Rachel Madbury lives in southern New Hampshire with her adopted coonhound, Gus, and too many plants to count. She writes paranormal and romantic suspense stories where the ending is always happy and the love is always worth fighting for.
Forbidden starts out at a steamy pace and keeps it going. A great read if you like ideas for "playtime" with a bit of mystery in the storyline. Alex's past catches up to him and Grace in ways you want to cringe at and yet eagerly read as they work through it. I'm still on the hook to find out what the heck is going on with her house. Is it haunted? I don't know yet! And I like it that way. Who wants a good novel series to end fast? No one. The ending takes you from happy to holy crap in a way that leaves you asking for the next novel. Good thing Novel 3 Forgotten is already published!
Past pain, old secrets, and new hope. The road to happiness is paved with doubts, fears and finally truths. They must ease old burdens by accepting new truth. But, just when joy shows it's face, more horror comes knocking!
I am so invested that I have to continue. I love this couple even when I don't like their actions.
So many ups and downs! Grace and Alex have so much love for each other but somebody for not want to see them together!! Does it go back to Grace's mother and why she abandoned her family? I'm dying to find out and will continue to read on... love this series
Because you can't have one without the other my review is about both books.
Forsaken (The Surrender Series #1) Rachel Madbury ✰✰✰✰
Grace Snow is stunned to find that the mother who left when she was 7 has passed away and left her a house in Maine. Grace has no idea why her mother left, so she heads to Maine to see if she can find the answers she so desperately wants. When she gets there she finds the house in need of serious repairs and upgrades so she hires a local construction company to get the job done. Alexander Cole is a bit of a mystery. He keeps to himself and he throws himself into his work and he plans to keep things the way they are. That is until he comes face to face Grace. He does his best to stay away from her but he is finding it impossible. It doesn’t take long before the two come together, but Alex has a secret and it’s a big secret, he knows that if Grace ever finds out she won’t want to be with him but that doesn’t stop him from being with her. Grace can see that there is something going on with Alex but he won’t open to her and it’s causing them serious issues in their relationship. Things come to a head when the pair are jumped in an alley outside of an art museum and Alex’s past starts to come to light.
Forbidden (The Surrender Series #2) ✰✰✰✰
Forbidden picks up right where Forsaken left off, Alex’s secret is out and a strange visit from a woman in his past to Grace, makes Alex angry but it also seems to be a pivotal point in the pairs rocky relationship. But just as things are calming down more strange things begin to happen at Grace’s house. Dead birds left all over her yard and in her kitchen sink lead Alex to call in security for Grace. It seems as though everything leads back to Grace’s mom. Grace and Alex are still having issues, he is doing everything in his power to protect the woman he has fallen in love with all while dealing his past. Being in love isn’t easy but when faced with Alex’s dark past and the mystery surrounding Grace’s mom it makes it even harder. Can these two people who love each other so much finally learn to trust themselves and each other? Who is behind the threats to Grace? What happened to Grace’s mom? Will Alex ever be able to get out from the stigma of his past? This is a suspenseful yet sexy read. You can’t really know who is a friend and who is the enemy and things really start to heat up between our couple and you can feel the passion. I really enjoyed Grace and Alex and it’s amazing to watch them over come so much, Grace’s trust issues, the horrible crime that Alex was accused of years ago. They are working hard to be a couple and you can see the love from the start. Their journey is not easy but they keep working at it. It’s the mystery of Grace’s mom that keeps you on the edge of your seat. You want to know why she would just leave her husband and daughter and why did she hide anything personal in a place that could only be found by doing major construction? And there’s Alex’s past. The fact that he has no memory of what happened 10 years ago, it keeps coming up and it left me wondering about what really happened on that fateful night? I can’t tell you what the answers are because I don’t know all of them. This book ends in another cliff hanger and it is explosive! I will be waiting for the next book so I can get the answers I want.
When I finished the first book in this series, I was blow away. It had gotten under my skin and left a book hangover that took a while to shake. Jumping back into Graciella and Alexander’s story was a like lining myself up for a slap, I knew it was going to hurt but did it anyway because I just had to get another fix from this pair. And boy did they deliver – they pack a punch! Now that Graciella knows the secrets that Alexander tried so desperately to keep from her, there is nothing that will stand in her way from protecting not only him but what they have together. It is her mission to ensure that his past is confined, exorcised to the furthest recesses of their existence but is it? And more to the point is that all they have to worry about?...I think not! My heart went out to the pair of them, their lives were blighted by events that are beyond their control but when things begin to get a little too close for comfort it is Alexander that takes the bull by the horns and puts everything he can into not only keeping the love of his life out of harm’s way but also trying to work out what the heck is going on and what happened to Graciella’s mother. The story wore it’s mystery and danger like mist lingering on the moors, it shrouded them almost permanently, only occasionally lifting to reveal tantalising glimpses of what they seem to be battling to keep…a love that was so busy facing its demons head on that it seemed to be constantly blindsided by forces that seem to thrive living in the shadows. Graciella and Alexander were strong characters and because of that their story was able to spring off the page. They were engaging and realistic but they weren’t perfect, they had their flaws. But this is the story of a journey, a voyage of intimacy, to discover the truth about themselves and what they can have together, it was all about two damaged souls learning that together they can heal, they can love and they can live. It was about giving their hearts the opportunity to breath and watching their story take shape. The ending was not what I had thought it was going to be and that is not a bad thing, it just means that I am now itching to get my hands on the next book. If asked to recommend a new author Rachel would be one that would easily find her way to the tip of my tongue, this may only be her second novel but she has an artistry and flair that will keep you completely captivated.
