Ten-year-old Goose is lost. It's Christmas, his parents are dead, he's turned to petty thievery to support his increasingly addled Nan, and now his dog Mutt has gone missing.
As Goose searches the streets of Manchester on Christmas Eve for any sign of his dog, he encounters a strange man named Anthony, who seems to know an awful lot about everyone he meets but almost nothing at all about himself. Anthony's special skill is to help people who have lost something-and everyone's lost something, according to Anthony.
As they roam the streets together, they meet a wide variety of people, all of whom are searching desperately for something missing from their lives. As the mysterious Anthony proves again and again to have the power to reunite the seekers with the sought-after, Goose begins to wonder if Anthony may be able to help him find one of the precious things he's lost.
I never knew that there's a movie called Lost Christmas, and I totally had no clue that this book is the novelisation of the movie. The first part of the book was a bit slow, and it took me some time to warm to it. But afterward, the plot flew nicely, and there's enough spice, tears, and excitement for everyone.. Now I'm curious about the movie!
As night falls on Christmas Eve, an enigmatic man named Anthony awakens on the streets of Manchester with no memory of the past, and the unique ability to locate the lost.A magnificent tale of how Goose finds love , hope and dangers through life-as being an orphan at 11 years old his life became more difficult as there was no one for him, and who is there for him,is not so much the most best option to live with.Goose ends up leaving his toxic “home” with Frank who was his abusive uncle.I recommend this book to whoever likes heartbreak, difficulty and good results. With that I would like to end with a quote from Goose himself,
“ Like freshly fallen snow, my tears fall in the reminder of those I miss in heaven this holiday season.”

I received Lost Christmas as a Christmas pressie from my Mum and Dad. I originally planned to keep it until December of this year, so I would be reading a Christmassy book around Christmas, but had to pick it up on my Mum's insistence. Why? Well, she wants to watch the film Lost Christmas which we recorded when it was on last month. She's not the type of person who can watch movies based on a book or movies where a book version has been writen (as is the case with Lost Christmas) without reading the book first, so I let her borrow it. Once she finished, she said I HAD to read the book before we watched the movie because it was brilliant, and as she wanted to watch the movie soon, I had to read the book, like, yesterday. Obviously, my Mum didn't say those exact words, but you get the idea. She was right, the book is brilliant.
I picked Lost Christmas up thinking it was a children's book, but I would say it's more a pre-teen/early teen novel, with cross over appeal. The loss of Goose's parents has had a huge, huge impact on Goose's life. He's gone a bit off the rails because he hasn't dealt with things properly, and his Nan, who is his guardian now, has Alzheimer's that's steadily getting worse. His life doesn't look good. And the lives of various other people in the book have lives that are less than perfect. Lost Christmas reminds of movies like Love, Actually, as there are a lot of characters with their own individual stories, but they're all linked. It was quite a novelty to see something like this in a book; instead of just one or maybe two narrators like I'm used to, there were a whole number of them - though some had only very small parts, it really doesn't get confusing at all. The main narrator is Goose and it's his story that is the main focus. There's such a wealth of characters, but each of them have experienced loss in some form.
Which leads on to my next point. Lost Christmas is sad. There are some very light, amusing moments, but there are a number of moments that are just incredibly sad. There's one excruciating moment where I came so close to tears, because it's one of those rare moments where you know what's going to happen - you actually know, it's not a theory or a prediction, you know - and it's nothing good, and reading it is just awful! It's drawn out over several pages, and I just wanted to put the book down. It's excruciating! Really, there are some terribly upsetting moments.
I was so surprised by the ending! All the way through I was trying to work out who Anthony was, I had various theories that were based on nothing but guesses. They were discarded and another thought up, and then brought back, but never guessed what his story was, or how he knew everything about everyone else. It's so clever! And the actual ending of the book was just so good! Oh, it was just lovely! I loved.
The cover for Lost Christmas is really beautiful, but other than the snow, I have absolutely no idea how it relates to the story. I have no clue about the tree, and it looks like the shortest figure is a girl, which makes no sense to me. I am at a lost. But it is gorgeous!
A really sweet but also sad novel that's just wonderful and brilliant and all things good! I highly recommend Lost Christmas, it's fantastic!
Finished this book in about 3 hours, granted it's not an overly hard read and could have gotten rather confusing at the end, but it still stayed nice and simple. I am looking forward to the movie, since the book - probably one of the few - was based on the movie script rather than the movie being based on the book. It's a perfect Christmas book and reminds you of all that you have to be thankful for at this time of year, the book is on a similar vein to 'It a Wonderful Life'. If you are after a rather heartwarming book, that has characters acting like real people probably would - Nan being unwell, a husband and wife who lost their own child, a man who is losing his wife and child, a young boy who just can't seem to stay out of trouble since he lost his parents. The circle here is lost, everyone is connected to the main characters because they have lost something and it makes sense. But I am rambling, this book is just amazing! Anyone should read it, the twist at the end is a really good one too.
