This guide to Germany's vibrant capital offers information on: the renovated Reichstag; the new-look Potsdamer Platz; and the re-organization of the state museums. It also offers listings of accommodation, restaurants, retail opportunities, and clubs and bars.
I read the 1992 edition, so obviously transit tickets and museum opening times were 25 years out of date, but I’d still massively recommend this book for visitors to Berlin as it is written in the context of a freshly reunified Germany, and gives a frank and honest assessment of Berlin’s tumultuous 20th century.
Includes insights into the challenges of reunification including an unsolved question of abortion rights, the rise of neo-fascism (which streets to avoid in 1992) and the issues of data gathered on citizens by the Stasi (with a concern that people would retaliate against informants).
