A Toast to the Good Times

Rate this book
It’s the eve before Christmas Eve, and all that twenty-three-year-old Landry has on the agenda for the holiday is moping in the bar that he left everything behind to open. And he’s got plenty to mope about. He found his girlfriend treating herself to a little holiday delight with his best friend; He hasn’t seen his family in over a year- since he alienated them all and ended up spending a night in jail; And he may have just ruined the perfect, uncomplicated thing he had going with his platonically hot roommate, Mila. Drinks all around! But when he gets a call from his sister, Paisley, begging him to make it home for a huge announcement, he tosses aside his better judgment, (or, what’s left of it after that last round of drinks) and hops on the first train back home to Jersey. But home for the holidays isn’t all mugs of cocoa and fireside chats with his family. Landry left the people he loves the most high and dry when he fled to Boston and spent all of his inheritance…the inheritance money that he was supposed to use to help save his family’s floundering bar. His dad will hardly look at him, his ex is maybe stalking him, his sister has dropped a bombshell on the family, and a flame from the past catches his eye. When Landry’s present and near past collide, it only further complicates things. Landry thought he was leaving all of his problems behind when he left his family in New Jersey. But he comes home to find out that problems, like family, never go away. And sometimes facing the past with the help of someone who’s fearless about the future is the only way to move on. Cheers?

"To remembering the moments worth never forgetting."

I really enjoyed this book! I loved Landry! This book was all from his pov, which made it that much better!

Landry has been living in Boston for the last year with his roommate Mila. He has been estranged from his family from New Jersey and working at his bar. The day before Christmas Eve, he and Mila decide to celebrate together. One thing leads to another and he realizes she has feelings for him. Before he can really figure out what he wants to do, his sister Paisley calls and says she really needs him home. Even though he hasn't seen his family in nearly a year, he goes for his sister. I love how he grows and he and his family start to reconnect(especially his dad). About half way through the book (this is wear it gets really good!) Mila shows up at his dad's bar. She spends Christmas Eve with his family. He realizes what he wants to do with their relationship, but is it too late?

This book was the perfect mix of sweet, funny, and steamy! It was about love, family, friendship, and new beginnings. Landry was really great. He made me laugh and had some major swoon moments . Mila was wonderful too! So relatable... She reminded me of myself in a lot of ways, especially the fact that she was a total nerd! Loved it! A really great, feel good book!

Some of the best nerdy/geeky lines that made the book for me:

You had me at Firefly/Serenity!!!
"Will you talk nerdy to me if I sleep on the futon with you?"
"All night long. It'll be like that episode where Mal tricks Simon into thinking Kaylee's dead and Simon goes nuts on him. But, you know, not that morbid. Was that too morbid?"

And Mr. Darcy...
"I gotta ask you something, who the hell is Mr. Darcy?"
"Darcy is a guy from a book. A super sexy guy from a super famous book."
"Is there a movie about this book?"
"A few. Movies... about Mr. Darcy. Yeah, there are."
"We'll have to watch them. You know. Some morning after we have marathon sex and need a day to recharge."

And of course, Star Wars!
"I know you haven't been thinking of me as a sexual object for long, but let's just say you've been the Han Solo to my Leia on more than one lonely evening by myself."

Just what I expected here again. A wonderful, can't put it down story of loss, love, redemption and the like told with style. Richly drawn characters with depth, people with both great strengths, and deep flaws like most real people. I had been planning on not reading this until X-mas eve due to its story-line but it kept shouting, "READ ME!" from my Kindle. Steph and Liz have written a masterpiece feel good holiday read. I'd love to see this made into a movie actually.

Rating: Top Shelf:  Slap a bow on it; this is your holiday book!

It's like Campbell and Reinhardt tapped into my head and wrote down everything that I would find humorous, thoughtful, and romantic.  The character names are original.  The conflicts are realistic and understandable, and the HEA is a Christmas miracle.  This book made me feel all warm and happy... or maybe that was the recommended Hot Toddy.
“So, what are we drinking to?” She looked up from under her thick, dark bangs.
“To all the people I want to forget.”
Pathetic? Possibly.
Honest? Absofuckinglutely.
Reinhardt, Liz; Campbell, Steph (2012-11-19). A Toast to the Good Times (Kindle Locations 423-425). . Kindle Edition.