This is one of my favourite Christmas books. I really enjoyed re-readimg it this year. It is a really unique story about a young boy called Goose who loses his parents in a car crash on Christmas Eve. We follow the rippling effect of this event and how it impacts countless other lives as well as Goose's.
And of course, there's Anthony. A stranger who appears on Christmas Eve with no recollection of who he is or where he has come from, but brimming with useless facts: - most car horns are in the key of F - Walt Disney was afraid of mice - The space between your eye brows is called a glabella Anthony is my favourite character ever, I love useless facts!
Together, they help people find the things they've lost that Christmas. But can they find what Goose has lost?
I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a Christmas read that will stay in your heart forever.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 out of 5 stars
BorrowBox writes, "When Goose's parents are killed in a car crash on Christmas Eve, his life changes utterly. Living with his increasingly senile Nan, his dog Mutt is the only thing keeping him sane. His only other friend is Frank, a former friend of his father. Frank's own life is falling apart and he has recruited Goose to help him carry out petty theft around the city. A year to the day since the accident that changed his life, Goose meets Anthony, a strange man who has forgotten who he is, but seems to know more about others than they know about themselves. When Mutt goes missing, Goose has no choice but to rely on Anthony to help find him. In an adventure that draws in Frank, Goose follows Anthony across Manchester. But at the centre of the mystery is Anthony himself: Who is he? How does he know so much? And can he help Goose and the others find what they're searching for?" ===== ♥️♥️ =====

I loved this story from start to finish! Some of the twists within the story I had worked out before they were mentioned in the chapters, but the biggest twist of all was definitely a bit of a surprise. I had never heard of this story or it's writer before until randomly picking it up at the library, and had never heard of the film either. I am now determined to seek out the film, and read more of the writers books.
All of the characters mentioned within the book are in my mind 100% relatable. and I love the mysterious Anthony most of all.
Make sure you have plenty of time to read this book as once started it is incredibly hard to put down again. If I could change anything it would have been to have more time to read it in one go.
Lost Christmas by David Logan is a charming Christmas novel that will entertain and enchant no matter how old you are. Christmas is a time for miracles if you just believe. Within the story there are characters who have lost things. Sometimes it is just people themselves who have lost their way. That which is lost needs to be found. Footsteps need tracing to enable frozen hearts to bloom. The characters are an eclectic mix, all of whom lodge in the reader’s heart. They are uniquely and sympathetically drawn and appeal to the reader. Lost Christmas is reminiscent of It’s A Wonderful Life and Sliding Doors. It is a beautiful novel that warmed my heart and left me smiling.
Lost Christmas amintește de It’s A Wonderful Life și Sliding Doors. Este un roman frumos care mi-a încălzit inima și m-a lăsat zâmbind.
Ten year old Goose's life unravels when his parents are killed in a car accident on Christmas Eve. Living with his mentally declining grandmother and beloved dog, he starts breaking into houses and stealing. One year later, on Christmas Eve, he meets a mysterious stranger with mystical powers. Relying on him to help find his missing dog, Goose learns how his actions affect others and how our lives are intertwined. This reminds me of Mitch Alboms' books...maybe not the most engrossing books when you are reading them, but the story and the message stick with you.
I wanted to read this book to get into the christmas mood and I'm so glad I did. This could possibly be the best book I have read this year. I really was touched by Goose and felt great empathy for him. I really liked the twist at the end and felt it really completed the book to give it such a heartwarming, magical, 'Christmassy' feel to it. Would definitely recommend to anyone for a festive read and I cant wait to watch the movie
To start off with I didn’t think much of this book. I thought that there wasn’t much going on within the plot and I thought that it was going to turn out to be one of those books that you just don’t bother with. However, towards the end the story picked up and took off at a brilliant pace. I must admit that the ending was incredible and made me so happy. Overall a good read but I wouldn’t read it again.
A story of losing and gaining, Lost Christmas tells the story of Goose, who has lost so much over time. But then he meets Anthony, who manages to convince him that maybe losing something affects the whole world in ways he couldn't imagine. While a little bit confusing, this is a beautiful story, perfect for reading around Christmas time, or any time of the year.
I guessed where the book was going with Anthony, but I think how it all came together paid off well. No loose ends, the typical happy Christmas-is-saved ending, a bit cliché but a fun read all the same. The 'magic' that happened wasn't really explained, it was just there, though I suppose that's Christmas magic 😂🎄
A proper Christmas story this one! I got given this book yesterday by a friend and was told I should read it. He compares it with It's a Wonderful Life, and he's not wrong. It does have really great heartwarming features. It's a breath of fresh air.
I came upon this book in a sale. Picked it up for some nostalgia reading, I found it engrossing and endearing. I cried at the end. It was very touching and a joy to read.
I enjoyed this one, first Christmas book of December 2020 and it was a good one... something different and original that kept me hooked and made me smile!
This is a terrific little story -- I listened to it as an audible book because I had just finished another Eddie Izzard audible book that was really good. I wish he would record more!
