The Mating Game: A Primer on Love, Sex, and Marriage

Rate this book
Strongly grounded in methodology and research design, The Mating A Primer on Love, Sex, and Marriage provides a comprehensive review of the nature of love, the role of sex in relationships, and theories of human attraction. Author Pamela C. Regan presents a wide range of theoretical and empirical work that highlights the links among these interrelated topics.   Designed to promote active learning and spark debate for upper-division undergraduate and graduate students in courses on Interpersonal or Close Relationships, Marriage and Family, and Human Sexuality, The Mating Game is also an indispensable resource for psychologists, therapists, and health professionals.

A fantastic review and summary of the research literature dealing with human partnership, and a great self-help resource, in a sense, of the patterns of thinking, believing, behaving, and interpreting that correlate (or impact directly) the quality and health of our relationships. The references section is almost 70 pages long, so Regan provides a wealth of opportunities for further reading, as well. I highly recommend for anyone interested in an academic, scientific analysis of human relationships.

Very basic, more or less just says things that are obvious, but takes a long time to say it nonetheless.
It also doesn't provide enough sources for it's claims, nor an in-depth discussion the topics, based on the research, with one or two exceptions. Basically, it's inadequate as a textbook, and there should be better introductory texts out there so it couldn't be recommended.