Landry (love the name) is a first time bar owner with bartending in his blood.  I love the way he romanticizes about his bar and the pride he has doing what he loves.   His angst with his family can be relatable (have you ever felt like you let your family down?) and his love life is "typical" male POV.  But he is soooo damn funny.  Even when he is down and out, you can still laugh with him.
It’s her eyes. I’ve never really noticed the color before. Pure green . Like looking through a wine bottle into the sun.
Okay, not the most romantic observation, but I’m a damn bartender.
Reinhardt, Liz; Campbell, Steph (2012-11-19). A Toast to the Good Times (Kindle Locations 285-286). . Kindle Edition.

Mila is just a blip in the beginning and you don't want Landry to make a mistake, but you really don't know this girl yet. She's the roommate who's also a great friend, nothing more. Landry has to air out all his issues before he can see what will make him happy.  Mila is real and won't let her affection for Landry cloud her judgment.  She knows his past and doesn't hold out hope for his love in return.  But the girl has guts and she's going to go for it, damn the consequences.
All of the words we could say hang in the air. The sharp ones that cut like shards of broken beer bottles. The ones that are sticky and polluted as old fly paper. And the meaner , nastier , snaring ones that drag in all our regrets and leave them in a tangled, diseased net we can’t break out of. But neither one of us say any of them.
Reinhardt, Liz; Campbell, Steph (2012-11-19). A Toast to the Good Times (Kindle Locations 787-791). . Kindle Edition.

Landry's family is passionate; about each other, work, and friends. They've built a life in a town that Landry wants to leave behind. His parents come off as demanding and unaffected by Landry's need to get out of their town and start his own life. Not until you learn his parent's secret, do you understand the motivation and wisdom behind their actions. And like that, everything makes more sense.
Her laugh is a sound that I want to record just to play back when I feel like shit and need a reason to smile.
Reinhardt, Liz; Campbell, Steph (2012-11-19). A Toast to the Good Times (Kindle Locations 1789-1790). . Kindle Edition.

Here's another great part of the book, the guy gets the girl about half way through. I love these types of books. You get a peek at their relationship after they've proclaimed their interest for each other. Thus, you get to see Landry mature some more as he works at his first, true relationship.
...She’s like that last puzzle piece that clicks into place and makes Christmas burst to life for me, finally.
Reinhardt, Liz; Campbell, Steph (2012-11-19). A Toast to the Good Times (Kindle Locations 1571-1572). . Kindle Edition.

Oh, and here's another bonus, it's centered around the Christmas holiday. You can feel the chill in the air, smell the food cooking in a small kitchen, and hear the glasses clink as your loved ones around you toast to the good times. I LOVE THIS BOOK. I know you will too. Happy Holidays!

More toast-able QUOTES:
“It’s sad, I mean,” I blunder. “About the coma, because I know Mila likes her aunt a lot and all and—”
“Dude!” Henry breaks in. “Just stop digging. You’re gonna break that shovel.”
Reinhardt, Liz; Campbell, Steph (2012-11-19). A Toast to the Good Times (Kindle Locations 1601-1603). . Kindle Edition.

“You like that girl.” It’s not a question the way my dad says it. “Here’s my advice , son. Stop worrying about other guys who are better and fuckups from your past. Because there are better guys and you have been a huge fuckup. But you deserve that girl more than anyone else, because you understand a true vintage. You know how rare it is, among all there is to choose from, to find something so delicate and sweet, but also fulfilling and robust. She’s the champagne son, and you’ll be able to celebrate with her for the rest of your life . You need that. You really do.”
Reinhardt, Liz; Campbell, Steph (2012-11-19). A Toast to the Good Times (Kindle Locations 2043-2047). . Kindle Edition.

“To remembering the moments worth never forgetting,” I say, raising my glass.

I was so excited when Steph offered to give me an ARC of this last week. I am SUCH a fan of her and Liz’s writing, so literally the second this showed up in my email, I downloaded and started reading. I wasn’t more than 5 pages in and could I would devour this. I was instantly reminded why I love their collaborative work and their style of writing.

