‘The Magic Tree A timeless story for you and me’ is a 2014 picture and poetry book for young children written by Michal Y. Noah and illustrated by Chrissy Fanslau. The book explores the themes of positivity, pride, friendship and playing to one’s strengths, and provides, according to the author’s introduction, “a tool for self-development and personal growth”. The story follows the growth of the magic tree, from seed to fully grown, over the course of a season and its interaction with Scamper the squirrel, Sparkle the butterfly and Hoppy the bunny and the world around it. It tells the story through a series of poems and rhymes and through its charming and colourful illustrations.

‘Although The Magic Tree A timeless story for you and me’ is a children’s book, there is a message within its pages for everyone. Michal Y. Noah’s story is indeed a very positive one and explores the themes of growing up, self-belief and self-confidence and demonstrates the importance of togetherness, generosity and understanding the world around us. Chrissy Fanslau’s illustrations are delightful: the characters are cute and bright, and the concept of animals and nature living together in harmony will appeal greatly to its target audience of young children.
Some of the lines in the poems don’t scan quite as well as others, so was a little difficult to get into a rhythm or flow of reading them out. Despite this, it is a charming way to explain the concept of positivity to children and it can remind adults too! For Readers' Favorite.
