From the author of the international bestselling The Love Series, Contemporary Romance Author Casey Clipper, comes a new contemporary romance series. Jason Campbell and his team are on a mission - to find the jewelry thief that has hit every store in their town. They have zero leads. Their cagey burglar uses equipment and uncanny skills to prevent the detectives from gaining ground in the case that has dragged on far too long. Jason's endless hours working on this case are taking a toll. He has no life outside of his job. His nights are spent alone in a cold bed with dreams of a faceless bandit haunting him. Yes, their suspect is a woman bent on toying with law enforcement. Hannah Lakely is doing whatever it takes to survive. After escaping from the men who her parents owe money, she vows never to be put in a vulnerable position to be injured again. Those men favor breaking bones, specifically hers. Hannah does what is necessary for a woman with no high school diploma, no college education, no skill set, and in need of a large sum of money immediately to pay off her parents' loan. A world of crime is an empty life with no one to count on except for her only friend, who is also her conspirator. She's alone in the world, always looking over her shoulder for the mob or law enforcement, afraid of the day that either catches up with her. Jason's life of non-committed relationships is one that leaves him lonely at times, but he accepts that drawback after watching two of his LEO brothers go through hell in their marriages. Why does he need that hassle? It's difficult enough to find a good woman, let alone one who can tolerate being in a relationship with a detective. A law enforcement career can test even the best of couples. But Jason's world is turned upside down when he literally runs into a red-haired spitfire. Her fiery attitude amuses him. Smitten with the entrancing woman, he decides to pursue. Hannah can't believe that she' attracted the attention of law enforcement in a different manner than she ever expected. She knows she shouldn't entertain the officer's blatant attraction, but Jason won't take no for an answer. When she relents, deciding to cave to the determined detective, she certainly never expects to connect to him on a physical and emotional level. Jason's personal life is settling into place. Hannah's world is crumbling around her as she finds herself falling for a man who could put her in jail for a very long time, if he finds out her secret. Jason admits he may be more than just entranced with this gorgeous woman. Hannah's desperate and attempts to walk away from the life she's led, until the mob catches up to her. Again. What happens when Hannah tries to rid herself of the men who threaten her life by heisting the most secure jewelry store she's ever attempted? What happens to the couple if Jason and his unit figure out who their thief really is? What happens when Jason questions everything he thought he knew, including his career? And what happens when Hannah's life is put in danger because of decisions made by Jason and his team? This is not a cliffhanger series. Each novel in the series can be read as a standalone.
There's an scene that almost put me off. Where Hannah doesn't want to be with him because of her illegal activities and since he's a detective she sees him on a date and he kissed the woman in front of her he did it because he was hurt that she didn't cared about him but in my eyes he redeemed himself so although I didn't like that part I liked the rest of the book. Oh when that kiss happened they weren't together they just had one date and she decided to not get involved with him

I was provided an early release of this book in exchange for an honest review. How many detectives does it take to catch a jewel thief? Quite a few apparently! The story centers around detective Jason Campbell and his team, (all of whom appear to be hot-and not just because they all know how to fire a loaded weapon, if you get my drift), trying to catch an ever elusive jewel thief. The only thing they've been able to determine is that she, yes SHE, has a smoking hot body and definitely knows her stuff. Enter Hannah Lakely. Red head, fiesty, smart; and oh yeah, did I mention she has a smoking hot body? (Anyone see where this is going??) That's what Jason notices the night he accidentally slams his carriage into hers at the grocery store. With nothing more than a few nasty remarks exchanged, the two go their separate ways. Until the next day when he spots her at a cafe across the street from a jewelry store he and his partner are visiting. More sparks fly after he approaches her, and soon enough the two are dating. Hannah knows she's playing with fire dating Jason, but for the first time in her life, she feels secure and actually considers walking away from her craft. That is until she receives a visit from some very unfriendly folks, who deliver a message to her in the form of a very harsh beating, advising her parents owe money to their boss, and she's forced into risking one more heist to try and pay their debt. When Jason finally puts the pieces together, he has to decide if his love for Hannah out weighs his duty to his fellow detectives and the law. One of the things I really enjoy about Casey's stories is the time she takes to develop the characters. As the story develops, you grow to either genuinely love or hate them, and thus, feel their grief, fears, and joys throughout the story. There were times when I wanted to reach into the book and grab Hannah by the shoulders and shake some sense into her!! We also get a nice surprise visit from some old friends we came to know and love from Casey's previous series. The bad guy does really, really good this time!! Things seemed to get wrapped up in a very neat little bow, and rather quickly, at the end, but it is a HEA romance after all! I can't wait to see what the Men of Law will be up to next. Until then, I'll be sitting in a corner, quietly salivating, as I wait for more... Happy Reading!!
