I read Natalie Palmer's first book Second Kiss and thought it was a cute if somewhat twee romance. Gemma and Jess act entirely too young for their age but I still thoroughly enjoyed the saccharine the two were spewing.
When I found out there was a sequel to the book I thought "yea!" but also, um. . why? The first book seemed to end neatly and I was enjoying their HEA in Romancelandia.
The kindle price was a shocking $8.99 but after reading the sample chapter I knew I was hooked.
I'll admit, Palmer's writing is candy. It's sweet and bad for you in large doses but makes you happy momentarily. They act like typical teenagers with nothing cartoonish or crazy. Gemma (thou a bit Mary Sue) reacts to a lot of situations in ways i think i would have as a teenager, making her relatable and likeable, I was ready to finish the book with a smirky smile only to fall upon the last chapter.
A F*cking Cliffhanger. A cliffhanger that Does Not Belong In This Book. I swear that the author didn't even write the last chapter. I was nonplussed about the weird abrupt ending. This seemingly sweet little YA all the sudden turned into this weird thriller/mystery in the last chapter. I kept frantically tapping at the end of my kindle thinking, THIS IS NOT HAPPENING, but it was! It abruptly ends, leaving all the characters in limbo. It was such a clear and Desperate attempt to strong arm the reader into reading the next book. I've already paid for more than the cost of a mmpb but now you're going to not finish the story!!!
if you have the patience of a saint, then go ahead, read this book. if you hate manipulative attempts to make readers buy follow up books don't bother with this read, it'll make you angry.

Great story! I first found an ebook of Second Kiss on the net and i loved it. I couldn't stop thinking about the whole book. I had a book hangover. Then Natalie sent a message that said there was a sequel. And it's this, Second to No One. I never stopped looking for it. I was so excited to read it. I was dying from not hearing about Jess and Gemma's lives. It's great. It's clean. It's romantic enough to make your tummy do somersaults!

I had to re-read Second Kiss because it had been so long since I read it that I couldn't remember what happened.
I really wanted to like this one as much as the first but it kinda fell short for me. Gemma just made me angry through out the entire book. She was really quite childish and I'm glad she gradually matured as the book went on but not fast enough. There was so much teen angst in this one that it became too much. Gemma made so many immature decisions that I wanted to shake her. I get that she's a teenager and we've all been there but reading in her POV just made me want to hit her. Her ridiculous ways of handling situations were insane and then her anger when it backfired made me disliker her even more. I know that she has faults as we all do but she was so selfish and self absorbed.
Jess was still a very likeable character and honestly I didn't think Gemma deserved him at all and I kind of wondered what he did see in her. He was still the gallant all around good guy that you can't help but love. He made the book better for me in every scene he was in.
I'm disappointed because I thought the first book was so cute and their friendship made me sigh with wistfulness. Yes after re-reading it I realize there was a lot of teen angst in it but the friendship between Jess and Gemma made me forget all that. Unfortunately Gemma was a total idiot and their friendship didn't save the book for me this time.
Too much misunderstanding and miscommunications were really frustrating.
Don't get me wrong there were parts that I did enjoy, her interactions with her dad were really sweet. No doubt that Natalie Palmer is a talented writer but I just wish this wasn't written like a bad teen movie. Where the first book was sweet for the soul, this one not so much.
I thought the first book ended nicely and was happily surprised that there would be a second one, until I read it. What I wasn't prepared for was the abrupt ending and get ready for it.......CLIFFHANGER! WTH!!
Will I read the next one? Maybe....only if Gemma isn't a total tool!

People say Gemma is overreacting and that is why they hate this sequel but they forget that she's fifteen-sixteen years old, teenagers do those things at that age, we do crazy things without thinking twice and we hurt to people we love and we get hurt.
A year and a half ago, my friend fell in love with her best friend but he was taken, besides he hurts her feelings multiple times: my other friends and I we were tired of hear from him and we stop caring about their broken friendship. I think that's how the reader feel when they're reading about how dumb Gemma has becoming in the sequel so they stop caring about the book.
Well, that final was unexpected and so awesome, I want more.

