Smoky Mountain #1

Minty's Kiss

Rate this book
A childhood crush and a lost kitten combine for one sweet, small town love story in the Smoky Mountains during the Christmas holidays. Childhood friends turn to lovers in this returning home romance.

When Molly retreats to North Carolina with Gracie, her ten-year-old daughter, she's surprised to find her childhood crush, Nick, still living in the area. Recovering from a divorce, Molly only wants to carve out a peaceful and happy existence for Gracie in a place where Molly always felt safe as a child.

The morning after her return, Nick, more handsome than she remembered, shows up at her cabin where she spent her childhood vacations. The flush of first love surprises Molly, and Nick is shocked to discover the grown-up Molly.

When Harold, Molly's old cat, runs out the cabin door and into the woods, Nick discovers the cat lying dead at the base of the tree where Molly always went to read as a child. After burying him under the tree, a broken-hearted Gracie and Molly return to the cabin and discover a gray furry kitty under the porch. Gracie names him Minty.

Gracie refuses to believe her father won't come back for them, so she resents Nick spending time with her mother and tries her best to pull them apart. Romance for the single mom may not be possible. One small kitty named Minty helps Gracie accept the love developing between Nick and Molly in time for her first Christmas in the mountains of North Carolina, but only after learning that life doesn't always turn out how we want.

Minty’s Kiss , a second chance and small town family romance, is the first book in the Smoky Mountain Romance series where a community of mountain folk band together to make families of their own choosing. Each heartwarming story builds on the idea of community and family as the cornerstone to happiness.

Buy Minty's Kiss today and enjoy a sweet romantic novella, filled with holiday cheer brought to life by an adorable kitten.

She's won various awards for her essays, columns, editorials, articles, and fiction. Currently, crafting fiction—mostly romances—occupies her time.

Her contemporary romances in the Behind the Love series are also set in Florida. The novels in her most recent series, Smoky Mountain Romances, are set in the fictional town of Laurel, North Carolina. She is currently working on a new romance series, Rivals in Love. Join the Crandall family of Chicago as the siblings find love despite their focus on successful careers. Her Montauk Romances are set in and around Long Island and feature simple, yet sophisticated beach houses designed with romantic intent.

Civil War Journal from the 2nd Michigan contains the reminiscences of her great-grandfather, Harmon Camburn, who joined the Union Army on April 20, 1861. The book contains his journal as well as annotations about the war in general. She’s also included several appendices that add local context to the journal. This is an expanded version of Civil War Journal of a Union Soldier published in 2013.

She has written several books of nonfiction on topics from gardening to travel to memoir. Her body of work contain stories set in a variety of places. Along with writing contemporary fiction and romances and creative nonfiction, Ms. Zick is also an editor, book formatter, and publisher.

She and her husband live in Tallahassee, Florida, during the winter. In the spring, they enjoy life in the Smoky Mountains near Murphy, North Carolina, where they enjoy gardening, kayaking, and golfing. And of course, in both locations,

Ms. Zick weaves stories that share her philosophy of living lightly upon this earth with love, laughter, and passion.

This is a sweet story about a second chance romance and a furry friend that blesses the life of a little girl. I really liked the characters in this story. All of them! Including the sweet little kittens and Harold. The setting of a cabin in the mountains and a small town gave the story a comfortable, homey feel. This is perfect for a quick Christmas read. I really enjoyed it!

I love being introduced to a new author, and being a part of a series is always an interesting way. I want to thank JL Campbell for introducing me to Minty's Kiss by P.C. Zick.

My synopsis of Minty's Kiss. It is one that pulls at your heart strings. Little town folks with big hearts. You know you have a gem on your hands when you have the readers wishing the story was a full length novel, so you could explore the characters even more. The prologue set the foundation well. You have Molly who at a tender age makes a vow to herself, to marry her best friend. With a twist of faith they part. What happens to bring them back together is nothing but divine intervention. The elements of the family pet is just the sweetest thing. You realize that even when life brings you lemons, you have a choice to make lemonade. The supporting characters Nick, Gracie, Lacy and Fran tie this story together. I look forward to reading more from Ms.Zick as I would love a featured novel on Lacy.

Oh and can I say while animals are not my thing, I appreciate the connection Molly and Gracie had with Harold and Minty. From what I know of animal lovers, the added value that pets bring to ones life is truly wonderful.

When Molly retreats to North Carolina with Gracie, her ten-year-old daughter, she's surprised to find her childhood crush, Nick, still living in the area. Months before her retreat, Molly’s husband announces he’s leaving to sail around the world with his best friend. She divorces him and takes Gracie and Harold, her seventeen-year-old cat, to the Smoky Mountains where she spent many happy childhood vacations.
The morning after her arrival, Nick shows up on her porch, and he is even more handsome than she remembered. She feels the flush of her adolescent crush heating up. But first, they must find Harold after he runs out the cabin door and into the woods.
When Nick discovers Harold lying dead at the base of the tree where Molly always went to read as a child, they bury him. A broken-hearted Gracie and Molly return to the cabin and discover a gray furry kitty under the porch. Gracie names him Minty
Gracie refuses to believe her father won’t come back for them, so she resents Nick spending time with her mother and tries her best to pull them apart. Can a small kitty named Minty help Gracie accept the love developing between Nick and Molly in time for her first Christmas in the mountains of North Carolina?