I immediately fell in love with Landry and Mila – separately and together. I was cheering for them from the first scene in Landry’s bar. I knew there was something there and I couldn’t wait to see where it would go. Talk about an angsty holiday – which really, whose aren’t. This felt so realistic to me. What is a family get together without loads of guilt and passive aggressive behavior…wait, maybe that’s just mine? Landry and Mila are roommates, and have been for a year; ever since the night Landry left his family after a huge falling out. Their circumstances and lives collided and they’ve been roomies and best friends ever since. There’s not a romantic link there…or is there?

I appreciated Landry’s transformation throughout the story. I loved the internal dialogue he had with himself and the realizations he was coming to. Some of them really cracked me up, as he slowly realized what a douche he had been, and rather shallow and pathetic. He finds out through this sort of self-discovery, though, that his nerdy roommate has never expected anything out of him that he wasn’t always. She loved him for who he was, and really, their little holiday romp was a last ditch effort for her to prove to herself that he was in fact, a tool, and not worth her time or heart.

I loved Mila. She made no apologies for the nerdy girl she was, and she truly cared for Landry at a time when no one else did. She genuinely wanted him to feel better about himself, but also make amends with his family. I think she had great heart. I would’ve loved to have been inside her head during their “encounters.”

Together, Landry and Mila had great chemistry. This doesn’t surprise me, because both Steph and Liz have an AMAZING way of writing these kind of relationships. I’ve never been disappointed with a romance in any of their books. They suck you in, and you’re sad to see the story end. I felt that way after Landry and Mila, but I do LOVE how it all wrapped up. It was the perfect Christmas miracle. ;) I give this book 4 stars and recommend to anyone who loves a good chase…as well as plenty of drama, both in the family and love connection sense. Steph and Liz have created another WONDERFUL story, that will totally leave you in the Christmas spirit, too, which is just such a bonus! This made me want to watch A Christmas Story and drink hot cocoa, and set up all my decorations! Make sure to check this out on Tuesday, November 20 (TOMORROW)! And if you haven’t read their other collaboration, you must! Lengths is another fav or mine, for sure! Oh, and of course, there’s a whole SLEW of other books both authors have that I’ve loved, so make sure to check those out, too! :)

4 Glasses of Mila's Ho-Ho-Ho Punch!

This story is told from the male character's point of view and takes place during the Christmas season. Who doesn't love a Christmas story?

Landry Murphy is a lady’s man and kinda of a jerk. He basically likes any girl who is in front of him at that moment. He is pretty miserable about his best friend and his girlfriend's betrayal.

Landry is CLUELESS about a lot of things, from his falling out with his family over his grandfather's inheritance to his irresistibly sweet roommate, Mila's feelings for him.

When Landry runs into his ex-girlfriend on a train heading back home, he gets some much needed advice:

"You...wow, you're hot. You really are. Please find a girl who doesn't care how hot you are Landry. A girl who doesn't notice how cool and suave and tortured you are, okay? Find a girl who can laugh with you. Laugh at you. Hard. That's the kind of girl you need."

Will Landry finally get his head out of his a$$ and open his eyes? I sure hope so, it's Christmas after all!

Once again Liz and Steph knocked my socks off! The writing of this book was flawless and you'd never know it was written by two different people. I love Christmas stories to begin with and this didn't disappoint! Landry is determined and stubborn as they come and Mila is smart, sassy and fiercely independent...I loved the friendship these two had that slowly developed into more once Landry pulled his head out of his rear! The supporting characters were great as well and it was nice to see them and Landry work thru their issues and mend their rift. And I can't forget...Landry was hot and swoony and the heat and sparks between he and Mila will definitely light your Yule log! This Jersey girl loved this book and loved the mention of our diner staple; disco fries!!!!!

This book truly has potential. It's almost there. I was so close to liking it that much. Landry is such a refreshing narrator. I've always had a soft spot for male POVs. Mila is a relatable character.
It's just the blurb failed to hit the point of what I thought it was actually gearing at. The blurb has got me thinking that this book will focus more on Landry's self-discovery and reuniting with his family. Well, we only got half of that. So I am one part quite disappointed and also one part satisfied because Landry is such an amazing and funny character.

You know how you hear all of those cliché marketing buzzwords like “a hidden gem” or “surprise find” or something along those lines? Every single one of them could apply to this book. I had never heard of this title before it made its way to my inbox, but boy am I glad it did.

"But I think it’s been fairly well established that I’m an unbelievable wanker in every way."