Casey Clipper has delivered an action packed, sexy start to a new Series with Heist, the first book in the Men of Law Series.
Police Detective and Jewel Thief make for one helluva story!
Detective Jason Campbell and his team have been chasing an elusive jewel thief for the past two years. They have very little leads to go on and as time goes on, the frustration grows further and the expectation to catch the thief becomes a high priority.
Hannah Lakely is the elusive jewel thief being tracked by Jason. Her reasoning behind the heists is to pay her parents’ way out of their massive debts that seem to be never ending. She knows that what she is doing is illegal and the repercussions of getting caught are extremely serious but she feels she has no other choice.
When these two first meet, it is explosive and sets the pace for the rest of the book.
The obstacles these two face along the way pave the way for an exciting and exhilarating story filled with humour, sassiness and downright freaking hot sex scenes! I cannot wait to read more from the Men of Law Series.
I enjoyed this book. I liked the premise of a cop falling for a jewel thief. Totally unique! I liked the characters. They were people you could befriend in real life. The build up of the romance was also realistic; not rushed, and the sex scenes weren't too graphic, which I appreciate. I also liked the actual heist scene; it played out in perfect timing.
Why I rated this 4 stars is because it wrapped up waaayy too quickly. After the climax, we torpedoed to the end, and it didn't satisfy as much as it could have. I also found a few events implausible. Something happened to Hannah twice in her past, yet she's running around in the healthiest body ever. Also, I found some of the "bad guys" a little too nice, but since this book is part of a series, I may learn more about them. And, yes, I do plan on reading the rest of this series. I read for escapism, and this book did that for me.
Cop and robber story of the highest order! The story is all about Jason and Hannah and they are not exactly your average couple. Jason is a cop and I got the feeling that he was beginning to feel a little jaded with the job, it wasn’t the sort of career that was conducive to being able to hold down a relationship, he had seen more than enough of his colleague watch they loved ones walk away from the stain of being married to the force and as such he has no interest in getting into any relationship. But you can bet your bottom dollar that if and when he changed his mind he never considered that the woman he would fall from was a jewel thief. Hannah was a product of her childhood which resulted in her need to resort to crime as a means to survive. She is a wily character but then again in her profession I suppose that is a good trait to have. So what happens when a feisty redhead and a jaded cop crash into each other in the supermarket? The sparks fly and when they catch sight of each other the following day, there is yet another opportunity for the initial spark to be fanned. But since Hannah is opposite a jewellers that Jason just happens to be in – the location on her part is not exactly co-incidental! But as much as she knows she is treading a very dangerous path, she can’t help but want what being with Jason can offer her. She even gives consideration to giving it all up for him, for her shot at normalcy. But life or at least her life isn’t quite ready for her to walk away just yet and the message they hand her is both physically and mentally harsh. She has one choice, one final job and the family debt is settled and she can walk away but what happens when the man that loves her, the man sworn to uphold the law… pieces her story together and has to make a choice on what to do? I felt for Jason I really did it wasn’t a situation that anyone would want to be in, torn between the job that had sucked the life from him but which he was committed to and the woman he loved, knowing that what she was being asked to do was not for her benefit. What decision did he make, well that my friend you will need to read for yourself but I will tell you that you will not be disappointed. I liked the fact that the author gave the story time to spread its wings, time to evolve although I would have liked the conclusion to be a little more evolutionary, it seemed that the door quickly closed on the events and all the loose ends were quickly tied and tidied away. But don’t think that I am criticizing the book, I am not, and I loved the characters, although Hannah wasn’t without her frustrations! But I am looking forward to the rest of the Men of Law ! .
