My Dream Man

"I need to write. I need to sit my ass on that chair and write. I haven't written in ages. Actually I haven't written for the past two years. Rather the past one year, ten months and seventeen days." - from My Dream Man

In her debut novel in the romance genre, Aditi Bose has portrayed romance in an altogether new light. Her prose is realistic, candid, sympathetic and romantic - all at the same time. She doesn't miss out on the humorous bits either. My Dream Man is a novel about the female protagonist's inner desires and the challenges that the reality offers.

Ajopa Ganguly is a girl in her twenties who lives with her parents in Delhi. Her life is fine except for one tiny problem. All publishers have rejected the manuscript that she has very painstakingly written. She believes it's more because she is not a known celebrity rather than because the plot is not appealing enough. She is so disturbed by this that she has been baking cupcakes and embroidering handkerchiefs instead these days. This is when Aniket Verma re-enters her life. He is a professor of economics who is well known in his circle. He's twelve years older to Ajopa. They had been good friends till a misunderstanding happened five years back.

What happens when they meet again is what the story is all about.

An honestly written book, My Dream Man, is insightful as it examines how forces beyond our control help us make personal decisions. As Ajopa says, it is all about "deep choosing".

** I received a ‘Signed-copy’ of ‘My Dream Man ’ in exchange for an honest review**

Quiet frankly, I am still trying to figure out the reason behind choosing or approving this Book-Cover design. 'My Dream Man', does not talk about erotic art of love or bondage lovemaking, so snap out of it!! I myself had a tough time explaining my parents "do not go by the book cover to judge the content of the book, ma! It is most definitely not what you think I am reading" It's not like I don't read erotic books but then it could get little embarrassing sitting among people and reading a book with such book covers and explaining "DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER". Yes! I learnt it the most awkward way EVER possible!!

Through 'My Dream Man', the author Aditi Bose has shared her life finding the man she loved and her struggle in realising the difference between 'crush' and 'love'. Aditi aka Ajopa falls in love with her Economics professor, Aniket Verma and throughout her phase of growing up from a teenager to an adult women, she has always fantasised about him. 'The one true love' as I would like to call it.

The story is very well written, the writing style is very unique as the author chooses to write as a diary entry/journal sharing her life experiences with the readers, the language is simple yet elaborate, the characters are well defined and the best part is interesting plots with a final SUPERB twist at the end. That was my favourite part!

The plot is realistic and uncomplicated which makes it a great read.
The flow is quite swift and language is easy to comprehend.

The characters are depicted clearly and adding quotes of famous writers with chapter names is refreshing. The story is very down-to-earth and simple.

The cover is one of its kind. some at their first glances may make it to be an erotica though.
The epilogue was not needed i felt.
The struggle of a writer and inner conflicts are well illustrated.

I wish Aditi all the success for this wonderful debut novel.

What can be better than an end which can make you smile. A proper showdown and blend of extra spices the book contained, before the curtain was about to fall. I loved the middle, liked the end and was involved with the beginning. The author has tried to show her best colours in the pages of “My Dream Man” and I am happy to say that she hasn’t failed. It was a book which I can read once again just to dive in with Ajopa and meet Aniket in the way.

Reviewed on A Bookworm’s Musing: http://wp.me/p2J8yh-319

Positive aspects:
+ Story idea, to write the story as the character writing a story
+ Not very mushy
+ Focuses on the main character of Ajopa, and does it justice
+ Ajopa’s father’s character

Negative aspects:
- Cover art; doesn’t appeal, and doesn’t feel relevant to the story
- Very long initial introductions to Ajopa and Aniket
- The twist at the middle did not work for me

