Quintell ‘Q’ Santos was returning home from a two year bid he had to serve when he got caught with a gun charge. His boys Preston and Presley, who were identical twin brothers, held him down as well as his big brother Martell. Q had his chick Skylar in his corner as well, or at least, that’s what he thought. When Q swore he was coming home to focus on getting his paper back up and nothing else, he was reunited with the chick he felt was meant to be his in the beginning. He’d wanted her before he got locked up, but he wasn’t letting her get away that easily this time.Meanwhile, Harlem ‘Lem’ Santana was living in hell with her boyfriend Dreon until he went beyond too far and had Harlem in the hospital and distanced from her friends and family. Harlem found the strength to leave Dre and relocating was her first move. She vowed to herself to stay away from men for a while because she’d gone through a lot with Dre and wasn’t looking forward to Dre part two. However, one of her friends, Shayn asked her to attend the welcome home party of the man Harlem had been interested in when she met him in college right before she met Dre. When Harlem, Shayn and their other two best friends, Rena and Renae, who were also identical twins, made it to the club that night, everything in her life changed. Some for the good and some for the worst, but there is only so much Harlem can take once she realizes she is not only facing demons of her own past; she has to face everyone else’s as well.Once skeletons begin to fall out the closet, there are all sorts of chaos that leads to a domino effect. There are fights, cheating, beatings and deep, dark family secrets that could possibly lead to some incest. Everyone has a past and it’s only a matter of time before it come back to bite you. Let’s just see who can survive a thing of the past.
Let me start by saying that author Shaytrece is an awesome writer and this story will probably be well liked by others. The writing as per her standard was professional, good plot and the editing was on point. Now out of all her books this is my least favorite. For some reason I was unable to connect with the main character Harlem. She was weak to me. For example when they were in the club and shooting broke out she went and ran in the bathroom and was crying until she fell asleep and was found by his security team. Any other alpha male would not have left until he knew without a shadow of a doubt that his lady was safe; and most women would have trying to help protect their king. WHAT THE WORLD?????? Seriously where do they do that at. I thought she was a weak woman when she found out that Q's dad was her dad and she ran to New York and just cut all contact between her children and their father for a year. I would have respected her more if she just decided she didn't want to deal but left the gate open for Q to have a relationship with his kids. I think that there was a gap or missing chunks of time that were glossed over leaving the reader to feel like they missed something. For example Shayne and her high school sweetheart Malik I believe was his name were thick as thieves and then all of a sudden fast forward 1 year and they are no longer together because he was cheating. Only a small blurb was dedicated to this and then we were on to the next scenario. The whole Pres and Nae relationship conflict didn't make any sense to me because I honestly don't understand how there would be an issue with her dating her brother in law's twin brother. That isn't a legitimate or plausible excuse as to why a relationship wouldn't work for them. I just felt the story was rushed and the segues and transitions weren't as smooth as they should have been. Will I read more of this authors work? ABSOLUTELY. I have read her other books and they were magnificent this one just didn't do it for me.
One thing that irked me in the book is when Question called Harlem and she didn't answer the phone, the author said being a man with pride he didn't leave a message. I thought that was the dumbest thing ever to come out of the authors mouth. Maybe she thought it sounded cute. What does pride have to do with leaving a message? Since he didn't leave a message seems like he was playing games. Sometimes these authors say dumb things and this was one of them. As messed up as the situation was Harlem wasp dead wrong for treating Q. Like the enemy. She was wrong for taking his children. I hate women like that. So I lost respect for her. Harlem was a little too childish for me. The situation about Q's stepfather being Harlem and tell's father was a lot but the way they were treating him was wrong. At the end of the day no matter how much Harlem was mad at Mr. Santos Q still loved him as a father and she should have respected him too. It was in the past. Time to move on. U can't stress over things u can't control. So get over it. If anything the minute it came out that Harlem and q could be siblings his mother should have been honest.
This book was REALLY good. I like the way that Q and Harlem had a connection from the beginning that connection turned out to be a Beautiful romance. The love they had for each other was unbreakable. Even in the midst of turmoil and a serious secret revealed they seemed to hold it together. I like the friendships the characters had they all went hard for each other. Dre is a weak individual and I hope he gets what he deserves. It was so many secrets and so much drama I am on pins and needles waiting for the next installment to see what happens next. Very good read.
I tried really hard to finish this book but I couldn't. Q was a good man and Harlem's decision made no sense! Q's personality in the book was very inconsistent. His character was sweet, loyal, and dominant. It was hard to believe that Q allowed Harlem to do the things she did and just except her right back but blow up on small things. I think with a little more feedback in the writing process and a few changes this could be a good book.
First read by this author n loved it!! Started out being my favorite hood book then everything became crazy. Love the friendship n loyalty the girls n dudes have. Lem n Q meant to be together. Love Tell. Must read this some crazy story here. Well done reading pt 2 now!!
This was a great read from beginning to end. Q and Harlem are the couple of the day. The storyline was full of twists and turns and their relationship kept me on my toes. I couldn't stop turning the pages. They ran into a lot of obstacles in their relationship, but somehow, they conquered them all. I can't wait to see what is in store for them in part 2.
Q and Harlem some kin dang daddy Kelvin. Skylar and Dre should have been together. They just couldn't let go. Q had me wondering about his love for Harlem. I love the crew and their closeness. Rena and Renae are twins. Martell became a rapper. Can't wait for part two
Mane o mane this was good. Harlem and q boy was this relationship crazy but they manage to overcome all obstacles now that the biggest secret is out between their families. The divas are some head bussas but they ride for each other. A great read want disappoint.
The storyline was way too unbelievable. What kind of mother keeps children away from their father for a year. It was just too much. Nothing about the story seemed real.
I really enjoyed reading a story based in my home town. It was well written with an excellent storyline. I read this all at once simply because I couldn't put it down!! I'm definitely reading the sequel
These 2 fall in love have twins then find out that they might be brother and sister, omg, well they are not but his half brother is her brother, after dealing with all this they each have holdovers that will not go away
This is a crazy thing they have going on and I was so happy to find out Q and Lem weren't brother and sister, I will be glad when the get rid Dre and Sky. It's a trip how both set of twins are together.
I'm glad that I'm able to catch up on the series. I got confused while reading An Iconic Love because at the time I didn't know that the two books somehow intertwined. So far this is a good read can't wait to see what's next. I love that damn Q and Harlem.
It was a good opportunity for me to get the back story from characters from the Iconic love series. Same general format as the others. it was more interesting to me than books 3-6 of the other series.
