This is a short story that takes place on Jakku. This short story is about a robbery that a droid has committed.

This is a reread for me. It was included in part of a Tales book that I read awhile ago. If I knew that I wouldn't have borrowed this. That being said I looked at my review for that particular Tales book and I said this was a highlight of that book. After rereading it again I can see why. This short story is basically your robbery heist set in the Wild West. Many stories set in this universe has tried to incorporate different genres. When it works they are so enjoyable. This one does it with the Wild West and it works. I got a sense of the atmosphere right away and the setting of Jakku works perfectly for this genre. The only difference is that instead of outlaws as the villains in your standard western we have droids. We even have the showdown at noon to complete it all.

If you are looking for a story that adds to the canon this is not that story. If you are looking for a quick read that is a delight to read then this is your story. When I read this in the past I liked it and I liked it now in the present.

first of all.. its a quick short story and a nice feel to a character who got cut from SW7.
secondly.. i read a review that stated "ashamed this is canon." oh geez, get off yer high tauntaun. it's a short story. it won't ruin a precious 'canon'. the star wars universe is big enough for a short story sci-fi western.
thirdly.. dear landry q. walker, no one in the entire universe pronounces the letter Z as "zee" unless you're american (a small populas of any galaxy near and far, far away). the rest of us pronounce it "zed". please take note. lol :)

It's the wild west!

Welcome to Jakku! A real frontier - there's a sheriff (er, constable) and a train robbery (er, spaceship) and a turncoat... or IS he.

Nice Star Wars short, setting something of the scene for whatever is ahead at Jakku.....

Just what I wanted - quick, fun, not too serious. Loved the short chapters. Not groundbreaking, but a nice read!

This short story is the first of a series, so it's not too long. It's about a sheriff who gets involved in a credit theft and finds out the culprit may be closer than he thinks. There's not much to say - given the length, there's not too much depth. But I was invested in the characters, to a degree, and the ending was quite nice. I enjoyed the build-up. Like I said, this isn't too complicated, but it's fun enough for what it is. 3/5 stars.

I have not yet seen The Force Awakens, but from promotional material it seems like Constable Zuvio is the character most featured in the film out of these four stories. In this story he is the good guy, keeping the law in order. I'm interested to see what his role will be in the film.

This short story is a great introduction to Jakku. It sets up how the planet works and the minimal law enforcement that is present.

The design of Constable Zuvio is really cool and I've seen the action figure, but I didn't realize him and his cousins are members of an already existing Star Wars specis. They are Kyuzo, which is the same species as Embo the bounty hunter from The Clone Wars.

This is a crime story with a bit of heist. I really enjoyed the way it played out. I give it a 5/5.

This was a fine, charming little story. It just needed something more. A little push into being more memorable. Otherwise it's a pleasant, short western set on Jakku. I was left wishing we'd at least gotten some little tidbit that made the new canon greater. Alas, this is quite skippable.

pretty good for the .75 I paid

Not bad. Fun little Star Wars western. Good for a quick romp, but I'm glad I only paid .75 cents because I plan on purchasing the print edition.

This is a short story in the collection called: Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away Vol 1.

The chapters were VERY short, and the total pages were 40ish (and it was a small height book). It is also aimed at the younger reader.

Apart from that, it was based on Constable Zuvio, which was a character (or was supposed to be) in Episode 7. Its a western bank robbery, with the Star Wars twist. A little fast paced and straight to the point - the story never develops. For a youngster, this would be fine.

So this is technically a YOUNG READER level short story. A Disney canon short story, it’s short, fun, and a quick read. It can alternatively be found in the collection, Tales From The Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens: Vol. 1.

High Noon On Jakku: 3*

This story was a cool western like police story with a samurai looking constable and his two cousins as his (apparent) only deputies. The desert of Jakku, a robbery, the deserted town involved, and the mental calculation of how quick of a blaster-draw Zuvio could get off all lent to the western, cowboy-esque feel.

Short western style story in the Star Wars universe

Pretty interesting short story that follows a constable in trying to solve a bank robbery case. That said, despite this being a short story, I would've liked a bit more back story for the characters...

Showdown in the Sand

Since Constable Zuvio was essentially cut from the film, this short story occupies the quirky relevance of being the backstory of a peg-warming action figure. Fun bit of lore!

