A Stand-Alone Christmas Novel from a Popular Series! Steven’s brother and his family have come to visit for the holidays. Looking for a relaxing and quiet location to enjoy the scenic beauty of Puget Sound, Steven chooses Point No Point, the oldest lighthouse in the region. Here, the lighthouse keeper’s quarters have been remodeled into a vacation rental, and it seems to be the perfect location. Perfect, if your idea of quiet is loud thumpings coming from the abandoned museum next door. Perfect, if your idea of relaxing is a slow, creeping infection emanating from the shipwrecks just off the shore. In this stand-alone novel, Steven and his father Roy find their picturesque Christmas holiday turning into a family nightmare as they unravel the haunted secrets from the deadly shores of Point No Point. A Christmas Haunting at Point No Point is the eleventh novel in The River series, but no prior knowledge of the series is required to enjoy it. Praise for The River series from Amazon “Truly scary.” "Finally found a book that got under my nerves!" “Couldn't put it down...wanted the story to go on and on.” “Very few authors can pull me in immediately and make me feel as though I were reading about old friends. Stephen King always has, and I can now add Michael Richan to the list.” "Awesome ghost story with wonderful characters and a great plot!" “Some of the most delightful reading I have done in a long time.” "This was a great horror book. I absolutely loved it, and I know you will too! Keep the lights on when reading!"

A CHRISTMAS HAUNTING AT POINT NO POINT by Michael Richan is a standalone novel in his "River Universe" series. This holiday haunt is the perfect introduction to "The River" for new readers who might be otherwise daunted by the prospect of "where to begin"--especially since it has now evolved into three interconnected branches of main characters and locations.
We begin with our "original" characters, father and son duo, Roy and Steven. This year, for the first time in a great while, Steven's brother Bernard (Bernie) is coming up with his family: wife, Marlene, and daughter, Emily. In order to make sure that they have plenty of space, Steven rents out the light keeper's former quarters on Point No Point. Alongside the apartment they are in, the other half of the duplex contains the erratically run Lighthouse Museum.
It doesn't take long before supernatural events begin manifesting themselves in horrific ways, and danger seems to follow their every move.
This book had everything you could need to wet your feet in the River series without initially having to go back and read each and every volume (although you may want to after reading this tale!).
Roy and Steven are true to their nature (for those that are further into the series), and I really enjoyed having a look into the "other side" of their family, in order to contrast the two brothers' attitudes and beliefs.
The character of Steven's niece, Emily, was also done very well, and I am hoping to see her return to another novel later down the road.
In this book author Michael Richan introduces us to some new characters. Bernie is Roy's other son, Marlene and their daughter Emily. Steven decides that Christmas time, would be a good time to have a family reunion. Steven wants a place where there will be plenty of peace and quite. So Steven decides that he will rent the lighthouse keepers quarters at one of the oldest lighthouses overlooking Pugent Sound, Point No Point. Bernie and Roy do not get along and that could be a problem. Bernie has not seen Roy in many years. Steven, hopes that this gathering, might help the family mend their relationships. Bernie and Marlene are always fighting over some petty thing. The two don't care who they fight in front of. Right next to the lighthouse keepers quarters, is a small historical museum. From her room at night, Emily hears a thud coming from the museum. No one else can hear this and at first Emily think that she may have been dreaming. The noise is like a nightmare and it returns every night. Roy and Steven decide to drop into the river, to see what they can find out. Roy and Steven know that there is something that inhabits the old museum. This is where all the creepy things begin to happen. Can Roy and Steven win the battle over evil? This is a stand alone Christmas novel. I am wondering if we may see Bernie or Emily in future books. I highly recommend this book!
This is another author that I have never read before and it seems to have become a theme during Christmas that I find new authors that I like. This is said to be a stand-alone novel but I think that even though it can be read without having read the previous books it still might be a good idea to read them to lend more context to the story. Reference is made to situations and people from previous books which can make it hard to understand what is happening sometimes. This was a really good ghost story with subtle but very interesting and well thought out imagery.
Steven's brother and his family are coming for a visit during the holiday's after years of staying away. To make things more comfortable for his brother he decides to rent a location for their vacation that will be neutral and hopefully help everyone enjoy themselves. Steven settles on Point No Point, the oldest lighthouse in the region, which offers the lighthouse keepers house as their vacation spot. The family finds their holiday turning into a nightmare as they start to notice changes in each other and try to figure out the haunted secrets of Point No Point things take a turn for the worse.
This was a very enjoyable story that had me from beginning to end as I tried to figure out what was going on along with them. The characters were fantastic and the scenery was what you would expect from the Pacific Northwest right down to the weather. It gave me great visuals. The slow build was perfect and added to the atmosphere that was being built within the house.
Which is more enticing – Christmas with the family or with the paranormal?
For those of you not familiar with Michael Richan’s work – this is a great place to start! Written as a standalone novel, it introduces Roy and Steven – a father and son team that are gifted in the world of the paranormal, and their adventures in “the river”. The author describes this gift as “the ability to use the mind to enter the river of unseen things, swirling constantly around you, hidden from normal view.” In this book, Roy and Steven decided to invite Roy’s other son, Bernie, and his family up from Texas to spend a week at a Light House retreat in the Upper North West. The cabin Steven has chosen is connected to the local museum and gift store. Not having the best of relationships, Roy and Steven are not sure if Bernie also has the gift, but decides not to press the matter.
After a few hours at the cabin, it does not take long to realize that Bernie and his wife, Marlene, have a competition of finding new things to argue about. Their typical teenage daughter, Emily, fears she will be bored stiff the entire week they are there, until she meets the guest, an associate of Roy and Steven, who was invited for Christmas dinner.
The first morning brings hints to Steven and Roy that the hopes of having a “paranormal – free” vacation is not going to happen. Emily and Marlene relate that the night was filled with unexplainable bumps and cries. Bernie’s attitude slowly worsens. Looking for answers, Roy and Steven start with the attached gift shop. The volunteer there tells them “you stay a whole week, the place will really seep into you”, she has no idea how true that statement is. And the adventures continue. . . .
There is not one boring page in this entire book. If you are looking for an exciting Christmas Story, that has nothing to do with Christmas, but a lot about family and paranormal events, then this is the book for you to read. Michael Richan is my favorite paranormal author. After reading his 17 novels and 1 novella, all based on “The River” I have not found 1 book that I did not like. Enjoy!
Nothing But Love. What a great addition to The River series. Loved that we finally got to meet Bernie and his family. Hope they will make an appearance again. Really liked how the family holiday was, even with the whole haunting thing, kind of normal to begin. No one can get under your skin and push your buttons like family. The haunting just pushed things to the extreme. Keep them coming Michael Richan! You keep writing I promise to keep reading. :)
I love all of these books. The River series is such an enjoyable read. The characters of Stephen and Roy keep getting better and more 3 dimensional, and the storylines draw you in and keep you reading late into the night.