After reading Forsaken book 1 in the Surrender Series I couldn't wait to get started on Forbidden to continue Graciella and Alexander's story and was not disappointed.
The whole time Graciella was getting to know Alexander he had a secret. She could never have known just how much his past, and the truth about who he really is, would change everything between them. But now that his secret has been revealed Grace is more determined than ever to keep his ghosts from haunting them any longer.
But it’s not just his past they’ve got to contend with…
When more unexplainable occurrences shatter the newfound peace of Grace’s coastal home Alexander goes to great lengths, and takes drastic steps, to try and ensure her safety as they continue to unravel the mystery of what happened to her mother in that same house so many years ago.
I really enjoyed this book, watching the development and growth of Graciellas and Alex's relationship after the truth comes out about Alex's past and how they try to over come the obstacless placed in front of them, as well as the continuing threat against Graciella made for an addictive read.
The character's and plotline, had depth, flowed and left me wanting more.
Would recommend and will look forward to the continuation of this series.

Picking up right where Forsaken ends, Forbidden not only further explores the dynamics to Graciella and Alexander's relationship after his secret is out, but also who is terrorizing Graciella. Alexander does everything possible to keep Graciella protected from unseen threats while struggling to keep his business afloat. Forbidden is a bit on the heavy side with sex scenes. I would have liked to see Alex and Grace actually solve a few problems outside of the bedroom for a change. Physically their relationship is stronger than ever. Emotionally they're still a bit immature and have a ways to go to resolve that aspect. Overall, this was an okay read for me. I wish there was more detail given on Grace's mother and the surrounding mystery and I definitely wish there was more emotional growth between Grace and Alex. I highly recommend reading Forsaken before picking up this book. Forbidden does end on another cliffhanger, however, Book 3-Forgotten- is due to release in Spring 2016. I received copies of Forsaken and Forbidden from the author in exchange for an honest review. Julie-Alphas Do It Better Book Blog
Graciella and Alex begin their relationship anew. After the truth comes out about Alex's past, he starts to begin to trust himself again. For him this is the beginning of his new life with Graciella.
There is still a threat against Graciella, but Alex knows he can protect her. With one phone call, they both have protection from the unknown.
Being able to see the relationship grow with these two characters, brings an endless supply of love. When they are faced with how some react to Alex's past, the loyalty and strength for one another puts a smile on your face. With each learning to trust the other, their life seems to be on the right track. But with the threat against Graciella, they will be put to the ultimate test.
When the threat becomes more prudent, there will be more questions with no answers, but I can't wait to read the next book. This book builds anticipation and an appreciation for all that matters with two characters learning how to love and trust.
The ending was not something I anticipated, but I cannot wait for the next book!
This is the first time reading anything by Ms Madbury and I really enjoyed this story. Alexander and Grace totally belong together ever after she finding out about his truth ,not many women would of stay with him but Grace did. He beat himself up for many years for them truths ,but Grace is still able to see through everything from beginning and she seems to be helping him to become himself after he suffered for so many years .Grace has done nothing but showed him love and kindness , but he still hasn't let her in. But poor Grace is also broken herself and has some reservations , but Alex 's tries to help her get whole again and all he wants is for her to let him in . And he knows that she that be happy again. The problem is their both want to protect the other, just like ever married couple wants to do . The author has given us a great story with strong characters and a story line that flow smoothly with good depth .I could go on and tell you more about this story but that would spoil the story for you. I highly recommend that you read this story , because you won't be disappointed.
This was the first time I've read anything by this author, and I'm so glad I did. Alexander and Grace belong together. Even though he had secrets that he's been beating himself up for years, Grace loves him enough to stick with him. He's suffered for so many years that Grace is like medicine for his soul. But Grace has her own issues that have broken her. Will Alexander and Grace be able to truly let each other in to heal together?
The character development is great, and they are strong with depth while slowly learning to trust each other. A well written story line flows very smoothly. Rachel Madbury does an excellent job writing in twists and turns that I never saw coming, on top of the emotional angst that seeped out of my kindle. All the obstacles in Alexander and Grace's way, made this story almost impossible to put down, and I CANNOT wait for the next book! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Grace and Alexander belong together, not many women would stay after finding out Alex's truths. He beat himself up for these truths for years and even though they are not true he still treats himself as they are, but Grace is able to see through this from the beginning and is helping him become himself again after ten long years of pain and suffering. She shows him kindness and love and that everything can be good again if he would just believe in himself and let her in. She is broken as well and has her reservations, but he shows her that she can be whole again and happy if she lets him in. All they want to do it protect and help each other, and through love I can see that happening. I really hope there is a third book to this series so I can see more of these two, I fell in love with them and feel like I could be Chloe, without the artistic abilities.
After we learn the truth about Alex's past which I was shocked at, at the end off book we 1, we see Grace stand by her man. And I am glad that she did, though I think it would have been hard given his past, but I love how they are together.
This book sees them plagued obstacle after obstacle that is trying to come between them, we see them love and protect each other and with the mystery surrounding Grace's mother, this is book that I couldn't get enough off!
Rachel Madbury is a new to me author and she has done a fantastic job with this series, the characters, the plot the whole shebang!
I loved this second book. I think it was the best book out of the three books currently in the series. I loved the writing and the characters. Definitely a great new series for anyone to dive into.
