I love a good serial killer chiller.

I am not afraid to go to the dark side which is good because this book does indeed do that. This one will thrill many! It absolutely kept me on my toes and fully attentive from page one until the very last word. At times I was just so tense reading certain scenes, this was a book that really did fully engage me as a reader. This one, in my opinion, is an absolute corker!

Some reviews had focused on struggling with the heavy and explicit sexual content and violence so I was expecting something so horrible I could not read it. Not so. If you read serial killer novels, graphic crime or even light horror this book won't bother you at all. I have read much worse graphic descriptions in other books so tend to disagree with those that found it "too much".

Now in saying that, the sexually graphic content in this book does err on the frequent side, but it's very much part of the plot and character portrayal and I just took it in my stride. If you are easily offended though, this might not be for you, as for the rest of you - read it!

There are some very strong characters in this book that are very memorable. Cassie is a strong, self-assured, take no prisoners type of woman. She does not take things lying down (well sometimes if you get my drift). Sexually confident, Cassie likes to be in control and being hunted by a serial killer is not something she is particularly happy about. I loved the way there was the link between her thoughts and and the killer.

I am not going to mention the other key players in this review, as I honestly think they play such a significant role that it's too much of a spoiler. Whilst the plot is fast, intense and thrilling, the characters also make this book a stand-out and to find the combination of a tight plot along with characters that really pop is not that common these days.

The book takes you on a visual and emotional journey through many different scenarios and absolutely has you sucked in that you know where the book is heading. Don't get too comfortable, Eddie Slain has managed to put in some twists that I did not see coming and I had to read some scenes twice to be sure we were on the same page. Brilliant. Genius.

I loved this book, I loved it's dark edges and willingness to push some boundaries. I found the plot interesting, it held my interest really well, I had no issue just turning pages and hooking into this novel. Characters are strong and uncomfortably tangible. Some of them I would not want to meet in a dark alley or even in a brightly lit alley with a crowd of people. We are talking a serial killer here, so they are not normally very light and fluffy are they?

A total winner for me and I award it 5 paw prints. I read a LOT of books featuring serial killers but this one had some very unique aspects to it, including the sexual elements, but again, they are important to the story being told and weaved in exceptionally well. A recommended read for anyone that enjoys this genre of fiction. Nice piece of work Mr. Slain - you have a new fan in me.

This book is a very dark psychological thriller, which is both fast paced and somewhat tense at times.

BLED is raw, brutal, and contains acts of graphic violence, which I would say would be most enjoyed by fans of horror or dark serial killer thrillers. It felt very much like watching a slasher film at times, except I didn’t have a cushion to hide behind, as I was using it to rest my Kindle on.

I’ve grown up reading horror since a young age, so I’m not easily scared or traumatised by graphic content. I don’t read a lot of crime or serial killer novels though. I found that with BLED exposing me to a high amount of sex as well as graphic violence, it did heighten my sense of feeling more disturbed. There is a lot of sex, and not much of the affectionate, loving kind. Even when there are scenes that may be described as erotic, I was unable to view them in that way, as my mind was still dealing with more uncomfortable images from previous pages.

Frank is a great character. He is one of the most grotesque characters I have come across in a book for quite a while. He had me concerned for the author’s state of mind. I thought the author might wish to attend a couple of sessions of anger management or perhaps some intensive counselling, ha, ha. Frank needs to get a grip (excuse the pun) of his sexual urges. If you can get past the amount of sex, and stomach the acts of violence that seem to bring Frank sexual pleasure, then this is actually a really good dark psychological serial killer thriller.

I have discovered that I really don’t like the word ‘engorged’. However, this book did introduce me to one of the best uses for the book Fifty Shades Darker. Despite there being some rather graphic scenes, it’s surprising that the image that has stayed the strongest in my mind is probably one of the least shocking scenes, involving a steering wheel (best not thought about while eating).

I would definitely read more by this author in the future.

Thank you to the author for sending me an eBook copy of BLED, after I won a copy in a giveaway run by Booklover Catlady Publicity.