When Molly’s marriage ends in divorce, like her mother before her she finds refuge in the family vacation cabin in the mountains of southwestern North Carolina. Unlike her mother, Molly fully intends that this be a new start for herself and her young daughter, Gracie, who is reeling from her father’s decision to leave them and sail around the world. As Molly reconnects with her previous life and old friends she finds that memories and feelings are hard to leave behind.

I am going to go on record right at the start, this story was too short, just too darned short! Okay, usually I say that because there are so many loose ends or too much story left to tell and as a reader, I am left hanging with a need to read more and nothing left to read. I am actually impressed by how much storytelling was done in such a small space and if Molly and Nick got together a bit too fast, that is more history than instalove, which is what generally tends to turn me off of romance novellas. If I say it is too short it is simply because I just want to spend more time in this place with these people and that is never a bad thing.

This is an easy read, fun feel-good Holiday story and it is a wonderful introduction to the Smoky Mountain Romance series along with the town of Murphy, which is obviously a small close-knit community full of highly relatable characters that will be fun to get to know as the series progresses. Through Molly’s eyes the reader is able to catch up quickly on a bit of who is who in town with a little history thrown in for fun and Murphy sounds like a great place to raise a family, start a new life or maybe just visit for the season and I have already picked up book two in the series to see what happens next. Actually, I picked up books in a couple of series.

I throughly enjoyed this audiobook.
Molly had had a childhood crush on Nick he had become her best friend ever since he comforted her after her mother had retreated to her father's cabin to spite him after a bitter divorce. Now she was returning to that cabin that had been left to her after her own divorce. Nick arrived to see if she needed anything repaired on the cabin since her father had let some things go unrepaired during his illness before he died. When Nick saw her he felt the same old attraction he felt for her years ago when he knew he had to distance himself from her because she was several years younger than him. Would their mutual attraction grow to become more or would they go their separate ways again.
I received a free audiobook copy and left my honest review.

Minty's Kiss

This is the first of a series of books by P. C. Zick. This starts off with a woman moving back to a place she felt like home after a divorce. Her husband took off with his best friend in sailing the world. There she encountered a blast from her past. Someone she once knew and loved. But with all that she has a daughter who wanted her parents back together. Will true love get there or will put side forces keep them apart?

It was hard to accept the reality of a grown up world at Gracie’s young age, a father not coming back and to lose her beloved kitten. Lost was double fold till she spot another kitten. A kitten who needed love, which Gracie also needed. A beautiful story of how finding a new love, she accepted the new love between her Mother and Nick. The narration of the audio enhanced thus story. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Life sometimes allows return

Life sometimes allows return to the place where you were happy and hoped for a different outcome. When we return to that place, we need to be sure we do not allow ourselves to miss out again.

Molly's husband tells Molly that he is going to sail around the world with his best friend. Molly goes back to North Carolina with Gracie, her ten-year-old daughter and her 17 year old cat Harold. Gracie believes her dad is coming back even though he and Molly are divorced. Nick comes to the cabin the day after Molly arrives and Molly feels her old feelings for Nick surfacing [she had a childhood crush on him]. She is really surprised to find her childhood crush, Nick, still living in the area. Molly isn't in the mood for talking as she needs to find Harold who had bolted out the door and into the woods. Nick helps look for Harold and finds him dead at the tree Molly used to sit at and read with Harold. They bury Harold by that tree and broken-hearted Gracie and Molly return to the cabin and discover a gray furry kitty under the porch. Gracie names him Minty. To find out how the story ends read Minty's Kiss. I truly loved this beautifully written book.

MINTY”S KISS is a romance novella where you just know the end would be happy. The the real joy is to follow Molly, a divorced mother falling back in love with her childhood crush Nick, and her daughter Gracie, to whom this love seems like a threat to her sense of family, as they find their way the way to happiness.

MINTY”S KISS is a story of renewal: It opens with mother and daughter looking for Harold, their seventeen-years-old cat, assuming “He’s out in the woods somewhere” only to find him dead at the base of the tree where Molly used to read as a child. By the end of the story, they discover a furry kitty under the porch, and Gracie names him Minty. So by Christmas morning, all is well with the world. “We’re all going to take care of one another.”

Some romance stories are too sweet—this one is delightfully minty.

Five stars.

I received a free copy for an honest review. This is such a sweet story of a girl who receives a cat when her parents divorce and years later the same thing happens to her daughter. All the while, the cats in each of their lives has brought them comfort and unconditional love. Stories like these are wonderful as they illustrate how animals can be so healing during difficult times and bring such comfort and joy to our lives. The love story is really sweet but the connection between Harold (cat)/Molly) and Minty (cat)/Gracie were really the stars of the story.