A Toast To the Good Times is the story of Landry Murphy, (self-proclaimed) resident fuck up. Landry is the oldest of three kids of a stereotypical Irish family from New Jersey. He had made his way to Boston after a brutal falling out with his father over the survival of the family business, a local watering hole. Instead of taking over for his father, Landry buys his own bar and makes an attempt to prove he can make it on his own. Can Landry get his act together and finally turn his life around? Fixing the relationship with his dad and family and find one woman who can possibly tame him?

"Living with Mila was like having a sister-like person around. Only less annoying. Maybe like a pretty cool cousin. Or, I guess, I could call her a best friend."

Mila is the nerdy librarian roommate of Landry. She is unapologetic in her quirkiness and nerddom, which makes her a loveable character. She has an Emily Dickinson tattoo and wears Jane Austen granny panties with an ode to Mr. Darcy…dear lord, can you get any more loveable? Unfortunately she believes her nerdiness puts her out of Landry’s league. Can she convince Landry that she’s not the sweet innocent little thing he thinks she is and to take a chance on her as more than just a friend?

"Here’s my advice, son. Stop worrying about the other guys who are better and fuckups from your past. Because there are better guys and you have been a huge fuckup. But you deserve that girl more than anyone else, because you understand a true vintage. You know how rare it is, among all there is to choose from, to find something so delicate and sweet, but also fulfilling and robust. She’s the champagne son, and you’ll be able to celebrate with her for the rest of your life. You need that. You really do."

A Toast to the Good Times is a very fast, easy, enjoyable read. The banter between the characters, the family members especially, is well written and downright hilarious at times. The authors have done an excellent job in creating characters with depth. I loved Landry and Mila as a couple and loved the family dynamic. This book takes place around the holidays so it is an exceptionally good choice for this time of year, especially since the resolution of the conflict is heartwarming. (I know, it sounds so cliché, but really, who doesn’t love to see a family come together, especially around the holidays?). The relationship between Landry and his father is just as important as his relationship with Mila.

Don’t get me wrong; yes, there is plenty of hearts and flowers, but boy is there some heat involved too! Landry is total swoonworthy (gah! His name is Landry Murphy, that sucked me in right there….Irish bad boy? Yes, please!). He is the libation-swilling rake of a man (and he’s a bartender, he knows his way around a drink or two) with a heart of gold. He’ll also sweet-talk those panties right off of ya!

A Toast To the Good Times is five incredible stars. Reading a whole book from a male POV is refreshing to say the least, especially with a character as raw and honest as Landry. It really felt like a lot of the angst and pretense you get with your typical YA romance was missing and it just felt a lot more honest. I can’t wait to see what this pair of authors comes up with next!

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

A call from his sister sends Landry Murphy home for the Christmas holidays to face his family who has not seen or spoken to in a year due to disagreement about what he wanted to do with the inheritance money left to him from his grandfather. Returning home is a turning point for Landry has the chance to own up to his mistakes, and to make amends with his family especially with his father.

I initially wasn’t too sure about Landry because as at he came across as a jerk, was cocky, a player, and he made some silly choices, however, by the end of the story I did like him. I loved Mila Eby is Landry’s roommate she was a really sweet sassy down to earth sort of girl, who was always true to herself.

Mila has always had feelings for Landry, but somehow he is clueless to this. Landry has never really seen her as anything more that a good friend, and his cute nerdy roommate until one night when everything changes. I loved the friendship that Landry and Mila have, and the relationship that developed between the two it was sweet, passionate, and sexy. Mila was definitely what Landry needed.

I like the storyline told from Landry’s POV. I must admit that after reading the synopsis I had a different impression in my head of how the story was going to go. So I can’t really say much about it without giving away spoilers, I will say was a fun easy read low on the angst about love, family, friendship, and forgiveness.

Overall I liked this book; I would have liked more about how Landry makes amend with his father, I feel this aspect of the storyline could have been developed more. But that being said I liked the writing style of both authors, and the flow of the story. Great secondary characters such as Landry’s family and Toni who help Landry see things more clearly, and an ending and epilogue that left me with a smiled on my face.

If you are looking for a sweet romantic book set around the Christmas holiday, and one that will make you laugh and smile then your should read this book.

