Kazune Kawahara (河原和音) made her manga debut at age 18 with Kare no Ichiban Sukina Hito (His Most Favorite Person). Also, while thinking of her manga, she often spaces out and brings grocery baskets home. Adores her nieces.
Three things happen in volume ten, finally. Ichinose the baker who sees Rinko as his "muse" wins his contest, makes a play for her again, and this "jealousy" arc is resolved, predictably. The third event is a bro-convo between Takeo and Suna, where Takeo, having resolved to be less dependent on Suna for decision-making, also becomes isolated from him. Thus Suna is a bit lonely! So they figure this out and commit to being bff, whew!
Third, maybe the most interesting issue, is Takeo's urge to touch Yamato! We are in volume ten, after all! Maybe a little touching might be appropriate?! Suna doesn't know how to advise his friend on this issue, but Takeo is resolved not to be a typical groping pervert. Rinko, however, would like to be touched a little, we find out. So what can we expect in volume 11?! Overall, this continues at a high level of cuteness/sweetness.
Re-reading for the first time in nearly nine years, and this is still one of my favorite manga series.
This time a romantic rivalry is resolved, a friendship is celebrated, a school festival is attended, hormones kick in, and a school trip is in the offing.
As always, the stories are best when Takeo gets to fly his hero flag or spend time with his best friend, Makoto Sunakawa.
I'm a firm member of Team Ai, but this second read-through -- and this volume specifically -- helps me comes to terms with the viewpoint of Team Rinko.
Re-read 2021: YAS the Ichinose arc is finally over. THANK THE LORD. PRAISE ALL. Sorry, but again, Ichinose is just horrible. :| So I am glad that is gone. Done. And that we can now move to other things. Like the school festival at Rinko's school which had me laughing. Takeo in police uniform, helping around, Rinko constantly swooning, haha. There is also some Suna bonding as these guys have a conversation they should have had some time ago. The touching stuff? Still find it a bit weird/off just like when I read this manga first. I mean, it is natural to want to touch someone you like/love and Takeo just made such a big deal out of it that he even hurt Rinko as she was just so utterly confused by it all. He suddenly didn't want to hold hands, reacted weird. Just talk, just do it. Give her a hug. She doesn't mind it. I loved her reaction to him calling her by her first name. Rinko! SO cute!
=========================
Oh nooooo, only 3 more volumes to go. :(
Finally we are through this arc that started 2 volumes ago. It never was one of my favourites, and it never will be. That baking guy should just have gotten the hint already, but oh no, mister tough guy had to fight for something that he knew was a lost cause. Rinko loves Takeo, will never leave him. I hated the baking guy for all he said to Takeo, how rude, mean, bleh he was. So yeah, I am so delighted that we are through this one and getting back to normal cute Takeo x Rinko stuff.
Or so I thought. :P Then again I don't mind this new arc as much as the previous one. I can imagine what Takeo is going through, and how Rinko must feel. Still I do hope that Takeo will man up. Touching someone you love isn't bad. Hugging her isn't bad. She is your girlfriend. She loves you, and really, why are you getting worked up so much over a hug, or a caress. He makes such a big deal out of something that is natural. Of course, um, I do think it will be awkward, and he probably will have to be very careful, but then again, I also think that of their kisses. Not because they don't match, but because Takeo is so big he practically eats Rinko when he kisses her.... But I will still cheer for these 2, hoping they will stay together even when they get out of High School. They do make a super cute couple.
This one also brings the school festival, and boy, I laughed so much seeing Takeo in that police outfit, running around the place and helping out everyone. I also loved Rinko's face when she finally saw Takeo in the police outfit. Haha, she practicality swooned. So cute!
I do love the character growth, not only in Rinko, but also in Takeo. Especially Takeo I should add. Before all this people were quick to be afraid of him, turning to Suna, but now they are finally seeing that this big guy isn't doing them harm, he is helping them. He also has learned to explain what he is doing so people understand. Not only that, but he is getting better at understanding things, there are still a few things that are quite common sense (then again, common sense isn't so common), that Takeo is learning. He is also learning that people love him, that Rinko isn't the only girl in the world who thinks he is hot and wonderful. And that makes me so happy. He deserves all the happiness.
There is also a bit more development between Suna and Takeo's friendship. I loved that the author added this, as the bond between Takeo and Suna is so strong, but it seems that there are still problems (as we, the reader, could already see at times).
What more? Mm, not much, though I do wonder how the story will end. We still got 3 volumes left, but I can't imagine an ending just now. So I am curious. I hope everything will end clean and nice, and doesn't leave things open ended, or that the ending is rushed.