Bled was a really dark, fast paced serial killer story that was bizarrely hard to put down. Bizarrely, because this wasn't a light easy read. But it gripped you in a sick kind of way and held your attention till the end.
There were some really startling twists in this story, which is why I won't give a summary of the story, as it would be very easy to spoil it.
I should warn that Bled contains extended scenes of explicit sex, graphic violence and coarse language.
Reading a lot of thrillers and some erotic romance, I was neither disturbed by the violence portrayed or by the sex scenes and language used. It was no more overt than in other books of these genres. However, if you are concerned about violence that leaves nothing to the imagination and explicit sex then you may want to give this a miss.
If you don't mind the above, then you'll enjoy Bled as a good serial killer story with some very damaged characters.
Cassie, the female protagonist, had a very volatile personality. I found some of the choices she made difficult to understand. She was almost like two people in one. One minute, she was aggressive and self-assured and the next she would be fragile and lost. That made her really interesting. Her most positive trait was her loyalty to and concern for her friend.
Towards the end, as the action in Italy was really heating up, there was one chapter where the plot moved back to the US. It really broke up the tension and didn't work for me. It was going from thriller to erotic, fluffy love story. I would have preferred to just keep with the thriller and to stay with the dark element.
For a debut novel, this was a really riveting read though. Recommended if you enjoy your thrillers dark, vivid and twisted. 3.5 stars

3.5 stars, will round up on Amazon forums.

After reading this book, I read over some of the other reviews commenting on the explicit sexual situations and excessive gore. As a long-time horror fan, I have to say that while there were a few times when the lengthy sexual encounters sidetracked the overall plot, the gore was not at all what I would consider "excessive". Many of the sex scenes were blended in to better portray the mindset of the main characters, but honestly I feel that the thriller elements would have been more streamlined had a few been left out.

We start off with Cassie, a strong-willed female in an "untraditional" sort of relationship with Frank--the untraditional part being whenever "he feels like seeing her". For the most part, I did admire Cassie's strength and determination. She had an admirable "take charge" attitude--both in the bedroom and out. Unfortunately, there were several scenes where her strength seemed to "crumble" momentarily, and I did not feel that those moments were consistent with her overall personality.

This was a fast-paced thriller, with tension (of all sorts!) on every page. There were several cleverly united threads that weren't tied together until the end. Most readers, I suspect, will not even realize these were being woven into the story to begin with! Overall, a thrilling psychological-erotic read, with a few scenes that I felt could have been cut out to better heighten the tension.

I would try another of this author's books in the future.

What a fantastic debut novel

Bled can described as sick and twisted but in a good way!

Cassie was my favorite character, a strong woman who wasn't afraid to express herself. A real bad ass bitch. She has this somewhat boyfriend, Frank who is a little psychotic, so I thought. But when James entered, the story took a dramatic twist.

This tale was woven so incredibly well, I had a hard time believing this was the authors first go at writing. From the fine detailed characters, to the ever twisting plot, this was a really good read and I recommend it to everyone.

I was encouraged to read this book based on the passion and experience they had for and reading this dark thriller.
It is part of a sub-genre that includes graphic and some may say gratuitous sexual and violent scenes. However, within the context of this story, I certainly understand the author's writing style and it helps to ratchet up the suspense and tension.
I however like a little more thinking space to reflect and interact so this book although well written and with a credible plot sweeps you along with more emotional engagement rather that cerebral reflection.
I enjoyed the aspect of threat and where that danger lies and the twists in the account that are not hidden but cleverly disguised.
I liked the technical treasure hunt and the sense of pursuit but I find the trauma of Cassie's relationship with Frank and wanting to escape I wonder why she didn't really lean to "safe" sex.
The beautiful locations, especially in Italy, were like 2 dimensional scenery in a theatre rather than a living environment. Apart from the dramatic conclusion I felt the story lacked the discriptive setting to lift the narrative beyond the throes of physical engaement and variations on a bedroom rapprochement.

I was forewarned: this book contains explicit scenes of sex and violence. I didn't mind because I read a lot of crime and horror novels and I have a strong stomach. Bled goes beyond anything I've ever read. I still mostly enjoyed it. Cassie is a strong, tough woman who can literally beat up psychos with her bare hands. She has a stalker who follows her all the way to Italy. But she is no damsel in distress; she knows kickboxing and has no qualms about using her skills to defend herself – at one point, I actually cheered! The final scenes are full of tension and I couldn't stop reading. There are some truly shocking twists. But... the very graphic sex scenes just kept getting in the way. I don’t mind explicit sexual content, as long as it’s related to the story. Here, most of the sex is gratuitous and goes on for too long. One scene interrupts the very well written climax with another kind of climax that, in my opinion, disrupted the excellent rhythm of the plot and made it screech to a halt. The story is engrossing and I read it in a few hours, so overall it’s entertaining.