It was a very nice crime drama set in the Star wars universe. It was a good read not necessarily the road to the force awakens

High Noon on Jakku

One of the unfortunate things about The Force Awakens is that so many interesting characters were created for the film and given introductory novelizations, only to have their scenes largely cut out. I get that you can only fit so much into one movie, but it’s a shame how many stories from Journey to The Force Awakens have never been continued in the canon—films or otherwise—in any significant way.

Such is the case with Zuvio, constable of Niima Outpost. I like his style, and the Kyuzo trying to maintain order into the small, self-governing Jakku community is a concept that easily could have turned into a series of short stories. His narrative here is simple and not very noteworthy in the grand scheme of things, but it’s pleasant all the same. I would be happy to see Zuvio’s character further developed in the future.

Landry Q. Walker does an excellent job of distinguishing High Noon on Jakku’s tone from that of The Crimson Corsair, the only other Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far, Away entry I’ve read thus far. While I absolutely loved the mile a minute humor of the latter, I also enjoyed the Western-style of this book. It suits Niima Outpost perfectly without being overbearing and serves as a nice change of pace from all the other Star Wars publications I’ve pored over recently.

These four "Tales From a Galaxy Far, Far Away" aren't as good as "The Perfect Weapon" or the three short stories set amidst the original trilogy, but they're good for what they are; quick glimpses of background characters seen (or in one case, not seen due to late production edits) in The Force Awakens. Unlike the original trilogy books, which did that in the context of big character development stories about the classic four, there's a clear "no main characters" rule in place here in closer proximity to the new trilogy.

This one is the wild west story, following Sheriff (err, Constable) Zuvio, the aforementioned cutting room floor victim, on the case of a bank heist at Niima Outpost. It's not very engaging or mysterious as a whodunnit, but in it's own context the crime is described as a horrible plan. Definitely a fun one, and together with Bobbajo's story and Rey's "Before the Awakening" chapter it helps to flesh out the way of life on sparsely settled Jakku. Frankly, my favorite to mentally visualize, despite some sloppy descriptions of the big shootout.

High Noon on Jakku brings absolutely nothing fresh to the brand new Star Wars canon. It is just another irrelevant story about irrelevant character from The Force Awakens' scene that was in the end cut out of the movie. Spoilerphobes beware.

As the title says, the story takes place on Jakku, Niima Outpost to be specific, where the main character Zuvio, who is the local constable (I'd rather say sheriff) tries to find out who stands behind banking ship (I'd rather say train) robbery.

The whole thing is just a mere western-inspired story forcibly placed in the Star Wars world, with group of characters you don't care about at all, whether you like it or not.

Add a grotesque gang of droids programmed for evil deeds, barren world of Jakku which probably doesn't need any additional descriptions due to its barrenness, the sand and you'll get the general picture of this story. It's coarse and irritating and it gets everywhere.

This short story plays out on the planet Jakku in the new Star Wars canon. Constable Zuvio, the "sheriff" of a small desert town has to deal with a plot involving seemingly rogue droids. As events unfold, a battle takes place reminiscent of an old West shootout, hence the title. Of course all is resolved and justice is served, but more importantly, we get a glimpse into the life of a character seen only briefly on screen in The Force Awakens. It seems as if the new canon is trying to establish itself in the way the "Legends" series has: many stories involving details about minor movie characters that flush out the small details and make the Star Wars Universe seem all that more real.

A Star Wars Western

Another character whose scenes got cut from The Force Awakens gets a little background story here in the form of a tale taken from our own Old West, hence the title. Constable Zuvio watches over his town on the desert planet Jakku just as the sheriff of any American Western might have done. This story involves a bank robbery, a mystery, a little treachery, and a gun duel. It seems as though Constable Zuvio's trusted secretary droid, CZ, is the culprit in robbing a banking ship and must be brought to justice. High Noon on Jakku is a very quick read and an enjoyable one for anybody wishing to get a little more background info on a new Star Wars character who may or may not appear in future films or deleted scenes from The Force Awakens.

This is a cute, fun, and simple bank robbery mystery. The characters were my favorite.  Everyone thinks Zuvio is angry because he's always squinting but it's actually because he can't see well and "on the harsh world of Jakku, better to let people believe he was angry. (pg 6)"  All Zuvio really wants is peace and quiet.

I loved this quote:

CZ-IG5 stared at the blaster he was golding in his stiff white hand.  Anyone who knew the droid well would have thought he looked...sad.

-Landry Q. Walker, Tales From a Galaxy Far, Far Away, Vol. 1: Aliens (pg 17)

I know droids can't look "sad" but for some reason I can imagine exactly what this poor droid looks like.