I was intrigued when I read the synopsis for Heist, and the book didn’t disappoint at all. It’s full of romance, steam, and mystery…three of my favorite things! Jason and his team of detectives are busy trying to nab a smart and crafty cat burglar who happens to be a woman. In fact, Jason can’t seem to get the beauty out of his mind…he has even had dreams of her. Granted, he doesn’t date, but he still can’t get her image out of his mind…until he meets the lovely Hannah. The two flirt, and she reluctantly agrees to go out with him, and neither one can deny their strong feelings for one another. Each one makes the other finally want someone to share their lives with. He wants her in his life, and she’s trying to run…but from who and from what?
Jason and Hannah were great together. Their romance is a whirlwind, and the two get serious pretty quick. When a couple falls in love instantly, that tends to turn me off, but not in this book. In Heist, it really worked. I loved the push and pull between the two. It’s nice for a guy to be pushing for a relationship and seeing the girl running scared. I liked that the tables were turned in this book. Jason is gorgeous, but he has a heart to match. I loved the relationship with his friends and his family, especially his mom, she’s awesome! Hannah comes across as a tough, street smart woman who does what she has to in order to survive, but underneath all that, she just a woman with a horrible childhood who just wants what most of us want, a loving husband, children, loving family and friends.
I liked that Heist was somewhat different than other romances out there right now. The story was fast paced and really kept my interest, and the way in which she developed her characters, not just the primary ones but the secondary ones as well, really drew me into the story. Jason and Hannah were a couple I really wanted to have their HEA, even though it was a rough journey to get there. I think Heist is a great start to the series. I cannot wait for the other men to get their stories, but I can’t decide which one I want to read first. Looking forward to more from Casey Clipper and her “Men of Law.”
***Read and Reviewed for Devilishly Delicious Book Reviews***
Casey has done it again! She has written a superb story! Heist is a good, solid story to act as the basis for a whole new series-- The Men of Law Series. I know without a doubt this will be an awesome set of books!
Heist has an unusual premise. Jason is a police detective and Hannah is the very clever jewel thief Jason and his team have been trying to catch for two years. Obviously, there are numerous obstacles for them to overcome in order to have a relationship. Casey does a wondeful job of keeping the story grounded in reality. It would have been easy to allow the story to "jump the shark".
Jason and Hannah's first encounter is abrupt and sets the tone for Hannah's spitfire temperament. Their third encounter is humorous due to Jason's mom. Beverly is quite a character. I loved her outlook on life and her straight forward way of expressing herself. Plus, Jason and Beverly's relationship was fun to read. Their love so obvious. Jason's relationship with his dad was awesome, too.
The chemistry between Jason and Hannah is HAWT!!! In true Casey fashion, they scorch your ereader! I rooted for them to straighten out the problems and have a HEA. Especially for Hannah. She may be a jewel thief but she deserves happiness after all she has lived through. I loved the fact everything wasn't tied up in a pretty little bow when the story ended. They are together and madly in love but they still have some kinks to work through.
Heist is well-written, flows easily, has some twists, and grabbed my attention from the beginning. Jason and Hannah are well-developed characters. The rest are developed enough to make them interesting and real.
All the characters are interesting. Jason's detective brothers- Dean, Nick, Chief, and Tyler- will each have their story told as the series continues. I would like to see Roy have a book. Heck, I'd like another story about Jason and Hannah.
In case you haven't guessed by now, I loved Heist. Casey never disappoints me. Not only do I whole-heartedly, emphatically suggest you read Heist, I recommend reading all books by Casey Clipper. You won't be sorry.
Jason is a career police officer who’s burnt out. He’s also seen many of his fellow officers suffer the ill-effects of failed marriages. As a result, he’s not interested in any relationship. Then he meets Hannah, and he’s instantly attracted to her. At first, I was annoyed with Jason’s bumbling attempts to flirt with Hannah. His hot factor definitely increased later in the book.