Fun second book in this trilogy. Sometimes I wanted to shake Gemma, but I could relate to her flawed thinking since I’ve been a teenage girl before. Haha. And I definitely did not see the end coming.

Her friends are an interesting group of kids. They play a large role in how she views life and moving along the plot. I can now see why Natalie Palmer titled the book Second to No One. The ending left me dumbfounded and looking forward to reading the next book.

I read a similar opinion by another reviewer: the last chapter of the book/cliffhanger feels like it was written by a completely different person, for a completely different genre. Be prepared. It doesn't make sense... although now that I think of it there may have been the merest hint of foreshadowing. It honestly feels like the publisher asked for a third book at the very last minute, and she had to figure out a way to keep the story going. Hence, a complete "??????" ending and events that cheapen the earlier feels you get from reading this book.
(Palmer does an excellent job of building relationships. I adored the father daughter relationship she created, the imperfect relationship with her mother, and the other relationships Gemma forms with various adults. There is character growth! No boring unchanging Mary Sues here. Those interactions and realizations on Gemma's part make this book worth reading. The ending is just unfortunate.)

I was not aware that this was a second in a trilogy, but I still liked it a lot. As far as the middle of a trilogy it was nicely paced. Gemma is super happy to be with Jess in the beginning but her insecurities get the better of her and a whole year of heartache and misunderstandings take place. I like how Gemma grew and how she started to look for ways to help others and to not think of herself so much. The plot was dragging a bit before the end but the ending was really well done with a nice surprise to keep you going for the next book. No language, No sex ( a session of spin the bottle) and No violence.

And the first book was so perfect!! The book disappointed me. Seriously. But, i won't lie, i enjoy a half of it.

Esperaba tanto de este libro, que fue horrible leer en lo que se convirtió. Ni siquiera pude terminar de leerlo, odie a Jess & su estúpido estamos muy jóvenes pero saldré con alguien más & el drama desde que empieza el libro ushh!!! Odio tanto drama le quita a la historia la esencia. No se me decepcionó mucho & el final peor lo siento pero después de haber esperado tanto que la autora saliera con algo así me deja con un mal sabor de boca

I love this book so much. I have been waiting for a development in their relationship and the author made it so much better. In the first half of the book I find it predictable but as the story goes on I just can't believe the events especially the ending. I hate cliffhangers but I made an exception this time because I don't want Jess and Gemma's story to end. I just got attached to them :) i also love that sweet and jealous scenes that we all may have experienced during our teenage years.

Damn them cliffhangers!! This book was way more intense and crazy than the first. In this book the true feelings surface and Gemma and Jess's relationship and friendship really develop. After seeing through different perspectives, Gemma realizes what's bet for her.
I cannot wait for the next book to come out!! Am I the only one who thinks Lauren set fire to Jess's home? If this is the case I bet the thoughts running through her mind, "Karma's a bitch."

I loved every inch of it!!! I literally hung on every word, and sometimes, I had to read some paragraphs over and over. I didn't want to read too fast and let the whole Gemma and Jess drama pass me by...I wanted to experience the book.Slowly. :D This sequel is really great and I can hardly wait for the next part ( I sincerely hope there is another part)

May 5, 2014I love Jess and Gemma's relationship. They're no ordinary couple at all, I tell you. It's so enticing to keep on reading, even if I had my doubts about Jess and Gemma getting back the relationship what used to be theirs. Or even more to that.

Another good & clean life & romance YA story! I liked it better than the first one. I couldnt set it down. Probably because she is older and less whiny. Doesn't remove massive drama and relationship problems from not communicating. But warning this is NOT the last book (like I thought). It has a cruel ending too since I don't think the 3rd bk is even written!

An excellent second book for Natalie Palmer. I loved Jess and Gemma. Natalie did a great job of writing for a teenage voice. Gemma needed to find her self in this book and she did. What I wasn't expecting was the ending. Wow! I'm eagerly waiting for book 3.

The moment I finished Second Kiss I immediately read Second to No One. While reading the synopsis I had second thoughts whether to read the book because I know this will be an emotional read but I don't know I still read it! And the only thing I can say is, damn. I need the third book. Now!