“More because something about her felt instantly comfortable. Like I’d known her my whole life. Like I could tell her about my every fuck-up and she’d listen without judging” ~ Landry

“I don’t know how I lived with you for so long, and didn’t see what was right in front of my face, Mila. I’m a little dense, alright” ~ Landry.
"You...wow, you're hot. You really are. Please find a girl who doesn't care how hot you are Landry. A girl who doesn't notice how cool and suave and tortured you are, okay? Find a girl who can laugh with you. Laugh at you. Hard. That's the kind of girl you need."~ Toni

description

I have to admit that this is the first I’ve read from these writers and now I am asking myself “Why haven’t I’ve read their work sooner?” I thought this was an easy read that could be finished in just a couple of hours. Despite it being on the shorter side, I thought that it was just terrific.

Told in the hero’s point of view, I was immediately pulled into Landry’s world. I felt sorry for the guy having to spend Christmas without his family. He hasn’t seen them since he moved away from home and never has been in contact with them because of a falling out with his father. Out of the blue his sister calls him begging him to come home. Of course he could have made an excuse not to travel back home but maybe it was his subconscious telling him it was time to bury the hatchet. It was Christmas after all!

As he makes his way home he unexpectedly runs into an ex. For some odd reason this person reminded me of a character in a classic – A Christmas Carol. They bring us back in the past telling us their story when they were still together. While this certain someone wasn’t treated well in their younger years she doesn’t harbor any bad feelings. Instead, that experience seems to have mold her into a mature and sensible adult. She gives him this priceless gift of advice.

Most would just ignore these simple words but in Landry’s case it is exactly what he needed to hear. He takes her words to heart and brings them to the forefront when dealing with his current love interest, Mila. I thought that her character was outstanding. She is quirky and nerdy yet so sweet, charming and down to earth. I don’t know how are authors did it but they made me feel like she could be a best friend.

You would never think that these two were compatible enough but for some reason they worked. The complimented each other so well. I thought that the passion between the two was off the charts. While they were hot and steamy they were playful too which made these scenes feel very real.

For me that wasn’t the most important thing in this story… it was making peace with the past and reuniting a family. Family which in my opinion is the true meaning of Christmas.

If you are looking for a book of finding love when least expected, a story of acceptance and forgiveness that will put you in the holiday mood than this is the perfect one for you.

I pretty much love everything these ladies write together and on their own. I've read them all, multiple times. There is just something about their books that is comfortable and cozy. They usually add a little steam just to keep me on my toes. This book did not disappoint.

First of all, let me say that Landry is lovable. So lovable I honestly wish he was real. Not so I could steal him away but just so I could look at him all day and listen to him talk. I would become an alcoholic just to sit at the end of his bar. I would sacrifice myself for this. His story as he navigates through his conflict with his family, the decisions he's made throughout the last several years and his relationship with his best friend sucked me right in. I love the idea of returning to your hometown to face demons and to face your past and how that is necessary to move on in the direction you are meant to go....it's very "Beautiful Girls" like and I loved that movie! The idea that you go home and some things are the same, some are different and some are not even what you imagined. Throughout all of this, Landry starts to reflect and take stock and there is nothing more sexy than a hot bad boy who realizes he has more to offer to the world and that what he wanted was really right in front of him wrapped up in a package that he never thought he wanted. Honestly, I could read books like that forever but as usual Liz and Steph but their touches on it and make me LOVE HIM AND HIS STORY! I know I will return to this book in the future time and time again like my favorite fleece blanket to keep me warm.

Of course there are a few things I would have loved to see more of including more story on the conflict and resolution with dad. I felt information lacking there and maybe seeing how that relationship moved forward or what they both needed to do to overcome their perceptions of each other. We caught a glimpse, I could have used more. I would have like to see more meat on the whole "opportunistic dating" theory. I loved that theory and would have liked to know more and see more. Also, as always I love angst so it might have been nice to see more angsty type situations in the book. I think Landry should have had to work a bit HARDER to get what he wanted.....it came just a bit to easy for my taste but then again that is one hot, charming boy and that's probably how it really is in his world!

Ok so now what's next???

A Toast to the Good Times is a warm, heart-felt romance novel by Stephanie Campbell and Liz Reinhardt. Told from Landry's perspective, A Toast to the Good Times is about a boy who finds himself back home for the holidays after not speaking to his family for a year. This novel is about about realizing what's important in life: love, family, and forgiveness. It's about owning up to your past mistakes, not taking things for granted, and becoming a better person. This novel is perfect for readers who are looking for a little holiday cheer.

