A tragedy in Guy Poitiers's youth in Louisiana tore him away from his sweetheart, Mary Devereaux, and consumed his life with guilt. Now only Mary's white magic and a single gold coin offer clues to his salvation. To settle the past, Guy and Mary must travel deep into the swamp and confront the very root of evil before it strikes, ending their chance for a happy ending.
The only book I can recall reading where the heroine lives on a houseboat in a bayou.
This one just didn't grab me. It had parts I liked, but I didn't want to mull over Mary's fate with Guy. By halfway through it was obvious to me that I was just going to push through and finish, find out the happy ending, and call it a day.
The ads for upcoming books were a nice perk - again, the mid-nineties typefaces, the plotlines, the ridiculous cover art - all come together to really take you back. There was an entry form for a trip giveaway, and I must say that the trip to San Francisco that the publisher gave away 22 years ago seemed quite nice.
In this captivating story, Guy Poitiers and Mary Devereaux are haunted by a tragic event from their past. Bound by guilt and shared history, they embark on a journey into the mysterious Louisiana swamp to confront the darkness that threatens their chance at happiness. With the aid of Mary's white magic and a symbolic gold coin, they must face the root of evil and find redemption before it's too late.
I found the dynamic tension between the characters in this book to be highly engaging and enjoyable. The way they were thrust into an adventure together added an extra layer of excitement to the story. It kept me captivated throughout my reading experience.
