I started reading this and could not stop so I was sneaking off to quite corners when I was forced to attend a family gathering, this really kept me going! I finished it half way through the day which sucked and I've just got home and started this review because I will end up forgetting how i felt and yada yada, so here goes..

Stabled is book 1 in a trilogy and ends in a cliffhanger, it's not for those who don't enjoy darker elements in books or one who likes to stick to the 'norm'.This is the first book I have read by Penny Lam and lets be honest it's probably not going to be the last.
Maple is a quite, sort of shy woman with a dark past, one that she can't seem to run from.When hired by a rich cowboy called J.B. Deyton things end up getting worse instead of better.It's like her she just can't escape her dirty little past maybe it's time to embrace it. Her curiosity ends up getting her in to a lot of bother,secrets are revealed and there are some things you just can't come back from.
I'm so confused about how I feel about this book, like uhm wow this was soooo not what I had expected.I'm still trying to kind of get my head around it. I started this and thought it would be a cowboy romance, I missed out the part where it was a dark romance. I see how it is, there are quite a few dark elements to it which I usually try to stay away from. I've read books with the whole hardcore pain and pleasure element of it and it's fine when its a little bit but too much and it puts me off the book. If I know it will be in the book I usually avoid the book, it's just not my thing but..this worked.
I'm so intrigued with what will happen next, never have I read the whole 'pony girls'thing which you will understand what I mean when you read it. I don't want to give anything away.It's just a book you have to read to understand, even though I don't even fully understand this.Like whaat? When did this become a thing? Its weird yet I want to carry on and see how things go.
My thoughts on Maple are confused,I don't get her kind of kink, I want to see J.B's reaction when she tells him of her past.J.B is a bloody mystery. What are you? I would love a chapter in his POV just to get more insight to his character and past.I can't wait for book 2!

The author has good writing chops, but I had to quit at 84%.
The h was annoying and weak as hell, and the H was sexy/hot, but not redeemable, due to his 'side business'. I don't mind a little BDSM in some of my reads, and I like a lot of dark romance. This ain't it.
Won't be continuing the series. Deleting from my Kindle.

- heroine yang luka batin karena kesalahannya sendiri di masa lalu dan menggalau tiada henti hampir di 50 persen awal buku. Kalau tidak menggalau dia akan berbasah ria membayangkan bos barunya.
- heroine yang lebay dan gampang basah dalam segala kondisi, bahkan saat ditelpon pria asing dan perjumpaan pertama. Selain itu dia gampang diajak bermesraan dengan orang yang baru dikenal padahal dia naksir bos ybs.
- heroine yang suka menyalahkan masa lalu dan mantannya untuk semua karakter dan perilaku " menyebalkan" dia di masa kini.
- heroine yang ingin di latih, diikat, dicambuk dan ditunggangi bak kuda poni. Persamaan luka batin JB dan kudanya Bane agak mengganggu juga. Fetish kuda ini super bikin ilfil.

I started reading this and couldn’t stop. It is a unique story, One that will definitely pull you in and make you think.
Maple Parsons is a quiet girl who came to town looking for a job.. She already did college and this is her way of trying new experiences. She comes from a small town and doesn’t want to stay in the small town life. Her experiences in that small town life are that she didn’t want to be tied down to a small town life so off to college she went and well there she met this man who had some wrong intensions. He was into BDSM but his leanings were dark and evil like. He was trying to “train” Maple to be what he liked so Maple escaped and ran from her problems and that is how she met rancher J.B. Deyton . Maple is looking for a job and when she calls and speaks to him, his voice over the phone talking about the job for stable girl, his voice was like velvet.
J.B. Deyton has secrets that he doesn’t want anyone poking into and he is in his way running from. When Maple meets J.B , there is immediate chemistry. There is this forbidden vibe whenever they are together and the more they are around each other, the more intense it gets. By the time book 1 ends, it ends on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait for book 2. I loved how J.B and Maple are for each other and I cannot wait to see JB’s reaction when he hears of Maple’s past.

