A must-read for any serious student of urbanism. Haussmann, Paris' rebuilder, transformed the French capital in just 17 years without raising taxes, and overcoming tsunamis of opposition. How did he do it? His memoirs are a testament to the brilliance, creativity and tenacity of a man the likes of whom the world seldom sees.