I loved this book. It was very intense and hard to put down. There is a fair amount of gore and lots of eroticism from the point of view of several different characters, and each had a different view of what was sexy to them. This may be over the top reading for some; I read mostly horror, so the gore didn't seem as bad as I was expecting from reading others' reviews but the sex was more explicit than I'm usually reading. To each their own! Ha
Regardless, I wouldn't let reviews scare you away. I'm a new fan of this author!

This book was recommended to me by a friend.

Well it was pretty good actually, the mystery it pretty awesome and all the turns this books takes make you wonder if you're sane or just lost it.

Some Spoilers ahead, I tried it to be the less spoilery I could =)

Cassie was an interesting character, a little bitchy maybe but strong that redeemed her a little, Frank wao the man was insane he was too intense for my likes and well he somehow deserved what he got, and then we have James a man that you think was normal and then everything went wrong.

I disliked some things, but those were my personals problems, usually I don't like sex scenes so rough and well that had me having a love / hate relation with the book.

know if you can dismiss or like those intense sex scenes you should try the book, it will hook you with the mystery of what is happening, why and who is pulling the strings, nothings is as it seems and you will gasp at the end of this story since it's so unexpected.

Many thanks to Maxine from Booklover Catlady Publicity & Reviews and the author as I won a copy of this book in a give away on Maxine's Facebook page.

I have to admit to being quite confused over the genre of this book as from the description it sounds like the ideal thriller/horror story unfortunately it was more like a work of hardcore erotica.

The start of the story as well as the end and the actual storyline itself had all the potential of a great book, unfortunately the constant sexual content really does get in the way of the actual story. Personally for me if the author had at least halved the amount of sex in the story it would have been so much better. I am in no way a prude when it comes to sex but nearly every page had sexual content in it which for me really did detract from the good storyline that was buried underneath it all.

I was very pleased to have won a copy of this book but unfortunately it just didn't work for me.

This is not your typical "murder thriller" and so it took me a little while to adjust to this. It was, however, a gory, highly sexualised story which was very difficult to put down. Cassie, is the main protagonist in this story and we follow her through her relationship with Frank and her escape to Italy where she must do all she can to stay alive. The story shifts between present day and memories/fantasies of the characters and at times we are not sure quite how these fantasies are belonging to.

There is a real depth to Cassie's character which is well written and the care she has for her friend forms large parts of the story.

I am grateful to the author and booklover catlady for a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a new adventure for me. Usually; I do not read horror or crime and or thrillers in general. Maybe once in a blue moon. However, this one was different. It is a fast-paced intense psychological thriller whose subject matter spills into eroticism and coming of age on some level.
First, credit to the author for employing thrilling flashback. The story line revolves around Cassie whose relationship with Frank, a sick-twisted and perhaps mentally unstable fellow goes to the extremes not foreseeable at the begging of the story.
Frank is a fragile serial killer and underdog of James who made him a “man” and instilled some sense of self-worth apart from the slight sense of worthiness that he feels in his relation to Cassie. The girl he reveres and admires so much.
Cassie though a resolute young lady; toys around in their relationship and her indecisiveness to call it quits is the perfect recipe for chaos that follows when she eventually wakes up to her sense and puts to an end their unhealthy relationship only to get the wild raw animal in Frank awake and chase after in Italy when she leaves for holiday break.
Nonetheless, however dark the plot gets as Frank causes tumult in Cassie’s life and the men she involved with in her short-lived stay at Italy. There is eventual liberation and this comes much later at the last quarter of the book and the same for her single friend who eventually opens to the admiral-love that her and his children’s babysitter shares.
For Cassie, she comes as liberated from her tormentor, Frank and also and a strong decisive woman especially regarding her love life.
I am only faulting the author, for the easy, laid back approach to the plot. In some scenes I was totally lost as the point of view shifted from the first to the third and the story-line left bare to a boneless meat such that it felt like a screen script with a character to play out, what he did not apply vivid description to. However this was corrected on the last quarter part of the book which was great relief and lovely ending.

Bled by Eddie Slain Review

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author and Booklover Catlady Publicity in return for a fair and honest review.
Many thanks!