The main character Landry is a such a guy. He's gorgeous. Completely swoon-worthy, in fact. He can be a jerk. And he can be devilishly charming at times. He's a bit of a player. He sometimes takes things for granted. And he definitely doesn't always make the best choices. He isn't perfect. Landry thinks he has it all figured out, but after one trip back home, Landry discovers that life isn't always what it seems and that some things in life are more important than everything else.

Mila's just Mila. She's a little geeky. She's extremely down to earth. She gets along with everyone. She's not afraid to be herself. She's so damn likable.

Toni's also very likable. She has history with Landry, but there is something about her that's familiar and new to Landry all at the same time. She was very insightful. In my opinion, she played a pretty big part in helping Landry realize his mistakes and make a change.

I really enjoyed this romance novel. To be completely honest, my one and only critic about this novel is that it took me a long time to figure out which girl I was supposed to root for. I eventually just picked my favorite and rooted for her, but the synopsis had me second guessing my choice for a long time. I won't tell you who to root for. You have to read this novel to see what happens! I will tell you that I made the right choice! :)

I gave A Toast to the Good Times by Stephanie Campbell and Liz Reinhardt 3 STARS (3.5 STARS). I recommend this novel to "mature" young adults and adults who are looking for a light, sweet romance novel with a little holiday twist!

-XOXO

You know those books that you buy and have every intention to read them immediatley, then find yourself a year later still waiting to read said book. A Toast to the Good Times is one of those books. Steph and Liz are authors that I don't even have to think before buying, and unfortunately I just never got around to reading their book.....until now.

Landry, owns and runs a bar, estranged from family after they posted his bail after getting into a fist fight with his Dad. When I began reading how he hadn't seen them for a year, no more making popcorn strings for Xmas tree I was expecting him to say they had died, so when I got to the fist fight part I couldn't help but laugh. He lives with room-mate and friend Mila, who looks out for him and although she is slightly away with the fairies, from seeing the first interaction between them I knew they were there to balance each other out.

I instantly like Mila with her crazy fashion sense and quirky personality, yet Landry had to earn it in my eyes, and as he slowly realises the truth about himself I began to warm up to him. This is helped when he gets to see parts of his families past that he never knew about, and while he initially tried to blame everything all on his Dad, he soon realises he had the wrong end of the stick and goes about trying to make amends in his own way.

Once Landry came to the realisation of who he wanted I liked how he went out of his way to prove himself worthy, and I thought his gift for Mila was perfect. Of course after this my heart melted just a little bit and I made the decision that he isn't so bad after all.
This duo together made me smile, even if it was just as friends, and I liked seeing the banter between them as A Toast to the Good Times progresses. I loved watching the relationship between Landry and Mila grow from friendship to something more, and while it's not an easy journey, and there are definitely some bumps and hurdles along the way, seeing them in the final chapter was worth this rough start.

While it took me a year to actually pick up A Toast to the Good Times and read the book, it only took a few hours to actually read it, and now that it's finished I kinda wish I had read it before Christmas and not after it, A Toast to the Good Times has all the Christmas spirit you could ever need in a book.

3.5 stars!

This was a fun get-you-in-the-holiday-spirit read. I liked this book better than Lengths which was Steph and Liz's first co-written book. Landry is somewhat of a grinch - he had a fallout with his family about a year ago and never resolved anything. He actually left his home town in New Jersey and moved to Boston right after the fallout. The plan was to move there with his best friend and girlfriend but as luck would have it, he actually caught the two cheating on him. Things weren't going to way he wanted until he met Mila. The story unfolds with Landry getting a call from his sister to come home for the holidays and much to his chagrin, Landry gets roped into going. Everything progresses from there.

Honestly, I thought Landry was kind of a douche - that was probably the point but it was hard to empathize with him. Every situation he put himself in was his own doing and the worst part is that he knew it but did nothing to change. It drove me nuts!! I have no idea how Mila put up with him.

