Enough already, the writing just repeats itself constantly, I think to get the required maximum number of words he needs in a book to get published so he can make more money because you will have to buy the next book to see if the main characters got through their next ordeal and there will always be a next ordeal for them it seems. I have already bought the next book in this over long series and I see that there is a new one just out with still no end in site, so number 10 is my last one. I am tired of reading this too long epic of trials and tribulations that are so far fetched even the most vivid imagination has a hard time believing. I think he just writes gibberish and thinks that is fine, the fight scenes are just too unbelievable even for fantasy, you just shake your head. The spell check seems to be used a little more often now but still he needs a proof reader to fix his many grammatical mistakes. Enough Morgan, kill them off or let them live happily ever after, but put this series to rest.
I was a little worried because the last one seemed to be improving, but this one was pretty bad again, so yay! It is very much like passing an accident on the freeway, you can't not look.
It ended with one of the most gigantic Duh! moments I think I have ever read. Did anyone not see that coming like 3 books ago? Pretty much since Alistar was introduced? (And it is totally a boy's name. Wasn't there a nice girl's name somewhere you could have used?)

The destiny sword once again is traversing the lands quicker than Andronicus can kill, while hero’s are in pursuit, others are left to a fierce battle that will change the course of history, for better or for worse they have no choice but to succeed. Revenge, death and victory lie in wait, but these are no only in store for the villains but for our valiant warriors. Thor is forced to make a decision that he is unable to control while Qwendolyn, I fear has made a wrong one... again, aren’t they a bunch. Erec, Kendrick, Bronson and Godfrey, back together again and stuck in between two invading forces. Mycoples fighting for her life while others poke and prod her under an inescapable net. Their futures hang in the balance by a thread and one of them will be cut by fate. With an ending where we finally find out what Alistair’s secret is, after 3 books I must add, is one cliffhanger I was not prepared for.
Okay. I like this series..or liked. Books 1 - 6 were great but about now I'm just saying to myself: "OMG! Please be the last one! How does it end? I want it to end!!!" I know for a fact that is at least one more book. Please, Please Morgan Rice - wrap it up and finish it already. It's good reading but how much can happen to these people?
Another enjoyable installment in the series. I have the bundle, 7, 8, 9 but wanted to write a review for #8. As usual, it is filled with battles, magic and imaginative lands and creatures and though there are impossible situations and releases from them, it is still engaging.
I do like the general style of writing but it is in need of editing and proofreading for numerous errors. There is too much repetition. However, the descriptions are good, thoughts and feelings give an in-depth feel to character development and the plot is forever twisting.
All the books could be longer, especially for the price, but it does seem that money-making is at the root of this. I am surprised that the standard of writing is acceptable to Amazon as they continually say that high standards are important.
Nevertheless, I do think that this series is worth reading, if somewhat annoying as regards to poor editing. I wonder if I will afford to carry on with it, yet Thor's story is intriguing.
In the eighth installment of Morgan Rice's The Sorcerer's Ring saga, Andronicus and his minion Rafi attempt to crush the soul and identity of the captive Thorgrin. Meanwhile, his love Gwendolyn and others venture into the Netherworld in search of Argon. Furthermore, Reece leads his own entourage into the Canyon to retrieve the lost Destiny Sword. Moreover, Romulus, wearing a magical cloak, seeks to destroy the Shield protecting the Ring and effect his own sinister plans. Titus and Luanda also learn the effects of their treason. As with its predecessors, this entry opens with a Shakepeare quote, in this instance from Richard III.
The story opens with Gwen and her companions at the Canyon, ready to go across the Northern Crossing, although things quickly take a turn. Reece and his own entourage seek to brave the Canyon, as well, by determining how long it descends and if it eventually bottoms out. Meanwhile, Kendrick and Godfrey continue to battle forces of the Empire, whilst Thorgrin, going by the name Thornicus, serves Andronicus and the Empire thanks to the sorcerer Rafi's mental manipulation. The story culminates in a major plot twist at the end, and while the story derives from Star Wars and the author could have thought of another name for a city other than Highlandia, it's still a worthwhile experience.
For young adult readers, this book is a tidal wave of adventure, battles and twists. For an adult reader, it feels like Rice just throws a monkey wrench into things to stretch out the length of the series. This is one thing I don't like about many series. Rice does a great job of giving you characters that seem real and you can care about. I've become disengaged from them mostly because I feel the series has taken some turns that are solely to extend the number of books required to arrive at a happy ending. They seem to fit the characters, yes, so it's still good story construction. Rice is a professional author to the core. The "twist" at the end of this book was one I had been predicting for the past two books. It has been done before. It is almost worse than the revealing of Thor's father in an earlier installment. "Luke, I am your father." Yep. It's been done - on the big screen before millions. I prefer more originality in my plot complications. Having said that, book 9 of the series is ready to read on my Kindle the next time I mount the treadmill. Yes, I've fallen into the trap of the series.
I read this book and had to get the other 16 in the series. I just could not put it down. Some days i read for 8 hours straight. What a great fantasy ride. So much is happening in these books but the author writes it so it is easy to follow, like several little stories happening in one book. The characters I found to visualize, like and or dislike quickly. Descriptions were intense and in depth enough to make me feel as I were there in the story as a character myself.