I am new to Penny's books but not anymore!! I REALLY enjoyed reading this book. I was pulled right into the story and ended up reading half of it in one night because I didn't want to put it down!! It does end in a cliff-hanger and there are three books in total, but don't let that deter you, the book is totally worth being a little frustrated at the ending. I definitely recommend this book and I cannot wait to read book two. There are times it leaves you breathless and more than a little hot and bothered. It gets a bit "dark", but I really like that in a book!! I'm really glad I decided to try a new author (to me) and I look forward to reading more books by Penny!!

I am still reeling from reading this book! It will keep you on the edge of your seat through the entire book!
J.B. Deyton is the epitome of "save a horse, ride a cowboy"! He's sexy as hell, mysterious, built, wealthy, and smart. Something from his past though makes him have a wall built of stone around him. However, he can only hold on to so much control.....
Maple is in need of job, having left college due to a detrimental experience, she is back home at her parents, hiding. The job is for a stable girl with room and board free. There is something about J.B.'s voice on the phone that makes Maple quiver making her second guess if she should take the job but home doesn't feel like home anymore. Upon meeting J.B., Maple is scared, meek, but most of all turned on. There is no denying the sexual tension between these two and those desires run very deep. There is also the mystery of J.B.'s off limits stable, which for Maple is like putting a kid in a candy store and telling them they can't have anything. Her desires and the mystery surrounding her are driving her so wild that she breaks and when she does, J.B. is there and his control slips. It's scorching hot and oh so delicious, but the aftermath crushes Maple. Having lost all hope, Maple decides to find out what J.B. is hiding and the results are mind-blowing!
This is a definite must read! The story is very creative and you will not see what coming next. I can't wait to see what happens!!!

Be prepared to be left hanging, but the trip there is awesome! This is the beginning of a new series from Penny Lam, and it holds the promise of being one of her best yet. A bit on the dark side, and definitely laced with BDSM, leaning on the sadistic edge, the plot has us following Maple, a small town rancher's daughter who yearns for more, more than "the boy next door", more than a loveless marriage, and definitely more from sex than the normal vanilla offered by the locals. While she thought she was escaping when she scooted off to school, she found herself tied to a very dark man instead, one who had no qualms of using and abusing her, even going so far as "training" her to abide by his sadistic notions, without any safety net in place. Now, she's run away once again, but with no goals or escape left. Local rancher J.B. Deyton, has a few dark secrets of his own, and he desperately wants to keep it that way.
Will they be able to heal each other? Will they ever be able to find any value in themselves, let alone each other? So many questions needing answers, I can hardly wait for the next episode. A wonderfully written story that you won't want to miss. Absolutely loved this!

The choices we make. The consequences we run from and the hidden truth below the surface. We all have secrets some a darker than others. Can you live with regrets that haunt you? sometimes a new life is what was on the menu but desires can ruin it for all involved when they get in the way of the mind. Will sparks fly and burn or can they mend?
I can not wait to see where this story ends up. Stabled was just the beginning of a woman's fight and a man's resistance, or visa versa.

The main character "Maple" ok first the name was extremely hard to get over, but she was an attention whore for lack of better words always claiming to deserve what happens to her like she is some victim yet craves it. Far fetch of a story line, JB some Master ranch owner, to train "ponies" come on! The author didn't go deep into what happen with his wife, any softer side there? Didn't let Maple explore friending "Bane" the monster of a horse, had she explored that maybe a softer side would've come out of the JB? I won't be reading book 2, sorry but this was to all over the place for me

This is what I would call a dark romance. There is major elements of BDSM but not the safe and consensual kind. The female lead is majorly f***ed up by the man who was supposed to be her ‘dom’ but was really an abusive and sadistic sociopath.
It ends with a cliff hanger but I’ll be honest and say that I will not be trying to get the rest of this serialized story, which is one of the reasons why I haven’t given my usual rant about serialized stories or those with cliff hangers.

