Cocoa La’shey lived a life most girls on the south side of the Bronx only dreamed of. As an only child, Cocoa wanted for nothing – from the lavish mansion, endless bling, and money to blow that was afforded to her by the hustle of her father William La’shey, the most notorious drug lord in the Bronx, Cocoa had it all. Not your average hood rich princess, Cocoa made it a personal priority to learn the business that constituted her family’s wealth. When her daddy’s empire finds itself on the brink of trouble following him being sent upstate on a long bid, Cocoa does the only thing she knows how to do—boss up and take the reins. Over time she takes her father’s cartel and turns it into a more profitable venture than even he was able to manage. Learning her own power and strength in the game, Cocoa decides it may be time to build an empire of her own. But, cutting her father out and double-crossing him could cost Cocoa her life and the respect of her family and friends. As the rising queen of the dope game, she has a decision to make—honor her hustle or honor her family?
Dang! William was locked up and doing the most! I get that Cocoa crossed him but shoots why not try work together. The fight for the top always reveals snakes. Cocoa had one loyal team especially Angelo, Tony and Shorty. After all the years and gun battles, her father succeeded in killing her. What would he have gained from that? Intriguing read
I’m not sure what Cocoa was expecting, but her father’s people are his people. She didn’t earn her empire so why would they respect her. I felt bad for her because she put a lot of trust in the wrong people. Also, why did everyone keep yelling? It didn’t make any sense.
THE RISE OF THE COKE QUEEN is an eye-opening look into the high-living drug underworld of New York.
Cocoa La’shey, a determined business-minded lady, is resolute in her ambition to reach the top. It seems she will stop at nothing, while at the same time she has a trusting side to her that lets others in close. She becomes the 'Coke Queen' of New York by first taking over her father's drug cartel and then going solo, surpassing him and competing with him. Family loyalties are tested as daughter and father come to grips with their opposing goals & objectives. In what is a very deadly industry, the reader finds what takes precedence, business or blood…
Realistic dialogue, rousing characters, and a plot with some surprising twists make this one of the better books I've read in recent years in the genre of Urban Fiction. The story definitely begs for a sequel as it leaves the reader wanting much more.
LuvIt.....Yezzzzzzzzz!!!!! Can't wait to read pt2 & so on...............................................................................................I luv this chick, she is A BEAST FR FR FR FR! !!!!
Damn, this book left me wanting more and confused. Cocoa was that chick, yet she had a lot of mischievous and dangerous ways. It was clear to anyone to not cross her, because no one was off limits her father included. The ware left me, shocked and upset knowing it was a war between father and daughter. I would of never suspected the people that Cocoa love the most to betray her. The book ending left me confused, and wanting more. This a great read that'll have your name dropping. Hearts will be broken, family will be torn, people will get betrayed, and a lot of blood will shed. I recommend this book to everyone.
I will be honest. This book was alright. Coco was annoying to me smh. For her to be all big and bad and hated her father she sure had no problem throwing his named up just to let it be known who she was. She was still living off his name no matter how much she was said she wasn't. Ebonee and her pooping up out the blue was making me raise my brow at her too. Only one I felt was loyal was Angelo smh.
Cocoa is not your average hood chic. She has strategy and goals to take over her father's empire. Of course being a woman she is sure to have some love issues, betrayal and drama. Excellently crafted storyline and character development. I would recommend this to all that like a fast paced, great read. Looking forward to part 2 and much more work from this author.
This was a pretty good read. It started off kinda slow for me, but as I kept reading, it started to pick up speed. It was full of twists and turns. Cocoa had a lot going on. She made me tired just reading her story. She really messed up when she crossed the wrong person. I am excited for this author, and I can't wait to see what she brings to the table next.
All I can say is these authors just keep getting better. Well done Vette!! Complex storyline excellent character development. Man some cold people in this read. I like Cocoa n Angelo. This is great book if you like the dope game n all that comes with it. Will look forward to more!! Well done
I'm so lost!! I honestly do not know what I read!! I can't think of anything that I actually liked....I only kept reading because I thought I would get drawn in and I was trying to see what was going on by continuing to read....disappointed...
