluctant, she finally agrees to taking it to the next step...maybe dating or getting to know each other out of the bedroom. But Jett invites himself on Natalie's spring break vacation, which Natalie doesn't necessarily mind because she gets Jett's bedroom skills all week, but she's afraid that it'll open her up to more intimacy and more risk of heartbreak.
Hmm. Not my favorite. Jett is entirely too pushy about getting what HE wants and not respecting what Natalie wants. Apparently Jett knows better what is best for Natalie. So since Natalie won't participate in the conversation willingly, he seduces her into allowing handcuffs to the bed and then while he's making love to her he insists on the conversation, using sex and her own arousal to get the answers he wants. And when she figures out what he's doing and tells him to get off/out of her...he doesn't. I did not like that particular scene because it made me uncomfortable about how willing he was to respect her boundaries. Then the way he invites himself on to her spring break was just entirely too presumptuous...like he was trying to force their relationship to the next level instead of letting Natalie get their gradually. Granted, this is a novella and he didn't have forever to get to where he wanted, but he was like a bulldozer just going right through her concerns. He even subjected her to the attention of his sisters when she was clearly uncomfortable about meeting his family and how it was likely to be interpreted by them. He was completely insensitive to those concerns and afterwards he admits to himself that he's not sure he likes that his sisters are now thinking that they're probably going to get married, because even he isn't sure he wants to go that far. So...he basically admits that he pushed Natalie completely out of her relationship comfort zone and he isn't even sure he's in it for the long haul. That didn't help me with liking him very much...
As it was, I did mostly like Natalie and especially liked the presence of the lost little dog that they found. Also, this was a quick and easy read and wasn't hard to get through once we get past Jett's serious transgressions in the beginning. Once they actually head off for their vacation, he gets a bit more likeable (probably because he's already gotten what he wanted).