I very rarely leave a review on a book that I dnf, but every now and then when I am able to give a specific reason I will. I am at 60% with this one and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has happened. The H and h have only had a couple interactions. We have a little bit of back story for the h but I don't really care about her enough to care about her past. Its just weird. I haven't even gotten to the dark and/or kinky stuff yet. This one was just not for me. Bummer since it had a lot of really good reviews. I thought I would really like it.

This is so NOT my thing that I decided to read it. Only to discover that it’s really NOT my thing and I shouldn’t read outside my comfort zone. It’s hard to rate tbh. A stable and a bunch of women who do this stuff.... it’s beyond strange to me. I’ve just can’t relate. The writing, story and pace were good, so three stars; from a girl who doesn’t really like horses.

author has done an excellent job, bring the characters alive, to the point you almost feel part of the story. Maple had not always been meek. She once had the confidence to leave home and explore her inner workings and desires, but her two years with Tony, commanding her so completely, has ruined her and there is no alternative but to return home to her family; her past not only terrifies her, it haunts her She can’t hide from the world forever, but she could bury her secrets and pain deeper and move on. Accepted as a stable hand, Maple knew that J.B. could and would destroy what was left of her. Maple has an affinity with the horses, particularly Bonnie, but Bane is being treated cruelly and she tries to bring him comfort when she can, to her own detriment. J.B.’s house contains some unusual paintings, but with her knowledge of art, they capture and draw her in; although she does wonders what they say to J.B. or about him, particularly when he says they are a celebration. But there are more surprises in store for everyone when J.B.’s friend Reece arrives. He incites Maple to take a look in the forbidden stable. It seems everyone at the ranch has secrets they do not want disclosed; but will these eventually bring them together or drive them apart? This is the first part of a trilogy that is very engaging, but does end on a cliff-hanger. It will be interesting to see how the story develops in the next instalment, and I cannot wait to read it. This is a very exciting book which has lots of twists and turns and I would have no hesitation in recommending it. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love a dark romance and Penny Lam delivered in Stabled. I have a feeling she's only just begun and I'm ooohh so excited. Penny is a new author for me and I'm looking forward to a long readers friendship.

She's already done the college thing and had some interesting experiences, some good, some bad, some she's still confused about but knows life on her parents ranch is not for her. When she takes the job at the ranch, she thinks all will be perfect, time will tell.
Life at the ranch takes some interesting twists and turns, with her sexy new boss, J.B. Deyton, and his many other ventures. He is quiet, but commanding and domineering and makes Maple remember things she's tried to forget and suppress. She wants and needs this job and she's trying so hard. When tragedy strikes and she's hurt, things get rocky and moods shift.
This is a short, well-written, sexy, story with great characters and a cliffhanger ending but with the way this story is presented, and the release date of books two and three already set, I'm perfectly content in waiting. I am definitely looking forward to more and my calendar is marked.

I received this for an honest review. I would say that this book is a BDSM Cowboy Lite Dark Romance book. Loved it and can not wait for book 2 in this series.
Each person in this book has secrets including Maple. Maple had dark desires, the desires that she was ashamed of. Unfortunately Maple did not know that she should not be ashamed of her desires. She had been damaged, used, and abused by her last boyfriend. He had scared her in a way that she almost did not recover from.
Maple was happy to find out that she was going to get to work with houses again. She has such a love a passion for horse. They seem to understand her and she finds comfort that a horse does not judge.

***I was given this ARC for an honest review*** This is a VERY dark BDSM. The poor little girl from a ranch goes away to college and runs into a person who is a malicious Dom and takes advantage of her cravings for rough lovemaking. She was a virgin until he got his hands on her and totally destroyed her self worth and spirit. She finally gets the full extent of his brutality and disgust for her and goes back home. (I won't give spoiler as to how this happens). Once home she has to find a job. She loves her parents and they love her, but this is a dysfunctional family that doesn't know how to show love. She applies for a job at a large ranch owned by a very rich man. When he hears her voice over the phone he tells her to come to an interview and bring what should would need to stay if she gets the job. Strange, huh? She goes, get the job and she is in charge of stabling and mucking the the horses. This is some read, check it out.

