'My words will become a fire in your mouth that you cannot contain. They will burn until you have warned my Bride. Warn her before it is too late!' So begins a dramatic journey into holiness, as newlyweds Brandon and Sarah Martus accept the call to become Revelation's two prophets. This is not another end-times thriller, but one of the most intense and thought-provoking pieces of Christian fiction to come along in years. As the couple prepare for the final showdown against Satan himself, they must live and proclaim the truths Christ has given his end-times church. From America, to archaeological ruins dating back to Bible times, to the Himalayas, and finally to Jerusalem, Brandon and Sarah battle the forces of man and hell while learning the true cost of following Christ . . . and experiencing a Love far deeper than either could have imagined. Author Bill Myers says, 'Writing this book has changed my life.' Reading it could very well change yours.
Bill Myers was born into a Christian home, and although as a child he became bored with Christianity, he decided at the University of Washington quote, to "make God my boss." Ironically, at the University his worst subject was writing. He claims to have prayed, and said that he would be able to do anything for God, except write. Even so, he has become a prominent Christian writer, and has a large amount of successful books and films to his credit.
Left Behind is easily among the most well-known and bestselling works of Christian fiction...but it's also among the shoddiest. Whether or not you believe in the Rapture, there are plenty of other novels and similar media that deal with the "end times" that are vastly superior to that bloated series. Even Jerry Jenkins and the late Tim LaHaye have written or co-written books outside of Left Behind that are much better.
Despite LB's unfortunate popularity, there were great authors in the realm of Christian fiction before that series took over...and Bill Myers is one of them. Writing everything from juvenile, young adult, and adult fiction to true stories, his writings are worth reading. In fact, he was my introduction to the "inspirational" genre back in the day.
If you've been burned by poor writing and inane stories in the realm of Christian entertainment, you should check out the writings of Bill Myers; his works stand out above the rest.
One of my top 10 favorite books of all-time. LOVE this book, the story, the heart, the action…and of course, the spiritual truths. This book is truly life-changing.
Okay look, I wanted to hate this book. And there were lots of things that I did hate about this book. Bill Myers is a writer whose books are -easy- to hate. The thing is, though.... There's worse Christian Sci-fi out there. And the focus of this book really seems to be on how hard it is to shoulder the burden that God expects out of you. Other books try to push that line without actually doing it or saying anything. Lord, this book isn't good, but I actually bought this particular theme and cared about what his characters were going through... Which prolly says worse things about me than it does good things about Bill Myers. But nonetheless, it could have been far worse.
As the author stated at the start of his book, if you're looking for a great end-times book that is true to most-believed last days event, this book is not it. HOWEVER, if you want a book that helps you understand the concept of dying to self and understanding the love of God, this book is for you. It definitely nurtured my soul once I got over the identity of the two witnesses he puts forth. Look beyond that and you will LOVE this book! I have not read the first two books before this and didn't feel I missed anything by not having read them first.
When I read this I didn't realize that I was reading the third book in a series but then I didn't feel that I lacked any information from the previous two to enjoy this book.
Bill Myers definitely a a point to make . Don't get me wrong I'm a big Jesus guy but I don't like when Myers sets a brotherhood of man against Christianity. The thing I like about christian books is the faith in God , purity and love they contain. I don't read them to have other religions and philosophies declared false.
But that is one thing Bill Myers pointedly does in his books but still his writing is excellent . His premises of the devil and Christ clashing are fantastic. This is teh 4th book by him Ive read and he has this theme of a christ like person being born in modern times and acting out a "Jesus Christ Superstar-like " script andI enjoy that because I am very much in favor of their being God men walking the earth to day (In fact I know one of them very well) So THAT Is what i love about the book s and I'd love to see authors of other religious backgrounds do the same. (if they can do it in a clean way that does not have the God man having sex -(see my review of Stranger in a Strange land)
A better Jesus in the modern world series than this is teh Joshua series by Joseph Girzone
For a number of years this book held the top spot as my favorite book ever. It's the third in a series, though each book can stand on its own. Just absolutely fantastic. I grew as a person and as a believer by reading it.
This was an interesting take on the coming of the two witnesses in Revelation. I liked that Bill made them real people and not stoic one dimensional biblical figures. I think the end was a bit rushed, but overall it was a great read.
The third book in the Fire of Heaven trilogy. This one tied the first two books together nicely, bringing Katherine and her son together with Brandon and Sarah.
As much as this book spooked me out, it was God's word through and through. I wonder whether I would go ahead and lay down my life for the Gospel of Christ.