My Dream Man, by Aditi Bose, a review
The stewardess scrutinised the book in my hand and gave me an amused look, or so I thought. My co passengers too seemed to share her views. Maybe I was oversensitive, having been ribbed earlier by my harshest life critics, my two daughters, who also suggested that I would enjoy Desperate Housewives and Sex and the City. Gender stereotyping of the worst kind maybe, but a middle aged man cannot be seen reading a book with shocking pink cover, called My Dream Man, with a modernist rendition of some Kama sutra illustration on the cover. Fifty Shades of Gray may have been more indulgently accepted, but a Mills and Boones would have crucified me similarly.
Having read an earlier book by the Author, Aditi Bose, called Hamaguri goes to School, which had impressed me, I bravely plunged on.
A word here, Hamaguri was purported to be a children’s book, but was really a parenting guide. I was meant to review. But I dared not, as going by the reviews of my offspring on my parenting style; parenting is one job I am least qualified to comment on. This is by way of an explanation and apology to the author.
Dream Man soon had me chuckling and nodding in agreement. Disguised as mush, probably as per the dictates of the agent or publisher, this is a sort of autobiography of a young intelligent girl who wants to be a writer. She talks to her readers, meanders around, comments on diverse subjects that occupy the mind of someone like her, from food cravings to boring lectures; from drooling over men to writers block; from intrusive parents to interfering relatives. This builds a rapport with the reader.
The language is free flowing, easy, chatty and witty. This is a bright young writer, and even in an m&b kind romance, the brightness and wit shine through, often tongue in cheek.
This also works as a guide to wannabe writers like yours truly, and the pitfalls that come in the way, like copying styles we think may sell, and pressures from the agent to write in a certain way. Maybe that’s where the pink came from.
The plot is in standard romance format, which, judging by the other titles by the publisher, Authors Ink Publications seem to specialise in. This is about the romance between a gorgeous teacher and a bright young PYT; A bit of wishful thinking by the author perhaps? I will not disclose any more of the plot so that the little twists in the tale come as a surprise to the reader.
I wish the pink cover gets the desired readers, and others are not scared off by it, so that the book is a hit, and we see more coming from this talented youngster, whether erotica as hinted in the book, or more sensitive stories.
I for one am looking forward for more titles in all colours of the rainbow.

Not often do I read romance fiction, nor they are written well versed in first person narrative. Aditi Bose's latest contribution to contemporary romance genre is a light read, and you might be mildly impressed as I was, by the choice of her words, the humour, the verse well written, and the combination will drive the reader forward without the plot being too complicated.

The story is about an ambitious yet a struggling writer, wanting all the success those limited amount of contemporary writer get out of their words. Ajopa Ganguly. A girl in her twenties who lives with her parents in Delhi. She does not take the 'rejection' she receives from the publishers on reading her manuscript. Instead, she tries to kill the sadness that comes along with 'rejection' by making cupcakes and embroidering handkerchiefs.

The mind of a writer is a curious one, and a curious mind will often seek redemption once the short term task has been fulfilled. That is when she meets the lost love of her life, who is twelve years elder than her and yet has the charm which once duped her enough to dwell with him for the lifetime.

The plot is not at all complicated. I would say it is mainstream but I like the subject it considers especially in the so called modern society of India such as the age disparity between a couple, and struggle in the twenties. The characters are quite realistic, especially with setting of the novel. The experimental twist the author tries in between did not work out for me and I was not impressed by it. The language is beautiful, excellent I would say. The timeline is contemporary but does not have much influence over the story overall.

I am impressed by Aditi's writing and will not shy from her works in future.

This book is a light and fresh read.
It grabs my attention from the starting itself.
There are many things which i learned from this book.
The characters are well described.

The story revolves around the protagonist Ajopa Ganguly, she is ambitious
Her father dont like her writing.
It shows the struggle of author. Her script got rejected by one and all.But this doesnt mean that she stop writing.Money is a trigger for her.If there is no money paid for the work done, then what's the use of it.
Earlier she stopped writing ,instead she used to do painting, making cupcakes.creating embroidered handkerchiefs. Mainly she dont like too much criticizing. Basically her life is still fine, only her career is messed up.
The ending was as usual
I loved everything about this book.

The author has good knowledge about writing and how to seek attention of the readers.
I absolutely loved reading this book.I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

My Dream Man is written by Aditi Bose who is a content writer & has even written another book for children. Even as a child she had a passion for maintaining a personal diary & travel journals which might have been a start of developing her writing skills.

