In "The Blessed Eucharist," Father Michael Mueller describes how Christ\'s love for us moved Him to create this most beautiful Sacrament. He explains why Our Lord veils Himself in the appearance of bread - a garment so humble He is little known, little loved even neglected and insulted. Fr. Mueller helps the reader discover what a treasure the Sacrament is, sharing countless compelling accounts of miracles involving the Eucharist, quotations from Scripture and the Saints reflecting the virtues that can be obtained from Communion worthily received and the consequences of an unworthy reception of Our Lord. He instructs the reader on how to best prepare for receiving the Sacrament, and how to properly offer thanksgiving afterwards. "The Blessed Eucharist" awakens a deeper awareness of the incredible gift that God has given us in His Presence in the Eucharist, allowing us to embrace all the wondrous fruits this Sacrament has to offer.
Father Michael Mueller, C.SS.R., was born in 1825 in Germany. He later joined the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, and was one of eleven clerics sent to the United States by the American Redemptorist Provincial. Upon completion of his theology studies in Maryland, he was ordained in 1853 by John Nepomucene Neumann. He served the Redemptorist communities in the U.S. as Consulter to the Provincial, as well as Superior and Novice Master. Father Mueller is the author of The Blessed Eucharist, Prayer: The Key to Salvation, Triumph of the Blessed Sacrament, The Prodigal Son, and God the Teacher of Mankind. He died in 1899.
Wow. I’m just in awe of this book, and in awe of Jesus. No words in my review could give this book justice, especially because my words cannot articulate how beautiful Jesus’ presence in the Blessed Sacrament is!!! I would recommend this to anyone and as I’ve mentioned before, if you’re Catholic it is absolutely a MUST-READ!!!! Whether you have a strong conviction of the True Presence or not, please hit me up I would love to lend you my copy this book. I will be reading this again and again- and highlighting some of the best parts. Also- it took me a minute to get through the whole book but it really does not take that long to read through the chapters!
Absoloutly beautiful, fantastic, wonderful book. I began reading little tidbits here and there during adoration. IT IS BEAUTIFUL. Easy to read as well! I recommend it to everyone to read!
I planned to read one chapter a week of "The Blessed Eucharist" at a holy hour. Some chapters took longer than that since there was so much in this relatively short book to learn about and reflect on.
The most instructive chapters - to me - were on Preparation for Communion, Thanksgiving After Communion, and The Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
This book contains many saint's accounts and miracles. Increases one's knowledge and love for Jesus in the Eucharist. Fast-paced while at the same time invoking contemplation. Inspiring!
Absolutely the best book on the Most Blessed Eucharist I've ever read! Written in a very detailed manner, but the author doesn't mire the reader in technical details.
My mom got me this book for Christmas and I highly enjoyed it! Father's writing is very simple and easy to understand, yet urges one to the greatest devotion. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to increasing their devotion at the reception of Holy Communion. Father is down-to-earth and yet hard-hitting when it comes to what matters most, especially when it comes to preparation for and thanksgiving after receiving the Eucharist. His beautiful words can bring one to cry, rejoice, fell remorse, etc.
As an avid fiction reader, I gave it up for 10 years to focus on spiritual reading. And of the hundreds of books I read in that realm over a decade, this book falls squarely in the Top 10 if not the Top 5. It is so good you could reread it many times. You could bring it with you to Holy Hour and pop onto any chapter and find a new insight. It has been many years since I have read this book and still I dwell on many of the stories and truth contained within. The book left a permanent mark on my soul. A must read and must own in print.
The first 150 pages or so of this book were phenomenal: enlightening, convicting and inspiring. The second half, where the author details specific examples of miracles, were still edifying and important, but far less readable in writing style. Overall, a must read for all Catholics and those wanting to better understand Catholic teaching on the Eucharist.
Enlightening and inspiring. Every Catholic should read it to fully realize this great treasure that God has left for us. One cannot but love God more after reading it.
----------------------------------------- Excellent! St. Alphonsus' style with a pinch of Fr. O'Sullivan, OP. Great chapters on topics such as: - Lack of love in Communion - The value of thanksgiving - The incredible effects of grace on us - Answers to excuses for not receiving - The unfathomable crime of unworthy Communion - Spiritual Communion - Eucharistic miracles - The Mass Full of stories and examples.