It's not often that a book or story chills me to my very core. I've read some incredibly scary stories and had goosebumps left in its wake. Yet
Bled by Eddie Slain left me shivering with uncomfortable tension and artfully sculpted terror.

Bled is a crime thriller/serial killer tale that takes place during the holidays. Cassie is a young woman caught in a deadly game, where sex
and violence often become intertwined. In Charleston, Illinois, Cassie and Frank engage in a bloody tryst, leaving Frank to limp away battered
and angry. Needing a change of view and to get away from a destructive relationship, Cassie flies to Italy, where she falls for a new stranger
who lights a fire in her heart. Yet the violence and pain of her past quickly catch up to her, and she is left to fight for not only her life,
but the life of her new lover.

Now this is definitely a book I would recommend for adults who can handle sexually descriptive scenes. The horror of death and murder are easily
combined with the sensuous and dangerous exploits of the characters, and the characters are well developed. The descriptive nature of the scenes
and the settings make the book really come to life, playing like a film in the mind. This is a truly horror filled novel, and not only is there
a great twist ending, but it brings to life some truly dark characters that I've seldom read before. If you enjoy graphic, truly chilling stories,
then Bled by Eddie Slain is the book for you!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The original review can be found on www.genuinejenn.com

I enjoy reading horror, psychological and erotica books but usually they are not all rolled into one like Bled. This book is raw, raw, raw. It gets its teeth into you from the first couple pages and hooks you along until you come to the end. This book is not my typical read but I was very interested in seeing how the novel would unfold. I knew from the beginning that it isn't your average horror or erotica novel, it does contain explicit sexual scenes. That in mind I jump in with both feet and an open mind.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. Why? Because I found it hooked my attention right away, kept me picking back up the book until I was finished. I love the writing style of Slain and was fascinated with the story he was able to tell. Never would I have thought Geocaching would be so dangerous.

Cassie is a tough girl, she won't take any crap from anyone especially not her boyfriend, who really needs emotional help and some anger management. She even has some great kicka#$ moves that will get her out of trouble. This book does have abuse emotionally and physically, so there were times that I couldn't wait to get through a certain part. All in all I think Slain did a great job on his debut novel and I can't wait to read more by him.

I received a copy of this book from BookLover CatLady in return for an honest review, Thank you for another great read.

What can I say other than....wow.
Right from the start you're thrown into turmoil,
With what I'd consider disturbed characters and a strange plot.

You follow Cassie on a sex filled adventure as she tries to get away from Frank.
With great and very unexpected twists I was hooked, no matter how....disturbing some areas were.

The characters were interested and well developed, the plot stayed on track and kept me on edge the whole way through. The add in of some religious quotes added in made the whole thing seem almost surreal.

I've read probably more than my fair share of crime novels but this still shocked me in some places, but not enough to discourage me from reading it.

As twisted and shocking as it was I'd read more from the author, it's great and very very unique.

Five stars!

Give it a try as long as you aren't too sensitive.

This novel is disturbing, and I actually feel badly that I can only give it the three stars. While well written with fully developed characters, I was so bothered by the actions of many of the characters that it really is impossible to say I truly "liked" the book.

There is a brutal and mentally disturbed sexual predator at the center of the book. If you are easily offended by violence or graphic sexual contact I really have to warn you off.

If this sort of thing doesn't bother you as much as it does me, your reaction to the book may be different.

Fast paced

This book was intense. It was a little too "dirty" for my preference, but if you like dark erotica books you will love this one. I loved the twist. It surprised me. And I was really happy with the Sue and John part of the story.

Bled... Fast-paced, gripping, shocking, erotic, mind-fuckingly great.

As a reader of the likes of Mo Hayder, Jo Nesbø, Steig Larsson and so on, I found this a great intermediate between the likes of those well established, polished Authors. For the area of prose this erotic-psychological thriller sits in, I personally do *not* find the gore excessive in any such way or form. Bled delves into the shadows of our darker minds to pull out some disturbing, shocking actions and motivations within its characters and that makes for a good read. A fast-moving plot, that keeps you gripped and interested as you turn every page - I mean, I missed my stop on the train for work and got in late on one occasion - this makes for a good, intense read under time constraint.