Now Mila, I loved! I loved the fact that she wasn't willing to change who she was just to snag the attention of the guy she wanted. Sure she had a mini makeover and that's when Landry finally noticed her (did I mention he was kind of a douche?) But she wasn't willing to be something she wasn't just to please Landry. Landry finally managed to get his head out of his ass and win Mila over. By the end of the story, I actually started to like him.

Likes
Mila - because seriously how could you not?
Henry - Landry's younger brother. He cracked me up - I love that he gave Landry shit and realized right away what a catch Mila was.
Christmas - Most everyone loves Christmas time and I love that it was the setting for this book

Dislikes
Landry - just at the beginning and maybe most of the middle as well. I feel like it goes against being a fan - not liking the main character - but he was just such a cocky asshole. He ended up coming around which totally made up for it in the end.

If you're looking for a light, fun read I'd definitely recommend this! There were some heavier issues in the book - family drama and whatnot - but it didn't take away from overall story and still managed to be a light read.

What can I say about this book? Hmmm....I'll start with: I loved Mila! She completely made this book for me. Second: I adore the writing style of both authors. Lastly: It was simply a lovely holiday read. It signifies everything that the holidays should represent; forgiveness, family, love, and hope.

I tend to get pretty swoony over the male characters in books. Shocking, right? And I DID like Landry in the end. However, I had a bit of trouble warming up to him at first. I think that was intentional though. Landry is a pretty self absorbed guy. He's made some mistakes with his family and doesn't always treat woman with respect. Not that he's a total jerk but he tends to be the love 'em and leave 'em type. I'll say that the turning point for me for liking him was when his sister called and asked him to come home. Despite his tension with his family, you could tell that he missed them and was making an effort to mend fences.

Mila. I loved this chick! She's a nerdy hottie and completely perfect for Landry. Mila is his roommate and she's had feelings for Landry for a while despite his jerkiness. After a disastrous attempt at hooking up with Landry, she decides she needs to let go and move on. So, she goes to see him on Christmas Eve at his parents. What happens with Landry there surprises her. She expects him to be his usual dismissive self, but Landry's had a few "ah ha" moments since he's been home. While she's a bit reluctant, she's still excited about the possibility of a relationship with him. I have to say, that Landry did end up melting my heart a bit.

I adored the relationship that Landry and Mila developed. It was hot and sweet. I also loved that Landry repaired his relationship with his family. I loved them. I think his brother and sister would both be interesting to read about. *hint*

So, bottom line is this: if you are looking for a great holiday story that has some spice, this is a great book for you. If you are a fan of Liz Reinhardt and Steph Campbell, you will be very happy with this collaboration. I love both of these authors style's and highly recommend any of their books.

I couldn't help but feel sorry for Landry because by gosh nothing seemed to be going right and he knew exactly what he was doing wrong each time. Just when I thought oh finally things are going to start swinging his way NOPE! It's really a story about seeing what is right in front of you. Seems Landry's life past and present all comes together in a matter a few days. At the end of those few days he sees clearly what he wants and tries with all he has to get it. You will have to read to see if it all works out for Landry. A few hot sex scenes nothing raunchy.
The ending was Fantastic and there was even a Epilogue ( I LOVE Epilogue's!!).

Quotes:

"Nothing but dust and cobwebs up there. If you want a kiss you don't have to use some lame made-up Christmas tradition. I'm easy like that."

"Jingle Fucking Bells."

"Her laugh is a sound that I want to record just to play back when I feel like shit and need a reason to smile."

"Though I think it's always a pretty bad idea. Tickling is all fun and games until someone pisses their pants."

A Toast To The Good Times was just the read I was looking for this holiday season. Why? Because it's a story with romance, a whole lot of family, and quite a few misunderstandings.

This book is a quick read and the story takes place over the course of a few days.

The characters are so interesting and endearing. Even though Landry acts like a f***-up most of the time, I couldn't help but love him. And Mila grabbed my attention from the very beginning, because how cool is it that she works at a library?

I cheered for Landry to fix things with Mila. I laughed at the holiday shenanigans going on with Landry's family. And I rooted for Landry to patch things up with his father.

If you're looking for a fun holiday read, pick up this book! It's a great holiday story that will surely put you in the mood for Christmas.

Good little holiday read...

Landry has run away from home and all the responsibilities tied to his family. All he wanted to was to be his own man in his own place, but the way he went about it caused a rift and he hasnt seen or spoke to any of his family in a year. His sister calls begging him to come home. It couldn't come at a better time, he's just royally screwed up with him platonic roommate (maybe not so platonic now) Mila.