Hannah is a strong woman in some ways, but she remains a product of her childhood through much of the book. Forced to choose a life of crime to survive, she finds herself unable to have a normal life. When she meets a sexy police detective things get even more complicated—as one would expect when a jewel thief dates a police detective. I don’t want to give away too many details, but there were some things that really bothered me about Hannah in the beginning. What redeemed her was her ability to see her own mistakes and try to learn from them.
I gave this sweet romance 4 stars. If you’re like me, you will spend plenty of time wondering how Jason and Hannah can possibly end up together when they are in such a difficult position. Overall, this story moves at a good pace, but I did have some trouble getting into it at first, possibly because I couldn’t envision a happy ending for Hannah and Jason’s difficult situation. This book is the beginning of a series, but it is a standalone novel. I not only enjoyed Jason and Hannah, I also enjoyed the supporting characters who I suspect will play bigger roles in the later books.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Jason, Dean, Nick, Tyler and their chief were studying a work of art in the illegal act of thievery. She is a very talented criminal. For two years she managed to successfully break into every jewelry store in the town. Hannah changed her name, her appearance and state that she resided in to avoid unwanted ambush visits. Hannah takes care of her friend Roy. While at the store shopping for food for Roy, she got a cart ran into her by Jason. Jason couldn't get the girl off his mind. They kept meeting up at different places. Jason finally figured out her name. Jason is a detective, hates grocery shopping, doesn't date unless the woman can handle his job. He became a detective four years ago. Runs himself ragged, 34 years old, doesn't visit his parents very often. Hannah is running from her mother and fathers debt collectors, she is very strong. Cares very much about Roy. Roy took in Hannah,Hannah's friend, knows her entire past. Feared people and became a recluse. Nick is a Detective, Jason's friend. Dean is a detective, Jason's partner, ladies man. Jason's friend. Tyler is the rookie detective, follows the book.Beverly is Jason's mom, she is very sweet and nice. This book is amazing! It's very well written and the characters are very well developed. I couldn't put this book down, I felt very connected to the characters. This is one book that I know I will be able to read again and again. This is the first book in the Men of Law Series. I can't wait to read the second book.
Jason, a rather attractive detective, has been single for quite some time. He's been working with his team to crack a jewelry thief case. This woman manages to get in and out without leaving any evidence, and after two years of chasing her, the team wants to find her before the feds move in and take over the case. When he is attracted to a mysterious redhead, the sparks fly, but she keeps resisting his advances. He's a pretty stand-up guy and you can't help but cheer for him to solve the mystery and get the girl. Hannah has been doing what she needs to in order to survive. Her parents' gambling debts with the mob keep coming back to haunt her, so she has learned how to rob jewelry stores to make some quick cash. She thinks she is ready to give it all up when, once again, they come knocking. So she plans a bigger heist with more risk. It doesn't help matters that she's being pursued romantically by the detective that has been chasing her as a criminal. So there are a lot of secrets, a lot of "will they or won't they," and twists and turns. I had a hard time putting this down and loved how detailed everything was. It seemed well plotted and I felt like I knew the characters. I can not wait to see more in this series. I purchased this book at a local book signing. Great investment!
Casey Clipper knocks another one out of the park. She sucks you into the emotion that her characters are notorious for!
Hannah is an Illusive jewel thief, Jason is the detective trying to bring her to justice. But what happens when love and duty intertwine? What happens one day when you wake up thinking life couldn't be any better? You give your heart to another, just to find out they aren't who you really thought they were. You find out that the one person you were the most certain about in life is keeping a secret from you. A secret so big that it rocks you to the core, and you stop believing in what you thought you new, but deep down your still willing to risk anything, even if that means walking away from the life you have always known.....for love.
Reading this story was like watching my favorite tv show. I couldn't walk away or put it down because it's MONUMENTAL and you just know reading this will change your view on life and love.
This is a story of unfailing acceptance and unconditional love. A story that brings hope and love regardless of the twists and turn of life. Love gets ugly, but still finds away! Thank you Ms. Clipper for another PAGE TURNER, I look forward to another Spellbinding series from you!
