Amanda Bible Williams likes words and books more than just about anything. She holds bachelor’s degrees in English and psychology, nearly a master’s in religion, and a deep love for a farmhouse east of Nashville, Tennessee, where she lives with her husband and their three children. Chief Content Officer of She Reads Truth, Amanda spends her days happily rearranging sentences and explaining that her maiden name really is Bible.
Perhaps I just misunderstood the premise of this book. I bought it because I thought it was going to provide a practical structure to reading and studying the bible. I was hoping the book would offer some real solutions to my problem of hopping around and at times not knowing where to begin.
It turns out they do outline some different methods of bible study, but it's one single page in the appendix. Ha!
So obviously I was just expecting something different than this book offered. As for what it did actually cover, meh. I didn't love the long, only semi relevant life stories at the beginning of each chapter. There were a few good points made throughout, but mostly I felt like I was just going through the motions to get through the questions. I can't say it inspired me.
On the other hand, it did get me to "open my bible" every day and I need that push after the business of the holidays kind of derailed me. So, mission accomplished.
I was starting a small group study and thought this would be just right as a “let’s get started” study program. It was not too deep for those who tend to struggle connecting with scripture, but it wasn’t too fluffy for those who really like to dig in to the word. The optional video segments were short and was a nice way to engage with the authors of the study. They enhance your group sessions, but they’re not essential. I would recommend this as a good choice when you aren’t sure where your group stands in their relationship with the bible.
I think parts were unclear if you were not a seasoned believer, you would have a hard time understanding a few areas. Not in-depth, just scratched the surface it felt like and hopped around a lot. Videos did not aid in my understanding or appreciation...liked both ladies but felt they talked over one another.
While I appreciate the premise, I didn’t like the book. While I DID read a lot of my bible doing it, the fill in the blank study format was a bit elementary to me. I kept longing to dig deeper but it never came.
I decided to bail on this one. I just didn't enjoy coming to it and was reading it because I felt like I needed to give the authors my time and give it a chance. But I decided that I needed to spend my time on other things. I am interested in learning how to study the Bible, but I just felt like this format didn't work for me. I like the idea of it...to focus on the Word, and not on topical Bible studies. But a Bible study focused on how to approach the Bible just seemed a little weird and maybe a bit basic for me. I would recommend for people who might be intimidated in approaching the Word. There are definitely good things to offer, and it's a great place to start if you are a beginner in reading the Bible.
I really enjoyed this Bible study. The videos that accompany it were very short, and more of a sit in with friends. The meat of the study is in the book, and the Bible. Opening up parts of the Bible I haven't read yet. And exploring how to apply the Word, and abide in Jesus.
I enjoyed this Bible Study. I have been using the She Reads Truth app daily. Both Rachel & Amanda are authentic. I love that their ministry is to share the bible with women on a daily basis.
Did this as a group study and it was very well received. Women who were new to Bible study and even those further along in their faith walk benefited from the exercises in it and it began some great discussions.
I am a visual person and I didnt find the videos to he much help in learning as much as I have in other studies. I did this study with a group in church and honestly felt I could have done this one on my own.
I really enjoyed this study. It's definitely helped equip me to be more comfortable about how and where to study the bible. I hope to continue applying the information I learned over this study.
I loved this study for everyone, no matter if you’re just reading the Bible for the first time or all your life. The format, content and tone were refreshing, encouraging and kind.
Great study book to go through for any woman no matter how long you've been following Christ. I'm a Young Life leader and I did this study with 3 high school girls. It has a great amount of individual study and also good discussion questions. The study seems to be written for women who are married/have kids but we still enjoyed it and got a lot out of our time together!
I truly loved this Bible study! So much so that I'm doing it again with different friends via Facebook instead of in person because we're all very busy and don't have schedules where meeting face to face is possible. It encouraged, convicted, taught me and so much more. I really just got so much out of this study and can not wait to start more of their studies.
I love that this book addresses our obstacles to getting in our Bibles and digging deeper into them, but wasn't entirely captivated by the writing. A great starting point for someone who's just coming to the faith and/or not an avid reader. I also LOVED the photos distributed throughout the book -- they were like a breath of fresh air. Good study.
Read for a Bible Study. I was unable to participate much in the group due to circumstances. Typical modern Bible study book with a little more emphasis on scripture.
I think I’m more drawn to academic style studies (ala Beth Moore) where you’re digging into specific text of scripture and less into how scripture makes you feel or is applied. This was more feelings and application. I still really enjoyed it. I did the study by myself and the solo videos were super affordable and it was neat to hear more from Raechel and Amanda. I’ve been following along with She Reads Truth since it started. The only thing that could have taken me to 5 stars would be more teaching of history or meaning. In any case, I probably need to occasional application and feeling study so I’m glad I went through this even though it wasn’t what I was looking for originally. I’ll also say that I’m leaving it more excited to find another study and keep digging in/maintaining my daily bible reading habit.
