About the author

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

Cute little story, but I still need Sparkle's full length novella and Blue playing a big role in it.

[Mindy Lou's Book Review]

This was definitely worth the read. Very heartwarming!

[Steven]

I very much enjoyed this shorty, and would like to see more of Talu and Sina!

2nd read - September 2020

I absolutely loved this short, it's about a young homeless girl, Talu, who finds one of Aodhan's bronze fairies and how that brings her into contact with Elena and the Tower.

A really sweet story that brought tears to my eyes!

[The Cats’ Mother]

A short story from her Newsletter collection, about a homeless teenager living on the streets of New York who finds a special friend.
I only read the first book in the Guild Hunter series before deciding they weren’t for me, but this was a sweet little re-entry into that world.

[Maria Dimitrova]

Lovely and a bit heartbreaking story set in the Guild Hunter universe. I met Talu before - I read another short story with her set a few months after this one - so I knew how this will end. But even knowing there's a happy ending for her I still felt my heart clench reading the first couple of scenes. It was totally worth reading as it shows a side of Honor and Elena that we rarely get to see in the main books. And it made me love them all even more.

[Alexandra]

I wonder if this sweet Talu will meet Aodhan...

[Lover of Romance]

This story was so darling. We get a fun interaction with Elena and the value of learning.

[Melissa]

A great little stand alone fairy tale set in this world.

[Darcy]

There was so much to love about this one, the little girl being the best! I liked how she fought to do what was important to her mom and to her. Was so glad when a guardian angel found her to help make her life easier!

[Beth]

Moving snippet of life in Elena's city from the pov of a runaway.

[Aly is so frigging bored]

It was so sweet. It also made me cry

[Paraphrodite]

A short but good story.

[Marianne]

A sweet short about Talu; an orphaned girl, a fairy figurine, hope - and her entry into the world of angels and vampires. Talu's story continues in Fairy Balloons. (2016 October newsletter.)

[Merve Özcan Özkan]

Aaa Talu'yla burada karşılaşıyormuşuz. Niye tersten başladıysam. -_- Ama hep farklı hikayeler veriyor, nereden bileyim bağlantılı olacağını.

4 Stars... In this short story, we are introduced to Talu, a young mortal living on the dangerous streets of New York... Although she has the determination of a warrior, she has the heart and soul of a dreamer... We watch as she traverses her daily life and shares her vision for her future only to be potentially deterred by violence... In steps Elena and Honor as they offer Talu a chance at safety, happiness, and friendship:)

THIS WAS SO HEARTBREAKING AND HEARTWARMING AT THE SAME TIME!! 🥺❤️

Love learning about Talu and how rough she has had it in her life and how Elena helped her and took care of her!!
So beautiful and heart wrenching! 💕

[Brianna]

This was an interesting story involving a teen girl living on the streets to escape her aunt and the things she was going to let vampires do to her niece. We got to see Elena rescue her, and learn about a program Honor had started to get kids off the streets. Loved the hopeful message.

[Debrac2014]

Good reread!

[Kristi]

I loved this one. Such a sweet little fairytale

[Crystal]

I loved this short story but boy was it sad. Definitely one that I would have loved to have made into a longer story

[Hina Tabassum Khatri]

I loved this short story. There is hope in this one. Everything you read about Talu, you see hope looking at you.

This one scene with Aodhan's feather makes me think that Talu is going to grow up to be the woman for Aodhan. She is currently only 14 but a decade in a mortal's life is just a day in that of an immortal but I have a really strong feeling about this.

[Noemi]

I'm really curious to see how Talu's story will develop.

A Small Fairy Tale on Books On Track

A hopeful short story about a street kid named Talu who found one of Aodhan's "sparks of laughter", aka small carved fairies he left all over town, whom she named Sina.

When a junkie tried to steal Sina from her, Talu fought back and caught the attention of Elena, who rescued Talu and then took her to the Tower and a new life.

Despite the short length of the story, Talu was a very vivid character and I look forward to seeing her again.

[Saphia]

Ooooh that definitly seems like a big hint that Aodhan and Talu (when she grows up) will get together. Theres quite a few hints like her finding a fairy made by him, finding his feather and seeing a falling star streak across the sky... which I'm assuming is Aodhan.
I wish we got his book now though!!!!!

[Airaseem]

I love that Nalini took the time to write this story. It was heart warming and it was a great point of view. I love it!
