In the tenth Jack Taggart Mystery, Taggart goes head to head with a longtime enemy who’s been eluding him for years …
Jack Taggart is once again going head to head with his nemesis, Damien Zabat, national president of the Satans Wrath Motorcycle Gang. Taggart and Zabat’s lives have long been intertwined by a violent history of retribution and murder, dependent on unwritten rules of conduct ― rules far outside the parameters of the law, but that each man feels are just. To Taggart, Zabat represents an unspeakable evil. He has eluded justice and left behind a trail of death.
As Zabat approaches retirement, his son, Buck, joins the gang. When Taggart obtains evidence to send Buck to jail, he gives Zabat two days to disclose the details of a new European cocaine connection in exchange for his son’s freedom. Zabat’s refusal leads Taggart to gamble with his own life in a desperate attempt to destroy the man he has long been after. It is a gamble he wishes he had never taken.
Thanks to a Goodreads giveaway I got to read this great book by a Canadian writer that I had not yet discovered. Jack Taggart is quite the hero and I really enjoyed the way the author explains how cases are built by the RCMP for prosecution in Canadian courts.
First a minor disclosure: The author, Don Easton, and I share a publisher. I'm a sucker for good mystery/thrillers and this is the first time I've read a book by Easton. This one is set in the Lower Mainland of BC, primarily Surrey, and focuses on the drug trade and biker gangs. It's gritty, dangerous, and at times quite horrifying. Jack Taggart is an undercover cop who runs informers in the Satan's Wrath gang. If I say much more it will spoil the story for readers.
A Delicate Matter is a page turner that puts the reader right in the middle of this dark, shadowy world where anything is done for money and revenge. The characters are well-drawn and differentiated on both sides of the law. If I'm have one piece of feedback, much of this book is dialogue with less action than I expected.
Otherwise I would recommend this to readers who like urban contemporary mysteries.
Jack Taggart pulls through again! Thoroughly enjoyed another great novel in the series! Full of unexpected surprises, twists & turns, Jack is out to take down his long-time nemesis, while dealing with biker gangs, informants, murders & the drug trade. We experience it with him from both sides of the law. Although I liked that violent acts were less graphically-described than previous, I could still envision the crime scenes in my mind. The unexpected ending left me hanging in suspense & anxiously awaiting his next novel...
I LOVE Jack Taggart! What a guy! Talk about leaping tall buildings. Anyway, I have enjoyed every Jack Taggart Mystery Book and this was no exception.
I just hope this isn't the last - there were hints that Jack might hang up his spurs now he has two boys. I hope not. I want him to tangle with and beat the new leader of Satan's Wrath.
I don't want to give any of the plot away, so I'll just say, get this one ASAP!
Awesome roller coaster ride through the biker crime world, with an experienced and savy driver in charge. Having read all of Eastons previous novels, it was nice to go back and re-visit long time relations, enemies, and cohorts, in what proved to be a thrilling experience.
