Ed is the author of the post-apocalyptic Breakers series and the epic fantasy series The Cycle of Arawn. A former New Yorker and Idaho-guy, he currently lives in the LA area. His short fiction has appeared in a whole bunch of magazines and anthologies.
A brilliant trio of stories following the exploits of the characters in the Breakers series.
There are familiar characters and some new ones. There are twists and turns. There is plenty of action and a deep philosophy of wisdom that brings depth to the story as a whole. The characters have their flaws and strengths, and are certainly believable. Great sense of place.
I have reviewed each book separately so will just say bravo, truly entertaining.
This series was fantastic. I could not put it down. There's something happening around every corner and I was so engrossed with all of the characters, it was like being there. I could see this as a movie, it had everything - love, hate, happiness, sadness, action, drama, etc. I never read books twice, but these I would as there is so much going on, I'd be sure to glean something new the second time around.
I am a huge fan of a post apocalyptic world and this is, hands down, the best series I've ever read. It's beautifully written, perfectly paced & the characters are real & relatable. I love how they've all grown & evolved during the series. I'm not sure I'm going to do once I've finished the last book.
Great series, and incidentally begins with a virus. I found the characters were rich and alive, some of the story lines got weak. But as a whole it captured me and i still post it on Facebook and recommended to everyone.
This is a great series. Definitely not what you would call deep literature, but damn exciting with characters you come to love. When the hell is this going to be a TV series @netflix
Very well written, even tho the cadence is a bit predictable after you’ve read a few in the series. Still, I look forward to reading the next few as well.
I loved the heck out of these things. They were so exciting and filled with novel ideas about the apocalypse. Couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read the next one.
Much much too long. So many pages... thousands of pages... It goes on and on and on with mostly foreseeable plots. Towards the end I simply couldn't stand it any more.
This was exactly what I expected: a continuation of the excellent stories from books 1-3. I enjoyed them very much, and would definitely recommend them to anyone who enjoyed the earlier books. To me, the ultimate test is whether I want to continue reading the series, and I'm definitely planning to read book #7.
That said, I have to drop a star for what was, at times, poor proofreading and/or editing. I don't usually mark down books for that -- most books have a few typos. But sadly, they were numerous enough here to be a distraction while reading, a problem that I didn't have with the first three books.
Found this set of books even more compelling than the first 3. Timeline is approximately 6 years after the invasion and things have moved on, or not, as the case may be. We re-discover familiar characters in unfamiliar settings, but the books move on apace and are difficult to put down.
I was a little disappointed at the end of book 6 as I thought it was the end of the series and the ending wasn't what I was expecting, but there are 2 final books which I have yet to read. Bring it on!
Wish it wasn't over. Loved the series. Will have to start another book by this author. I have recommended it to all my friends who are readers. I enjoyed the way the author developed the characters. The series was very entertaining.
Don't get thrown off by the sci fi aspect of these books, they are so much more than that!!! Love to see these brought to life in a game of thrones type series! Great material!!!
I love this series. The author's writing flows so well its easy to get absorbed in what's happening with each character. I think they are realistic enough and don't always have a happy ending.
One of the best series I've ever read. The characters are flawed, aren't always that likable, and make their share of mistakes, which only makes me like them more. Someone introduced in one book is probably going to be back in a later story. Think of Robinson's books as a multi colored braid, expertly woven into a whole.
