God is a Matchmaker

Rate this book
Derek Prince relates how God led him into marriage - first with Lydia; then, after Lydia's death, with Ruth. 'The first time, I really did not understand what God had done. Then, when the process was repeated in my second marriage, I came to realise that God had followed the very same pattern He Himself had established at the dawn of human history - a pattern He has ordained to stand unchanged until human history reaches its consummation.' It is this divine pattern for entering into marriage that is the central theme of this book, providing engaged couples, counsellors and ministers with a clear and reasoned presentation of the steps leading up to a successful marriage lived in the will of God.

There’s a ton of solid, lasting wisdom for single people in this book. Much less a textbook for ‘how to get married’ as much as a practical guide to developing into someone ready for life (not just marriage!) and a spiritual guide to living in faith and trusting God with your relationships. I p was particularly impressed by how accountable Derek held himself to wise friends and their input throughout his journey to marriage; something to redeem in our independent, self-sufficient age.

It’s only slightly let down by Ruth’s chapter for women, which has some advice that dates the book a little, but is by no means outrageously objectionable.

Have recommended (and lent out) to several of my female friends so far.