Detective Jason Campbell is after a mysterious woman who has been robbing jewelry stores for around two years and who has not given them any clues to who she is or how she leaves no traces behind. He and his fellow detectives have worked many hours and know if they don't solve it soon the case will be turned over to the FBI.
Hannah Lakely is doing what she can to survive and pay off her parents continuous gambling and drugs debts. She has been found countless times by the men her parents owe and the cycle never seems to stop. Until now.
I absolutely love Hannah's character and her feisty personality. She has such a sad and traumatic past that it is no wonder she has been trying to get away from it. I love her relationship with Roy and how much she genuinely cares for him.
Jason is great but obviously head over heels in love which totally affects his judgment but true love can not easily be given away!
Heist was a good book. Once I started I could not put it down. The main characters were terrific. Caseys writing was great. She would go into detail so it felt like you were right there with them. Hannah was the character that would walk on the edge and you wondered when she would get off it. She was strong and independent women. Jason was the sexy cop that fell hard. At the end he made the tough decision to quite the force. The support characters were just as strong. Casey set the stage for Deans story and the other guys. It will be interesting to see if Hannah and Jason will come back in future stories.
There were a coup,e editing errors but nothing to big. I was able to work through them. This is a stand alone book, but at the end you want more and I wanted to go on to book two.
This review is written for Kylie's Fiction Addiction.
Another awesome book from Casey Clipper! This book grabbed me from the very beginning. It starts with Jason and his LEO Brothers watching a surveillance video of a jewelry heist, and how they know the thief is a woman but that's all they have on her. Hannah is the renegade jewel thief who's dedicated her life to pulling off the next job so that she can escape the demons of her past, but what happens when she falls in love? And what happens when it's with an officer of the law??
This book has it all, hot chemistry, suspense, a little angst, and a HEA! Heist is very well written, and the characters are well developed! I can't wait to read the other books in The Men of Law Series!
This was the ultimate game of cat and mouse. Jason was the detective determined to solve the mystery of the jewel thief that had invaded his town. He was resolved to get his man or woman as the case may be. Hannah was equally determined to not get caught. She has her reasons for the stealing and wants nothing to interfere with her quest. Everything changes when the two meet and it is only a matter of time before the secrets are out. This was a great story of romance with a twist of suspense and drama. The story unfolded naturally and the bond between Jason and Hannah was scorching hot. I was absorbed in this story until the end and look forward to more from this author.
I really liked the beginning of this book. Feisty redheads are always awesome, but there were certain things I rolled my eyes at. She lost upwards of 40 lbs, but never lost any of her boobs? Usually they're the first things to go. Secondly, I can't believe that Jason would blindly throw away a job he worked so hard for because the woman he loves (after only a few months) is a cat burglar, but he doesn't want to turn her in. Those were the major problems I had, everything else was good. I liked the banter, I liked Dean's character. I'm looking forward to book two.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I'm reviewing this book for Kylie's Fiction Addiction.
From the very first word in this book I was hooked. Casey you have done it again. Wow. From the minute Jason and Hannah meet there is an explosion of attraction. I'm completely hooked. Hannah has overcome a hard childhood learning to adapt and survive. Along comes Jason to disrupt her survival mode. Hot Alpha males. Sassy lady = Addiction guaranteed. I can not wait for boo
Casey has always been able to capture me in her books! Her writing is always true to her heart!! Jason is a burnt out detective that meets the one woman who will rock his world and change his life forever! Hannah couldn't help her choices in her life until she met Jason, and fell in love with him! Cannot wait to read the next story!! Dean's will be very interesting for sure.
Another amazing book from Casey Clipper, I love the premise for this book, Police Detective meets jewelry thief.. I know we all fell madly in love with Casey's previous series, but here is a whole other set of men to fall in love with.
I luv Casey's books. The detail and emotion are exceptional. The storyline was imaginative and creative..Hot sexy Alpha's.... Luved seeing glimpses of the Murphy's too. Looking forward to the next in the series
With developed characters and a well-formulated plot, Clipper has a good start to the Men in Law series. While there are a few moments with some cliches and cheesy descriptions (primarily during a couple of the sex scenes), the writing is good, and I'll be checking out the rest of the series.