OMG! This is just so wonderful and sweet! First, the story about the chef who likes Yamato is finished up and she learns about the feelings Takeo has been going through. Then Takeo gets a lot of female attention at her shool fair and she ends up having the same type of feelings. The rest of the book is both funny and so darling! Takeo wants to touch Yamato whenever they are together because she is so cute but he feels like he'd just be like any pervert if he did that. So he decides to get his desires under control by exercising a lot but also finds it hard to even be near her now. Thus Yamato starts to wonder what is wrong and whether he loves her anymore. This is such an adorable example of the innocent relationship these two are having! I love it!
This one has some very sweet Takeo/Sunakawa moments! Also, Takeo is freaking out because Yamato is too cute, so there's a lot of him acting totally ridiculous. I sort of love how they both constantly go to Sunakawa for relationship advice, and even though he has no interest in having a relationship of his own and tries to get them to stop telling him stuff about theirs, he always manages to help them out in the perfect way. This trio is the best!
Also...sorry for the million My Love Story!! reviews. I was home sick yesterday and clearly all I did was lie in bed and read manga. I'm done now (until the next few volumes come in)!
It's ironic how there's a whole chapter about Suna and Takeo learning the importance of communication, only for problems to arise when Takeo avoids telling Yamato how he feels. Suna has always been such an enigma, but I really enjoy his presence this volume.
This continues to be one of my fav manga series, even with the random unnecessary jealousy plotline. The way Yamato skipped away happily when she found out Takeo wants to touch her more.... HEHEHEHEHEEHEHHEEHEHEH also Suna is sounding more and more ace as things go on.
I love that Kawahara and Aruko don't demonize female sexuality or imply that it's "dirty" - even Takeo simply is too innocent to realize that girls might want to be touched rather than thinking badly of Yamada when she reveals that she, too, wants them to be physically closer.
This volume has one chapter that was adapted into anime, and three that were not. So we're past the anime now! It's getting exciting, personally, to delve into arcs where I don't know what'll happen! (Though to be honest, it's not all unpredictable).
Plenty of hilarity following these dorks explore jealousies (on both sides), fighting urges (they're just so darn cute and innocent XD), tackle technology, and enjoy everday life together. Lots of laughs and cute artwork, and Suna remains "best bro".
Though, interestingly enough, we see main character, Takeo, have growth in learning to understand others and act consciously to not be a burden. Not that he ever was, he has a big heart, but social cues are not his strong suit, so in this volume, to see him become a best bro in return was really wholesome.
Okay, on to the next volume! (Fun fact, the cover for this volume was a nod to the live action version's movie poster! Let's see how difficult it'll be to find that movie...)
I want to start off by saying that if you've watched the anime, a good half of this takes place right after the ending of the anime adaptation. And boy, I wasn't let down. The good ol' humor and the facial expressions of Takeo Goda never cease to make me laugh. The ending of this volume was especially good because of some certain "conflict" (trying not to give away too much), which means more "first love" development and understanding. Honestly, this is a great, light-hearted, but humorously great take on relationships for high school students. Sure, some of the stuff mentioned is a little out of the regular day-to-day life, but overall, you get a kick out of this while unearthing some realistic emotions for those who are now understanding it themselves. Lovin' it!
something about this volume specifically was quite touching to me. the characters have really well-developed dynamics, and gosh darn do i love them all <3 - (excerpt from my book update) - Takeo's thoughts and emotions are all too relatable. It's interesting to pick up this series after a few years, considering I started reading this in middle school with no dating experience whatsoever. Now, having been in 3 relationships (currently in one right now), I feel I'm reading this manga from a different perspective.
I’m glad everything with Ichirose ended and he didn’t get mean towards Yamato. i found it adorable that Takeo’s younger sister is fond of Suna and that it was cute when Suna felt lonely without Takeo. We don’t really know what he thinks of most of the time so it was really nice to see. I wish he can find his own happiness so he stops being the ear to most of Takeo and Yamato’s problems. I love that he gives them such helpful advice but it gets pretty awkward at times.
This wraps up the pastry chef storyline. The girl's school has a cultural festival, where Takeo works as a security guard and makes Rinko really jealous! And that leads to a quandary for Takeo that is completely cracking me up. Ah, Takeo. So pure.
I honestly don't know what else to put other than adorable, the way takeo is reacting now is so funny, it's going to be really good to see how this Continues to develop!
In this volume Takeo shows his big heart by helping a rival for Yamato's love. He acts as bodyguard for an event at Yamato's school and he battles his desires to touch his girlfriend by taking some cold showers. Oh! And he discovers Suna has a secret he just won't talk about!!!!