If you like action, romance, fantasy, magic, castles, knights, battles of good and evil and valor then you will love this series. There is gruesome killing but the author does not go into a deep description and make it gory. There is great love and romance but nothing even pg rated. Lots of fantasy but not to extravagant. It amazes me how creative this author is and I constantly wondered "what in the world will happen next?".
To me a perfect story, a perfect read, and i think it would make a great movie! Reminded me a bit of the "Lord of the Rings. I would highly recommend this series and this author to anyone that even considers these mixed genres.
First off I am a big fan of this series. Morgan Rice actually told me that this will be an ongoing series with no end in sight which is absolutely great news. However I now begin to feel a niggle, because especially in this book there are way to many storylines cramped into this books. For books that are not that long (200-300 pages) compared to other epic fantasy series these are great, but because they are so short I feel as though there should be less storylines to follow. You don't get such a great experience from each character because of the alotted time. Please for the upcoming books if they are the same length reduce the number of different storylines. With that said it was still a fantastic read. I bought it the morning and finished well before lunch. It picks up where the previous one left off with Thor in enemy hands, Gwen looking for Argon to rescue Thor, Reece search for the sword and the continuation of the war from 3 different perspectives (See too many!). It does in fact leave us with the biggest cliffhanger ending to date...
In this episode Morgan continue her superb story. This episode starts with Thorgrin under control of black magic, fighting at the side of his father, against his friends from the ring. In the mean time, Gwendolyn is in a quest to rescue Argon, the only one with power enough to save Thorgrin and the Ring. Reece goes to the bottom of the canyon in order to try to retrieve the Sword of Destiny. Packed with action, this book will keep you entertained for hours. And there is not an idle moment until you turn the last page! Get ready for another very entertaining episode of this incredible saga. You will not get tired of following Thor, Gwendolyn and all our heroes in this new episode. Just be aware that in order to savor every moment of this episode, I recommend that you start reading from the first episode to better understand the dynamics among the characters, as well as have a full idea on the environment of the story.
December 15, 2024: I agree with my original review that Andronicus has grown tiresome and I'm ready for a new bad guy. I'm getting just a tad bored with the constant peril the main characters are always finding themselves in.
2020: Enjoyed. Ready to move onto a new bad guy, Andronicus has lost his appeal.
Pierwsza różnica to język.
Kolejna kwestia to fabuła.
This picks up immediately following the previous book. The religious undertones are no longer undertones, they are blatant. The plot armor is almost comical. And the only characters that I care about currently are Kendrick, the dragon, and the leopard.
Ok, I am done with Thornicus, the Dynasty Sword being brought back and taken away again, and anything that has to do with Luanda. Can we move on please?
On the other hand, I really like the development of Godfrey's character. I just love how he always ends up saving the day with his unorthodox ideas. And I am not sure how I feel about Alistair being Thor's sister. That is a very dysfunctional family if you ask me.
I am hoping that the next book can bring back everything I loved about this series, which has been missing from the last couple of books.
Ok. I have been really enjoying this series and really enjoying them. But this book seemed to just drag along with no reason in places. I kept feeling like it was over for the characters only to find they revive and find themselves in a worse spot yet. Some things just seemed out of place like Romulus crossing the Eastern Ring in a day while Selese takes what seems to be weeks to travel the same distance. And then the book ends with me wondering how it could have finished so abruptly with no sort of conclusion?
This might have been a readable series if the self published author had a decent editor to pull her up for the plot holes, dodgy timelines, implausible battles, repetitive action that cycled around to ensure series continuation. Then there are the typos. It’s a shame really as the young readers it is supposed to cater for deserve better. I forgave much in the first three books, then I started skipping, got this far then threw in the towel. Reading blurbs for the later books and the 1 and 2 star reviews confirmed that was the right decision.
This is a fantastic series! Some really interesting characters, I’m not typically a fantasy fan. But this series has my attention. I think I’ll be on a binge now to get through the series! There are some things that drive me nuts about this series such as repetition of events and it seems like there might be a lot of cut and paste happening. But overall a great series!
Fantasy novel full of repetitive redundancies; more Deus Ex Machina than I've seen in any other dozen series combined; awful, juvenile dialogue; and dozens of frantic characters running all over the place, none of whom I care about one whit. Oy.
Nothing really to add other than my usual complaint about editing etc. I suppose I'll continue down this long and seemingly winding road just to see where it ends up. I actually am wondering if anyone is reading these reviews.....remember - YOU guys ask for them!
As great as the rest of the series drawing me in and keeping me enthralled and entered as a good book should do. I have loved this series from the start and can't wait to read the next book. I am glad that it is now offered in the three box sets which makes reading and buying my books so easy.
As with this entire series, the quality of writing suffers tremendously. The story itself isn't bad, the characters are average and the adventures are cookie cutter. I'm not sure why I've continued reading through the 8th book, but there seems to be just enough to keep me going.
great as always for Morgan Rice. starting book 9 . at the end of each book there is a total surprise. The surprise ending in this one was a total shock, but in a good way.
Sorcery has become superior to even the most ancient of magics. The ups and downs, twists and turns of the plot are amazing, and the strength of character of Thor's friends is proven in so many ways.