By the end of the first chapter I was hooked. I couldn't put this book down. The background of the female lead is VERY dark and we get glimpses of it throughout as she tries to find her way through the pain. The whinnieness level of the character was tolerable and believable for her background. (One of my major pet peeves that will get me to put a book down faster than anything else.) The inner angst and turmoil she feels doesn't bring the story to a grinding halt.
Great start to the series. An unfortunate cliffhanger, but luckily the other 2 books are out so I was able to binge the entire story.
Would I read it again? Yes
Would I recommend it to a friend? Sure
Would I recommend it to my mom? Not on your life
Would I ask my Hubby to read it? No, but he saw it in my queue and we had an interesting discussion about it.

Would I ask my Hubby to read it? No, but he saw it in my queue and we had an interesting discussion about it.

Maple Parsons had a dark secret and she knew she could not stay at her parents place with out working so she called about a job working with horses. What she didn't know was the owner of the Deyton Ranch was into more that meets the eye. J.B. Deyton had a dark side to him and when Maple came into his life he almost knew she would be trouble. What he did not know was just how much it would cost him.
This is an erotic story for the mature reader. This is not really my type of story to read if you like dark erotic romance stories then this is for you.

Wow what a read! I like Maple, she has a lot going on inside of her and she can be so shy and almost awkward at first. She lived a dark life for a couple years that opened her up to a lot of things. Things she had felt inside of her for a long time and new things. It has moments of extreme darkness that can shake you a bit but it is a part of who Maple is. Moving to this ranch to help with the horses is about to open her up to an entirely new world. J.B. is a strong man that is determined to have things his way and I like how he is drawn to Maple. I'm very excited to see where this world will take us!!

I was given a copy for an honest review. Maple is broken and in need of guidance and rescue,an din dire need of a job to get out of the family ranch, when she sees a wanted ad for stable hand at JB's ranch. She soon realizes that he is intense,brooding, dark and has a lot of secrets. But she has secrets too, the reader gets introduced to her painful secrets and JB's too. You are kept on the edge of your chair with the story line and Penny Lam gives a glimpse into the darkness within everybody. What's next?

didn't fully realize that it would end with a
cliffhanger. When I got to the end it left me aching
for more! I'm not sure I fully understand what is
going on but I definitely want to read the next book
to learn more. It's a little dark and outside of my
comfort zone but I can't help but be intrigued. I
guess my curiosity rivals Maple's! Hopefully my
curiosity won't lead to anything near to what
Maple's does. Can't wait to find out!!

This story was different than my normal reads but turned out to be a page turner. Maple has had a weird family life that has are looking for somewhere to belong and she finds it on J.B.’s ranch. She also finds some other things that will make your mind wonder. Sexy men, good food and fun livestock adventures are just some of her new day to day activities but there's always something forbidden in places with money. Maple finds one and gets in deep. Can't wait to see what she does next

This is not your normal boy meets girl and fall in love and live happily ever after. Stabled is a dark romance with elements of BDSM, abuse, secrets, and lots and lots of questions. It is gritty, raw, intriguing,emotional, captivating, and edgy. Stabled will suck you in and keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Amazing start to a new series. After leaving college Maple returns back home and finds a Deyton Ranch, working with horses that includes room and board. She meet J.B. Deyton and he brings out her dark desires. These two both have secrets and need each other to heal, can they? Looking forward to more, this read is fast paced and very steamy. Great read, I couldn’t put it down!

I got this in exchange for an honest review, I liked it a lot it was a fun book to read I am not used to this type of BDSM but I loved it and it made me think of certain things and realise that life is full of surprises the plot story and flow of events were great I recommend this author to everyone

I have had this book (series) in my e-reader library for a very long time and finally 'cracked the spine' I really enjoyed reading about Maple - quiet, pretty, smart and eager and the wealthy cowboy J.B. Deyton. And they both have dark secrets.