The character development isn't 100% in my opinion. Cassie's character does go from being a very strong-natured, hardy to quite weak and insecure very quickly in certain areas, but judge that for yourself (I'm writer myself, so I perhaps see this differently). But, this isn't a criticism to warrant a dislike in the book as the general picture and character development, overall is great.

Let's put it this way, I'm not a big reviewer at the best of times, but I enjoyed the read and the journey. I'd like to see more from Eddie Slain and would definitely pick up the next read in an instant if this is the starting blocks of his writing career.

I usually prefer Horror Fiction so this book was a little different to what I’m used to. That said, it was very gripping and each time I put it down, I found myself thinking about the characters and what on earth would happen next.

Firstly, the characters are well established. I really liked Cassie’s character and was routing for her from the beginning.

The last few scenes of the book are what really made it for me and I did get to a point where I couldn’t put it down. I won’t say too much as I wouldn’t want to give anything away but there is a great twist that I was constantly trying to figure out.

I did find that although in some places the sex scenes are relevant to the story line and helped shape the personalities of the characters, in parts the plot was lost in how frequently these x-rated scenes occurred. A few times I found myself skimming through them as I was eager to get back to the plot of the story (and I’m a bit of a prude).

To anyone who likes the thrill of a chase, this book is definitely worth a read. I will be looking out for the next novel by this author.

I haven't read many psychological thrillers but I liked this one.

The story was good and filled with many twists. Just when I thought I knew which way the story was going there was a twist. I liked it and was glad that it wasn't predictable.

Cassie and Frank, were good characters and I liked how you got to see from both viewpoints. You had Cassie who seemed good and normal. Then there was Frank, who seemed very strange.

I knew before reading this book that there would be sexual scenes/violence in it. I've seen many horror/ serial killer films so I knew what to expect. I just felt it was a bit too much for me.

Overall, this story was well written and I would recommend it to fans of horror or thrillers. I would say that if you don't like stories that contain sexual scenes or graphic violence then I wouldn't recommend this.

Well, I'm not going to lie, I'd not made my mind up about this book until the very last page, some chapter, I devoured it, and then other chapters, I was so close to giving up, but I'm glad I didn't!
so the reviews all said this was graphic and explicit, so obviously I jumped at the chance to read it, however, I did think this book could be a lot shorter, there was a lot of unnecessary elements to it, and it dragged on in some parts, but yes, it was very graphic, with both violence and sexual content.
I've changed my star rating six times writing this review, it's definitely a marmite book, but if you enjoy violence and tightly woven stories I can't see you not enjoying it :)

long story short : very graphic, a little too long, but overall, enjoyable :)

As other reviews have mentioned, this book has graphic content. If sex and gore bother you, you may want to skip it. I was not bothered but did think the volume of sexual content was just too much... as in too often. At times I was thinking over half the book was sexual! Not exactly what I was expecting from the description. It is an interesting and entertaining debut novel and I will most likely look into any books that come out next by this author with the hopes that there might be a little more story to it. I would describe this one as a one sitting read, a great thing about it is that I really wanted to see how it wrapped up.

My son won this in the Goodreads Giveaways and I looked forward to reading this as I had heard a lot about it from fellow members of a Facebook book club.
Unfortunately I couldn't finish the book. I was warned about the explicit sex and violence in the book, and although I wasn't offended by any of the actual content it was amount of the sexual content that did - virtually turning into a full on erotica book with a smaller storyline running alongside. I so wanted to like this book and I feel very bad about writing this review but I do believe in being honest about these things.
This is just my view, from other reader reviews this is a very good book and enjoyed by many and I do wholeheartedly wish Eddie Slain continued success with it.

That book caught me with the first pages, and made me hold my breath until the last words of it.

You get dragged into a sick story, with twisted characters, and you just can't imagine how it ends before you get to it.

The writing itself is excellent, you can clearly feel the influence of great dark authors like King, but without being just another copy.

If you are easily scared, frightened, shocked, or underage, that's not for you. But if you are looking for something fundamentally human and brutally honest, where men's evils are not hidden with excuses and women are not just victims, then you may want to read that book.

Confused and mind fckd is how I felt as I read. As we see into a serial killers dark thoughts Cassie's adventure takes some odd turns. I'm not great with words as you can tell but the point of view of each character makes your head spin until it stops and all of a sudden its clear. Keeps you guessing till the end. I will certainty be looking over my shoulder.