I am impressed by the choice of Aditi's words, the humour and their combination which drive the reader forward to this book. However, I didn’t much like the cover. It is quite misleading. It hints at it being an erotica which the book isn't.

The story is about an ambitious yet a struggling writer, wanting all the success out of her words. The struggle of a writer and the inner conflicts are well illustrated.

I like the subject the book considers - the age disparity between a couple. The characters are quite realistic. The characters are depicted clearly and adding quotes of famous writers with chapter names is something I found refreshing. Aditi describes everything so vibrantly that you can picture even the minutest detail in your mind!

The plot is realistic and uncomplicated which makes it a great read. My Dream Man is a fun one-day, decent read for when you're in the mood for something light-hearted and relaxing.

My Dream Man by Aditi Bose is a well written book .Why well written ? because it has Ajopa Ganguly and Aniket Verma as lead protagonist in her book .Ajopa Ganguly is restless and confused who does zillion things at a time whereas Aniket Verma is a matured intellectual Economics professor who had taught Ajopa Economics .What must have happened , when they meet each other for the second time …Nothing must …all old memories flows back like river .Now here the author Aditi Bose with her mighty pen has weaved her characters emotions like sadness , heart ache and love precisely and accurately with a mixture of Drama and Commotion around them .Her want to do become something could be easily felt by each and ever girl of Ajopa Ganguly′s age and want of man to settle down with a person whom he loves , could be felt too….via Aniket Verma ′s behaviour .

And how they help each other to get to the point for what they are meant for is wroth reading a zillion times .

Actually I can say My Dream Man is written by Ajopa Ganguly herself for the girls , ladies and women who are as confused like her and are aimlessly doing zillion things .I would say it is highly recommended to all especially the confused ones .

I Thank the author ,booksreviewteam and Debdutta Sahey for sending in ARC of ‘My Dream Man’

I have received a signed review copy from the author through book r3vi3 tours.

The story is about a struggling writer Ajopa, who stays away from her love of writing for some time fearing of rejections from publishers. Tries her hand on many other things, but couldn't stay long on any of them due to her interest in writing. A girl in her twenties, she meets her old crush Aniket, an Economics professor who is 12 years older than her. How her life changes after his return and will she at last write and publish her book forms the remaining story.

After seeing the cover, I expected it to be an erotic romance. But, It was misleading. Font of the text in the book is small and is not very comfortable for a quick read.

The narration is very simple. I felt as if I am listening to some friend talking to me directly. But, I felt, it is more casual and jumping between different incidents quickly as if we are thinking fast in our mind. The author is successful in explaining the character and the shades of Ajopa very well. The story successfully portrays a budding writer's struggle, her ambitions and inner conflicts.

Overall, a good contemporary romance and a light read.

What sets the book, My Dream Man, different from other books is that the way it is written. It appears that the author is talking to you while writing the book, there are conversations and then there are distractions making it appear very real. There is humor without an overdose and overall it is very witty. The characters of the book are very well defined and you can easily relate to them. The only thing that doesn't relate to the book, according to me, is the pink colored book cover with an erotic illustration as the story isn't about erotica or author's fantasy. It is one of the best first person fiction books that I have read and would recommend it to anyone who loves to read romance fiction. This is a story of a girl from Kolkatta who moves into Delhi. She develops a crush on her Economics tutor. After sometime, they part ways, only to meet years later. Also, the protagonist writes a novel, which gets rejected by all the places where she tries. Finally, is everything ends happily or is it a tragedy forms the rest of the story.

First I would like to mention that I got this book free in a giveaway contest hosted by author on goodreads.

This book is a fictional love story. It has got good humor content throughout.
Presentation is also good. The book starts of well. I liked the way the love story started, it was simple and likeable.

But the story could have been better. As mentioned earlier, it's a simple love story and hasn't got much twists and turns.
There is one unconventional twist where the protagonist imagines certain incidents which I personally did not like much but it was a good try I felt.

Overall 3 stars.