His trip home is a turning point. He begins to understand the family he left behind and can't stop thinking about Mila. Mila shows up at his parents place. Landry has seriously under estimated Mila all this time. He's been a bit blind to many things about her, but the most important pieces he's always known and the rest is falling into place. All Landry can think of is how to make her his and not just for the night...forever.

I seriously don't understand how so many can like this book as much as they do..

The male character are a complete clueless and selfish ashole during the entire book..and when I finally believe that's he really has changed ...No just NO he should not even be thinking about that or the fact that even though he wanted Mila he couldn't stop him self staring at and admiring the ex girlfriends (another x..an ex he actually kissed and tried to get into bed ) shapely legs...what the hell. NO you don't get blind falling in love you can still see someone as pretty or even hot but never ever and ex...that is just wrong...

Two of my favourite authors, Steph Campbell and Liz Reinhardt have teamed up again to co-author another book. These two women make a fantastic writing team. The flow through the chapters is seamless. You would never know two individuals with their own distinct flair for stories co-wrote this.
A Toast to the Good Times is a great holiday read. With all the sexiness of a miserable Landry who wants uncomplicated and chic geek Mila who is all heart, we find out if there is anything for them to toast about this holiday season.
A Toast to the Good Times, will make you laugh and warm your heart. It's a fab story to curl up on the couch with your favorite drink and take a break from the daily grind.

When my fave authors release books, I will always put aside what I am currently reading to start on their books as I always know they are not "chancer" books and that I will love what I read....

When I bought this book last night, I immediately began reading it and once again was not disappointed. It was a great story and the characters were awesome. It was fun to see how they both matured through the story as they learnt great life lessons.

I also loved that it was set at Christmas time, as its now left me feeling all Chrismassy and romantic.

Great read by 2 of my all time fave authors!!!!

3. something stars.
I liked the book. And I even liked Landon, although he was a major jerk and incredibly self-centered at times. But I liked that he wasn't a typical perfect love interest and he had his flaws but tried to redeem himself. And even when he tried to make up for past mistakes, he still wasn't perfect and I liked that, cuz come on, this is the real world and those perfect male characters that we love don't exist. That being said, the book was short and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Not exactly sure what I'd been expecting, but I just thought there'd be something more. So there was just a little something missing in the book for me.

1.5 stars. I can't believe I finished this book. I understand that it's all about Landry having some earth shattering, mind blowing epiphanies about family, love, and life in general, but I didn't need to spend as much time reading about how much of a screw up he is. Honestly, I think 75% of this book dwells on his past screw ups all the way up to present day. I kept thinking to myself "why is he such an idiot?" over and over. The short part of the book where he seems to figure things out a little was not enough to balance out the idiot part.

This was a great holiday read! I really liked it. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because it took me a while to like Landry. I liked his love interest from the beginning and she was so adorable, but it took me a bit for him to grow on me. Once he did grow on me he ruined it then he came back and redeemed himself. I will definitely be reading this book every holiday season because I liked it!

Good book- Loved reading from Landry's Pov- what a super sweet and slightly broken man- I'd take him in a heartbeat. Go Mila, for snagging that man, she seen the good even when he didn't. Very sweet story about family, love, forgiveness and everything else that comes along with it. Landry just might be a new book hero in my eyes, for seeing the wrong in himself and trying to change it. Yummy- I'm all in and a definite fan!!!

There's something about Landry that I just really loved. I liked his honesty about who he is, how he acts and how he feels, even if he doesn't actually express it the way he should. He has made a lot of mistakes and continues to make mistakes, and because he isn't perfect, he is, and that's what I found so appealing about him. Landry and Mila make a great couple, balancing each other out and I really loved how the ending turned out. Really adorable ending.

I found Landry a very difficult character to like at first. He really is a bit of a selfish bastard. Luckily he learns a few home-truths this Christmas and totally redeems himself. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and particularly like Mila and all of her quirks. I especially admired her patience.

Ok so this man-whore turns a leaf and is now in a committed relationship. I get it and I really can understand how women really do want this to happen. They meet a guys and see them from a far become friends and hope for something more. It doesn't always work out and this story represents the some that do work out.
