The Vampyr #3

The New Vampire

Rate this book
Gianna Logan had it all, a new family, a baby on the way, and a future as bright as a shooting star. She lost that life one spring night to the ruthless greed of a half-mad vampire. After months in a cage, she awakens to the searing light, her memory threadbare, the shadows roiling through her mind, and the bond with her husbands broken. As she slowly rediscovers herself, she must navigate the often treacherous world of the Vampyr, where nothing is ever as it seems. Under the glittering surface, war brews and the past Gianna thought long gone slithers into her life, claiming a part of her she thought never to have again.

I live in the rural South. Yup, I really do. Mostly, I write. And write. And sometimes I spend time with my teen-aged son, who is a hoot.

This book is pretty much a vampire orgy, and none of it makes sense. The protagonist has no idea what's going on at any time, which means that I as the reader had no idea what was going on at any time. But, most of it was sex scenes, or sex talk, and it just kept getting weirder and weirder. At one point, a three-some was going on one side of a gondola thing, while another pair was going at it on the other side. At the point when another five-some type thing was being set up between Gigi and her husbands and the vampire queen and her boy toy.
Another complaint is that the vampires don't seem to be actual vampires. Almost all of the vampires are girls, which is fine with me, as that would happen if they only turned girls... But, from what I understood, these vampires can regenerate their own blood, albeit slowly, and they require both normal human food and blood to survive, and they're only supposed to feed on others' blood while engaging in some kind of sexual activity. What?

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS POSSIBLE SPOILERS AND YOU SHOULD NOT READ IT UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE PREVIOUS TWO BOOKS!

This is Gianna's story to tell and you really REALLY need to read books one, The Vampire's Pet (told from Eric's POV) and book two, The Vampire's Favorite (told from Jason's POV) before you read this one. It is a continuation of their story.

I really liked book one, and loved book two but struggled with this one. At a couple of points it was touch and go as to whether I would actually finish it.

I refer you to my review for The Vampire's Pet. I made a point of saying there were inconsistencies in the story line, things that were not mentioned, then were a major point, that sort of thing. I didn't notice them in book two but here they are rife. And this point is the main reason for my struggle with it.

Gianna's sister is killed in the attack that left her a vampire. But only once was she mentioned, and there was no sorrow, no grieving by Gianna for her sister, none at all. SOME of the baby story line was right to be glanced over, but not all of it. Jason and Eric were talking about how Gianna thought the baby had died. BUT she didn't think this, not once! And things happened in The Vampire's Favorite, major things in that book, new people were met, important powerful people. BUT none of that bled over into this one. And it really should have, considering some of the things that happened!

Now I get that this is Gianna's story, and the other books were Eric and Jason's but both appear here, they are her HUSBANDS! So of course they appear here and play a huge part, but some of Favorite should have been followed up here.

Before I wrote this review, I had not yet posted my review for Favorite, and I upgraded my star rating to 5 after reading this one. I cannot, in all honesty and fairness, give that book the original 4.5 I gave it after reading this one, I just can't.

There is a fourth book, the Master Vampire, which I assume with be when Eric turns. I'd still like to read it, and catch up with Eric, Jason and Gianna, and all the other people we have met along the way.

3 stars

**same worded review will appear on Goodreads, Amazon.co,uk, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble**

ps, do you know how much it killed me to write Favorite?? Because here, in the UK it would be FAVOURITE!!!

In “The New Vampire” we finally get to find out what happened to Gianna! (Spoiler if you haven’t yet read “The Vampire’s Favorite”.) I think I related less to Gianna than to the other narrators in the previous books in this series, which meant I wasn’t quite as into this one, but that may just be because Eric’s point of view makes the most sense to me. It is interesting to see the different points of view because I feel like Gianna was the one we got to know the least in “The Vampire’s Pet”.

I also thought it was interesting to get to know the politics and some of the over-arching plans that are going on in the vampyr world and where the last in the series might be going. Consider yourself warned though, the last in the series is not yet out so you’ll be left with a cliffhanger!

Warning: Contains repeated sexual content and some violence.

Who should read it? Fans of the series! It won't make much sense if you haven't started at the beginning.

Please note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review courtesy of the author.

Really good but wrong order

There was something missing from this book. It says it's book two but guess is book 3 when book 2 is not even out. So that makes no sense. Book one was great this wong was constant sex less story. Still good but could have been so much better.
